There’s Nothing Like Home Cooking
One of the little-known facts about me is that I am a really good cook. This skill is a double-edge sword however because it not only occupies time that I need to exercise, but cooking tasty food doesn’t exactly help the waistline either.

I’ve taught myself how to cook out of necessity. Because I have lived alone for so long (cue pathetic music) if I wanted food at home I was the one who was going to have to cook it. Over the past few years I’ve soured on cooking at home because it’s hard for me to cook a meal for one person (is that pathetic music I hear?) and I am not the biggest fan of leftovers (with the exception of lasagne, chili, and meatloaf).

Last night I decided that it was time to return to the kitchen to do something more than grab a beer out of the refrigerator. Jambalaya was the destination and because I had made a trip to this mysterious place called a “grocery store” on Sunday I had all of the ingredients to make it. The recipe chosen was one that I’ve made often so I knew that it would turn out well — and I was right. After I was all done I realized that I could have taken photos throughout the process and posted a recipe to Flickr. Oh well, maybe next time. Anyone want to guess what I’ll probably be having for lunch today and/or tomorrow? 🙂

Fortune Cookie Logic
If only the cookie was right. The last two fortune cookies I received had said “A vacation to sunny shores is soon in store for you” and “You have a charming way with words and should write a book.” A nice vacation in a sunny locale where I could sit and write this space, and with any luck be able to go out and shoot photos, sounds incredibly inviting right now.

CD Pick Of The Week
My CD pick for this week isn’t even big enough news to make it to Metacritic’s Upcoming Releases. However, I still think that my choice is noteworthy.

My pick this week is from Cold War Kids and is known as “Robbers And Cowards”. Truth be told, this CD is a conglomeration of songs from their previous EPs as well as some new material.

I was able to give the “Robbers And Cowards” an entire listen over at AOL’s Listening Party before they changed the cds that they are streaming. While Cold War Kids won’t be everybody’s cup of tea as they are mostly piano-driven rock songs (think “Ben Folds”), I enjoyed the music enough to pre-order the CD from Decatur CD. I will be swinging by to pick it up on my way home from work.

Cold War Kids played Atlanta back in July. Hopefully they will swing back through the Southeast to support this release. As it stands now the closest they will get is Nashville.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – bummed because Ellen wasn’t at Joe’s this morning, and also because my nose has started to run (at least some part of my body is running…)
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Devo — “Uncontrollable Urge”
Website Of The Day – I’m told that there are alcoholic beverages other than beer. I was quite skeptical until I found Extra Tasty, an excellent mixology website.
Exercise (b)Log – none, I decided to stay home and cook instead

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

I like the band Morphine (likely would enjoy the drug as well) but I HATE web sites with music. Is that why you noted that the Corner Tavern site is NSFW? I always thought ‘NSFW’ was only for porn-ish or gross stuff.

I hope David and Mary win—if only to have them on the show for a long-long time—they’re hilarious! hee hee

    Happy Second B-day too!

The music is why I threw up the NSFW. You are right that it is normally meant for porn and gross stuff, but when I went to the site it was really loud music and I had to quickly kill the page. I just don’t want anyone to get busted at work for reading my blog. In the future I’ll try to label things a little better.

I’d be okay with David and Mary winning. It seems unlikely especially with her injury, but they are far and away the most entertaining pair on the show.

Funny! Cold War Kids is my pick of the week too! Great album.

P.S. You eat a LOT of Chinese.

I always knew you had great taste in music Tessa. 🙂

I think I eat a lot of Chinese because
    a) I love the flavors
    b) It’s one of the types of foods I am unable to recreate in my kitchen
