Hey, What Happened?

I found out that another local blogger is using the same theme as I was. How embarassing! It’s like showing up to a party and seeing someone wearing the same clothes. Thus, a change was necessary.

Depending on when you read this site (assuming you are not using an aggregator) this might be the final theme for a while. :)

This is a test to see how an unaltered picture from Flickr looks in this new theme.

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others

A Fairly Lame Friday Post (sorry)

Another Late Night At The EARL
As expected it was another late night at The Earl last night. Once again the lineup consisted of three bands The Beggars’ Guild, some band whose name I never caught but whose CD I did purchase before leaving, and The Manchester Orchestra.

Most people would say that three is better than two nine times out of ten. I am here to argue the counter-point. I checked the clock when The Manchester Orchestra finally made it to the stage and it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 12:30am. I once again checked the clock when they had completed their set and it was 1:00am. Therefore, the headlining band that I paid money to see played a thirty-minute set. That’s simply not enough for me. If one of the bands from the show had not played (don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed all three last evening), and the headliner when on at a “respectable” time of say 12:00am (remember, this was a Thursday night as well), then the headliner could play for an hour and still be done by the magical 1:00am time.

Shortness aside, The Manchester Orchestra’s set was good, but not fantastic. They are currently working out songs for a new CD and it showed. One person to get a pass, especially because his performance was excellent, was the newly-added (substitute?) guitar player who as we found out had only one practice session before last night’s show. Had the lead singer not mentioned this, I would have never known. It seems like the former guitar player fucked over the band in some fashion (drama? in bands? never!) and last night’s guitar player responded to the call for help. I also didn’t take too kindly to the lead singer saying that he didn’t recognize any of the audience members, and that if we were like most Atlantan’s we’d probably never attend another of their shows. This being my second The Manchester Orchestra show, I will combat that by saying that I am already tired of the band’s decision to end show by exiting the stage with, the exception of the lead signer, and allowing him to play a solo. Put that number into the middle of the set (with all members remaining on stage) and then begin rocking again with the next song.

Bad Day In The Mail Room?
On Wednesday I ordered items from Amazon and KEH. According to the websites all items were stock and were to ship within twenty-four hours. As of this morning neither has shipped. Even more frustrating is that I am still an Amazon Prime member and they are quoting me a delivery day of June 21-June 27. The who reason for my becoming an Amazon Prime member was free TWO-DAY shipping on items in stock. This really sucks.

What’s The Deal-io Scana
Ever since the State Farm snafu last week I have been sensitive when it comes to paying my bills. When I received a notification from Scana about by bill being ready I had to do a double-take. I was certain that I had just paid them because in addition to paying my current bill I resigned for six months of fixed-rate natural gas. When I logged on I was comforted to see that I had paid my bill the other day, but bothered by the fact that I had another bill for two days of service. WTF?

A Night At The Flopera

Something Ventured, Nothing Gained
Last night’s meetup with Maigh and Dave was fun, but ultimately unproductive for me. In the few hours I spent pounding the keys of my iBook I learned that Wordpress, and the theme that I have selected for this blog could frustrate the hell out of me.

Can you see the changes I made? No? That’s because after all my attempts I backed out almost all of my changes. Looks like I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

Keeping My Eye On Target
One of the many things I dislike about working in the Perimeter Mall area is the difficulties of getting to life’s necessities such as gas stations and grocery stores.

I was running a tad late this morning I decided to try my luck grocery shopping at the Super Target across the road. To my surprise, most of the things that I would be shopping for while spending time in the office were present. Since I rarely darken the halls of many grocery stores these days unless I am on a beer run I can’t compare the prices of Target’s food products to that of a Kroger or Publix. I figure that I probably paid a little more, but it’s well worth it for having a place to buy produce so near.

Now if they had only built a gas station in that shopping center…

La Casita Is Once Again Pouring
The signs plastered on light poles in East Atlanta claim “Margaritas are Back at La Casita”. My incredible powers of deduction tell me that La Casita Cantina has regained their liquor license. I’m glad to see that the liquor license snafu didn’t cripple their business.

Local Tunes For Local Ears
Tonight you will find me at The Earl for the Manchester Orchestra show. If you like local music, and want to support Fat Asian Baby at her new gig working for Performer Magazine then come on down to my hood for some tunes. Just remember to get a good Power Nap in before you do, as shows at The Earl tend to run late. And can I suggest a basket of boiled peanuts and Miller High Life for dinner? The do a body good, you know…

Home Again, Unnaturally

Twas another slow night in my ITP. I’ve not been booking my schedule quiet so tightly after last week, and this being the first Tuesday night in six sans photography class I decided to take it easy. For a change I actually cooked at home as well. Can you say “baked ziti”? I knew you could. I thought about taking a picture of my success, but then it looked so good that I was driven to dive right into it. Close your eyes and use your imagination. I knew you could.

World Cup Fever… Catch It!
Nah, not for me thanks. I can’t even muster the interest to be a fan during this heightened interest period of Soccer, Futbol, whatever. Give me baseball, hockey, or football and I’m a happy camper. The only thing that may pique my interest is the thought of early-morning drinking, which is probably illegal in Atlanta.

Aw Hell’s Yeah!!
It’s back and I am already hooked! Hell’s Kitchen is back on Fox. Monday was a two-hour special to get people hooked and they succeeded greatly with me.

The only thing that I find odd is how the show mentions the thousands of people who applied to be on the show, but only twelve were picked to compete. When I looked on the website I noticed an oddity, with the exception of two contestants, all of the contestants were from New York or Texas. Are you telling me that these are the only two states which contains applicants who were qualified and were good fits for the show?

On Safari In L5P
I pass this elephant head in Little 5 Points every day on my commute to work (the one where the car takes me from door to door). On my photostroll last Saturday I was finally able to get a picture of it with some half-decent lighting.

L5P Is Still Wild...

I must admit that odd shit like this really makes me happy.

Inside The Perimeter v2.1 Coming Soon?
Tonight I plan to meet up with Maigh and Dave to pick up pointers for this space. This was the meeting that was supposed to happen last Wednesday night, but you already know what happened… I should have been reading up on how to use Wordpress, but because I thought that this meeting was happening sooner than it has, I’ve been slacking.

Look for this space to evolve (rapidly) as I attempt to bring back Fan Favorites like “Walk In My Footsteps” and “George’s Running Maps”. Oh the anticipation!!!!

Allow me to present to you snippets of two emails that I received yesterday

Oh what will I ever do if I lose that nickel that remains in my account?

Woo Hoo! Food Poisoning and $0.71 returned to me? I really can’t wait until I have enough time to click the link and rate my dining experience at Lettuce Souprise You now…

CD Picking
Unlike recent weeks I actually know some of the bands releasing CDs today. According to the list shown at Metacritic the obvious choice would appear to be Sonic Youth. Truth be told, I was never that big of a Sonic Youth fan back in the day, so I am going to go another direction today.

Today I am going to steer you toward the (US) release of “News And Tributes” by The Futureheads. The Futureheads are one of the many bands I am looking forward to seeing/hearing up in Chicago next month at the Pitchfork Music Festival. As the date grows nearer I am getting more excited about this trip.

Back To Normal

And The Winner Is….
“Chicken Fngers with French Fries at the Universal Joint in Oakhurst.” That’s actually the answer to two questions, “What was the first ‘real’ meal I ate post-food-poisoning?” and “What was the first restaurant to get my business post-food-poisoning?”

My stomach was still feeling a bit uneasy on Friday and managed to put down about 3/4 of the meal, but passed on any beverage other than water. My first beer was consumed a few hours later back at the house.

I’m glad to say that all is back to normal. I even decided to push the limits a bit yesterday by eating breakfast at The Majestic Diner (no need for a website I guess). I was feeling hungry and I knew that odds were good that there would be a stool open at the counter so that I wouldn’t have to put in the required Sunday morning hour wait to eat.

Pictr This!
I was up early Saturday morning, in part to return my sleep cycle to one which agrees with work, and in part to participate in my first Flickr photostroll. I met a group about twelve at Oakland Cemetery where we spent an hour or so strolling around snapping photos

Bobby Jones' 19th Hole

before then moving to Little 5 Points to take some more.

Here's Looking At You

If you want to look at all of the photos I shot that day click here.

After photostrolling a large number of us decided to grab a bite to eat at Evans Fine Foods near Emory. Have you ever passed a place a thousand times and never really taken notice of it? Evans is such a place for me. It has been in business for fifty years and I have never heard of anyone eating there before. I ate some biscuits and gravy, which I topped with an order of hash browns and had a glass of milk. I was joyous when none of these caused even the smallest problem with my stomach. So, have any of you eaten at Evans Fine Foods?

Hashing Or Natural Selection?
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference…

Sunday was a Black Sheep hashing day. It was a birthday hash laid by my friend Thomas (aka Colonel Cl*t). I expected a hard trail and I got that and about three times more than I wanted. A portion of the trail went through a swamp in which each step of mine went knee deep in mud. At times I wanted to tip over and drown myself. After finally getting out of the swamp and running/walking for awhile we entered a tunnel (sewer pipe) which was ungodly long. Long tunnels are generally not too bad, however this gem had about four connection turns within it and two of the tubes were so tight that I had to duck walk or crawl through them.

Why do I mention these details? Because hashers aren’t “right in the head” and you should know that any time you deal with one. We hashers have a motto that “You pays your money, you takes your chances” and sometimes that is more accurate than others.

Writing Off The Week

Other titles considered
“The Return Of Eeyore”
“Nice Guys Finish Last”
“Paulie: A Hellavu Guy Who Looks Like Hell”
“Stop Me If You’ve Heard This Before”

The Omen
I should have taken the dead bird as an omen of the type of week that I was about to experience.

Life As A Wyeth Painting

After getting off the phone with another woman who thought we’d make better friends than lovers I decided to throw my hands up and ask “What else?”. It wasn’t a surprise, but was a nice swift kick to the nuts round out the week.

So let’s tally the week

  • Monday: Received letter from State Farm that payment not received and policy is to be cancelled. Luckily I believe that has been fixed
  • Tuesday: IT shuts down almost all Internet access at work, I get food poisoning
  • Wednesday: Completely shot, spent the entire day, well 96% of it, in bed
  • Thursday: the phone call

As I post this I am contemplating whether or not to go to work. I’m not sure whether being alone would be a good or bad thing today. Even worse I cannot even drown my sorrows at a lunchtime Chinese buffet because I don’t think that my body is able to process “real food” yet.

[UPDATE @7:25am - I went back to sleep after posting and just woke up from my sleep. Looks like I've decided to burn a paid-day-off.]

Let’s Talk Footwear
I hurts me to keep dropping by Maigh’s place and see her posts about these fucking-ugly-gardening-shoes-cum-fashion-statement called Crocs of Shit. I have no need to fear them, I have eyes and know that my feet will never be wearing them.

Instead I present a far more intelligent option for the summer, the bottle opening sandal.

Yes children, you can have attractive footwear that also serve up an awesome function such as opening a beer bottle. And let’s face it, any beer worth drinking requires a bottle opener.

It’s A Show About Nothing

Food Poisoning v. Paulie, Round 2
I have to admit that Food Poisoning has put up a much harder fight than I thought it could. Round two was scored a draw as each opponent displayed rope-a-dope techniques while comtemplating their final strategy.

Yesterday’s sum total of food was two cans of Ginger Ale and one glass of a Gatorade-like substance. I never left the house yesterday; 98% of my day was spent in bed, with the exception of about an hour on the couch, and trips to the bathroom and kitchen. Today I am still beat, something to do with the fact that I was awake from 2:00am-4:00am I surmise.

Round 3, what I hope will be the final round, is going in my favor. I’m out of bed and have eaten a banana nut muffin and drank a glass of milk (I hear it does a body good, y’know).

Where You Probably Won’t Find Me Tonight
Two fun things are on Atlanta’s schedule this evening, I will most likely be missing both. “The Wiz” is playing on the green of Piedmont Park, bring a blanket and a boxed dinner (bring nothing that will spoil — trust me). For live music interests, Starlight Mints are playing tonight at Smith’s Olde Bar. Either event will be worth your time or money, so I suggest that you get out of the house tonight. As for me, I’ll most likely be on the couch with a glass of Ginger Ale and a bowl of white rice. I’m taking this recovery nice and slow, see; nice and slow.

Sorry for another brief post today. I’m running very late so I don’t have the time I’d like to devote to this. Tune in tomorrow for a return to form, including one of my non-award-winning pictures!

The Things I Endure For Blogging

Hello Ginger Ale, My Old Friend
What do you call an evening of violent shivering even while under blankets, vomiting, passing out, hallucinating, wondering if you are going to die, being parched but not having the strength to make it to the kitchen in order to get a glass, all while making countless immediately necessary trips to the bathroom and being frustrated that your medicine cabinet lacks the one item that you need? I call it “Tuesday night.”

Last night I knew something wasn’t right. I had eaten dinner at Lettuce Souprise You, mentioned here matter-of-factly, although I can think of nothing else I would have eating which could caused this. I went to my final Digital 102 class, without incident. When driving to Graveyard Tavern to crash the On In of the “Chicks No Dicks” hash, I started to have cold shivers. After buying a bottle of wine as a peace offering for crashing their festivities, I left Graveyard saying that I didn’t feel well and that I was headed home to get some rest.

It’s now nearing 11am on Wednesday and I’ve finally been able to get to the basement to grab a couple cans of Ginger Ale, the only substance my body is willing to ingest. My legs still ache, and I struggled incredibly to complete the task without stalling. In the battle of Food Poisoning v. Paulie I have taken Round 1.

I am still very sleepy. See you all later.
