It’s All About Moi

Cold As Ice
Nope, not talking women here (although the header is applicable) I’m talking about hockey.

After determining the best plan of action for driving down to Philips last night (do not ask because it didn’t work out so well) I left work and high-tailed toward downtown.

I was packing camera equipment so my first task was to find out if I’d be allowed to bring it inside. The ticket agent didn’t know (argh) so I walked to one of the entrances and got the a-ok from one of the ticket-takers. This wound up working in my favor. On my trip back to the ticket counter a guy, who had overheard my conversation with the ticket agent, asked me the outcome of my quest. Remember how I mentioned that it was 2-for-1 ticket night last night? It turned out that this guy was in a party of five (wouldn’t that make a great tv show?) and he was in possession of six $55 (which cost $27.50 last night) tickets. I offer the guy $25 for his extra and made the deal on the spot.

After the first period ended I went walking to the section that my normal hockey companions occupy. I had a good chuckle when the following conversation with one of the spotlight operators.

operator: you should be taking photos from the catwalk.
me: no can do, I’m afraid of heights. (sidenote: why do I always tell people this?)
operator: well then you are in the wrong profession.

Hah! I’ve made it! I’ve accomplish the “professional photographer” look! W00t! That’s at least two steps above Comic Book Guy.

On my way to buy a tasty Molson Canadien I found my friend Harold and his son Alex in line for beer (imagine that!). I wound up sitting with them for the second and third periods, drinking beer and shooting the shit.

Btw- Philips Arena is cold when hockey is being played (I know the ice needs cold temps, but I didn’t remember it being that cold inside the arena in the past).

It’s Not The Heat, It’s The Humidity
After exiting Philips Arena I was in the mood to do a night-time photostroll around Centennial Park. Unfortunately, the change of temperature and humidity from inside the arena to outside kept fogging up my lenses. The idea of waiting for the epuipment to acclimate became a buzzkill so I packed up and headed home.

I really dig this picture eventhough this little guy was photographed in a terrarium and not in the wild.

Gate Access Required?
I found out yesterday that Cold War Kids are playing with Foreign Born in Nashville on October 24th (a Tuesday). In planning this pie-in-the-sky field trip I consulted Mapquest to see how far Nashville is from my office.

It turns out to be too far for a weekday trip, however step 11 of the directions really made me laugh

11: Turn LEFT onto EAKIN-WEAKLEY DR (Gate access required).

Gate access required? Is the Government test-marketing “The Fence” they are going to install along the US/Mexico border by fencing off Nashville?

I really wish that this was a Friday night show so that I could make the trip.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – not half bad
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Long Winters — “Fire Island, AK”
Website Of The Day – I haven’t figured out the purpose for Veer yet, however it does contain some fantastic photography and it rhymes with “beer” so it can’t be all bad.
Exercise (b)Log – none, I was a hockeying last night

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
