Why I Missed Last Night’s APWBWGTTD Meetup

For those who don’t know, APWBWGTTD is also known as AtlBloggers.

I Am still A Ph0t0 N00b
I was so excited as I clamped on my new lens. I was getting ready to take a picture to submit to the current Atlanta Flickr Scavenger Hunt. And then I hit some hurdles…

The first problem I encountered was that there was somebody working on the building that I was going to shoot. I should mention that I have never seen anyone near this building at 7am on my daily commute. Then to make matters worse, a truck pulled up to make a delivery (another thing I’ve not seen there) effectively blocking the building.

The second problem I encountered was user error with my new lens. I might have RTFM if I had actually received the FM with my purchase (I bought it used and no manual was supplied). When I turned the camera on all I saw was a flashing FEE in my viewfinder. Thankfully Al Gore’s Internets and Google helped my diagnose the error.

Time Is Not On My Side
T-Minus one month until birthday forty-one (July 22nd for those of you keeping score at home). I know that most of you have had this circled on your calendar for some time, but I feel the need to let the newbies know.

Actually, more importantly I now have fewer than three months before the back-to-back weekends where I have to attend weddings. I refuse, I said refuse, to buy yet another new suit for these (I’d rather spend that money on a new toy) and would love to drop ten to fifteen pounds before September. Unfortunately this also means fewer nights where beer beats exercise four to nil (oooh, look at me pretend that I am all up in the World Cup World).

Not Hot Enough For You? Cut Down More Trees
What a shock it was for me to drive through the Virginia-Highlands last night and see that almost all of the trees along Highland near George’s were cut down. How sad.

While I understand that these trees were evil Bradford Pears and it was a miracle that they had lasted this long without snapping, but did we have to cut them down when the thermometer is hitting the mid-nineties?

What The World Needs Now
Is a new Frank Sinatra so that I can get you in bed….

After eating a meal and drinking a couple of beers with my friends at George’s I popped over to the Variety Playhouse to see Cracker. Surprisingly, I think that this was the first time that I’ve seen the seminal indie rock band.

They boys did not disappoint as they scattered their hits in amongst new songs. I thought it amusing as well as David Lowry had to put on reading glasses in order to cue up his Powerbook. ROCK ON!!!

Rock On

I like this picture because this girl was doing the arm-in-the-air-finger-pointing dance all night long. Somehow I was lucky enough to catch her giving the universal hand gesture for “Rock On” in this picture.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – meh
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Dresden Dolls — “Sing”
Website Of The Day – Can’t get enough of the Google Maps mashups? Then head over to Google Maps Mania and see what cool, new things are brewing.

If you ever want a quick glance of the sites I’ve picked for my Websites Of The Day, you can check them out on del.icio.us, my user name is InsideThePerimeter (go figure), and they are all tagged as “blogged.”

Exercise (b)Log – nothing

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Saw you were interested in the MacBook. I’ve been trying to decide between that and the Pro (to run Aperture). Perhaps you’re aware of some of the reports surfacing recently about the discoloration on the Macbooks. If not go here:

    http://ibloggedthis.com/2006/06/12/apple-macbook-discoloration-issues/

Probably a reason to go black, or carry a white rubber eraser. Based on the cost roll-up the Pro winds up being a grand more than a maxed out “iMacbook”. But the Pro luckily doesn’t have the integrated video card, so that to me would be the biggest reason to go Pro versus “i”.

It’s tough though. If they had a 12″ Pro, I’d probably have pulled the trigger already.

Also, you might want to check out http://www.blurb.com . I’m messing with their beta software right now(free for both mac and pc) and it’s pretty impressive(and the publishing costs are amazing). I’m trying to put together a short photo book as a test to see what the print quality is like. If you’re interested I can let you know what I find out.

Actually, I’m considering a 20″ iMac (desktop). Sounds silly, but ’tis true since I already have my G4 iBook.

I missed the AtlBloggers thing, too. My dumbass went out like a rockstar on Tuesday and couldn’t function long enough on Wednesday to walk half a block to Manuel’s.
