Brrrrrr

For those of you reading this in tropical locales let me tell you that it is really damn cold right now in Atlanta. For those of you reading this in locales which normally get this cold, let me tell you that it is really damn cold right now in Atlanta. The fact that the wall closest to my desk is all glass is not really helping matters either — I even have a small space heater in the office that is losing the battle.

Will I Ever Be Hungry Again?
I know that I bitch about my weight constantly, so you’d think that not desiring food would be a good thing. However, I can’t believe that I’ve not really been hungry since Sunday. I’ve been eating (and drinking) since, but it has definitely not been because I felt the need to eat. Not wanting to eat is a very strange feeling for me.

This is Randy holding the prized possession earned by winning at bowling.

Randy's Newest Prized-Possession

I hope that posting this photo doesn’t ruin my chances for staying at the house when I come up to North Carolina. 🙂

There Is One Thing That Has Warmed My Heart
The other day I received one of those unsolicited, completely unexpected messages of thanks that can only make one feel like a million bucks. The message was from a Flickr friend of mine who has just completed the extremely impressive task of taking a photo-a-day for a year. In the message she said that a comment I made on one of her (amazing) photos was the impetus for convincing her to take the leap and start the process.

The best thing of all? Those of us that got to see a new photo each day were the real winners.

Speaking Of Long-Term Flickr Projects
On January 1, 2008 a new long-term Flickr project called the Atlanta Grid Project launched. Each month one or two new ITP (yippee!) map grids will be identified and the group members will go out and take photos of the areas in the current grid. It’s been calculated that if we do two map grids per month then the project will take us about ten years to complete. If you live in the Atlanta area and you are a photo-geek I suggest that you go check the group out.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – wishing that I was warm
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Manchester Orchestra — “Golden Ticket” (if you’ve not jumped on the Manchester Orchestra bandwagon you really should)
Website Of The Day – The other day I renewed my “Friendship” membership with the Len Foote Hike Inn. With the high cost of airline travel expect me to be making more trips to locations such as this in 2008. I promise (or threaten) to bring my camera equipment.
Exercise (b)Log – I thought about exercise, does that count?
Monthly Foot Mileage – 0 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car
Monthly Marta Rides – 0

January Goals
1) Run no fewer than 50 miles
2) Ride Marta no fewer than sixteen times (eight round-trips)
3) Read at least one book

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

The Inn looks really nice. I’m looking forward to a little warmer weather and maybe doing some more camping. FYI your link doesn’t work.

That is very cool you inspired someone, go Paulie!!

  2. Barb says:

I need some gloves that I can type in – any suggestions? I have a corner desk, so I’m surounded by cold windows.

Randy looks so thrilled that he beat Bob & Paulie!!! And, that picture came out a lot better than I thought it would, you have a better camera phone than I do.

  3. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Ooops, thanks! It would have helped had I inserted the URL and not the name of the establishment. 😉

The Inn is a nice getaway. For what is provided I think it’s a bit pricey, but as a “Friend” I get a 10% discount (and a tax write-off for the membership). Bwana, One Ball, and Snail Trail went up there a few weeks ago. I’ll probably make a “Paulie takes a holiday from everyone he knows” weekend trip up there this year.

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yeah, for a phone it takes decent photos. My only real gripe with the phone is that it is Windows-based and I have all but moved on to an Apple world.

  5. RanLiCoop says:

Hey, that photo was supposed to be for Bob specifically, not for posting on the internets for the entire world to see…

Oh, what the heck, the 2008 Cheddarhead Bowling Champion (male) is not about to let a cheesy picture like that “throw him off his game”. You can always stay with us whenever you are in the Triangle.

Looking forward to Cheesy Bowling 2009!

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I’ll pull the photo if you want. I’m just trying to make you an Internet star!

  7. Bob says:

Gongrats Randy! I’m going to start training now for Chedderhead 2009. I’ll be ready for you!!

  8. Brody says:

It’s is freaking freezing outside. This Florida Cracker is about to snap. I cried ice cubes while walking to work.

Do you have to live ITP to join the Flickr group? I’m JOTP.

  9. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Brody, the Atlanta Grid group is open to all.

  10. Brody says:

Nice, I joined. Only, am I going to get shot at in that first grid?

They can have my camera when they pry it off the cold ground where it fell from my terrified hands.

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yeah, the first grid is in a little less than “nice” neighborhood. I don’t know the algorithm for picking grids. I have a feeling people will start setting up group outings to the current grids as well, so keep your eyes on the group. If I ever hear of any that I plan on joining I will mention it on the blog.

  12. Martha says:

    Re: the grid

That looks like one of those areas that when we meet up for a hash everyone in the parking lot ‘warns’ us that we shouldn’t be there.

  13. Barb says:

THE GRID – actually – I don’t think that section is all that bad. I remember Allan telling me once that if we were going to move ITP (into the City of Atlanta, since that is who pays him) that Adams Park wouldn’t be that bad of a place to live. Station 14 (his old station) isn’t far from there at all.

  14. Terri (SW) says:

FYI- that section of the grid is mighty close to the start of this week’s Pinelake!

Might have to bring my camera…

  15. SANI says:

Needless to say I am very happy the bowling title stayed in the family. Sorry I did not get to go and defend my title but well babysitting….Much more improtant – just like that lost baby stroller of mine….

  16. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

You mean that stroller I saw sitting at Gary’s curb when we drove away? Hmmm, I guess I should have said something then…
