Have You Sprung Ahead?

Published by Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10, 2008 07:52 am under Comments Disabled, My Daily Life

On Friday I failed to mention that this weekend we moved our clocks ahead an hour. I’m sure that you’ve figured it out by now, right? I have to admit that last night I was a little confused to see so much light after 7pm.

Read Along With Me
Today’s passage from Notes To Myself.

The bully in me always bullies in the name of principle or in the name of rules. The bully in me always has a reason for its actions and that reason is always idealistic. This part of me is a sissy — it hides behind “what is right” so I won’t have to admit my desire to hurt.

To all who have helped me — Thanks.

Theater Of The Mind
On Friday night I ventured into Little 5 Points to head to Horizon Theatre to see “The Missionary Position.” The plan was to meet up with Stacy at the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club. Much to my surprise when I walked in to the Yacht Club I saw my friends Wil and Amy (Wil You Suck and Fairy Juice in hash parlance). After eating an incredible brisket sandwich Stacy and I walked over to the theater for the play.

“The Missionary Position” is a four-person play which centers around a political aide who has staunch Christian beliefs and tries to apply those to all around him. He has numerous encounters with a male enemy, a female comedic foil, as well as with maids who are working in each of the towns he visits. The play was interesting and well-acted so I enjoyed it very much. However, I will warn you that if religious humor or the use of fowl foul language bothers you, this is not the play for you. fyi – The play runs through the end of the week.

Nothing Like A Little Spring Cleaning To Snow Flurries
On Saturday morning as the faint snow occurred in Atlanta I started my Spring cleaning which ended as quickly as the snow.

The goal of Saturday was to cook a Red Curry Chicken dish. I drove out to Buford Highway to shop at my coworker’s family store Hoa Binh Grocery. After picking up most of the items for the dish I headed over to my friend Betsy’s place to attempt to fix a dvd player that I had given her. I failed. To buoy our spirits we walked over to The Righteous Room in order to get some wings and beer.

A few beers and a long nap at home later I realized that I wasn’t going to make the Red Curry Chicken…

ITP Flickr Pic
None today. Mostly because I took no pictures today, but that’s not the only reason. I took a photo this morning at work but the internet here today is shite so I am unable to upload it to Flickr.

I’m Losing My Patience With Firefox
My disgust may have something to do with the hideous internet performance here at work. Regardless, I have had to manually kill Firefox on my Windows machine because it has locked up solid more times in the past two weeks than all of the times combined since I’ve started using it. It seems that Firefox is starting to suffer the same pains of all of the maturing software that has come before it. Rats!

I’m A Big Fan Of Rounding — Numbers That Is
9.5 miles seems a lot like 10.
198.4 pounds seems a lot like 198.

Lying with numbers can be so much fun!

Yesterday morning a small group of two headed out for a ten-mile effort. Not even a mile into the run I discovered that my imitation CamelBak was leaking my Gatorade onto my butt and I knew that I couldn’t have this dripping occur for another hour and thirty minutes. So, the two of stopped for a minute as I abandoned the pack on the side of the road.

Here’s a tip for you…. Never run a 10 (or even 9.5) mile course set out by skinny people who are also good runners. The course went up and down and up and down and up and down — I think you catch my drift.

Sure, I could have added another half mile to the run in order to complete my scheduled ten, but I really didn’t care by that time.

Happy Almost March 11th!
Every March 11th the Black Sheep Hash holds it Founders’ Day hash. Through somewhat faulty logic involving the occurrence of February 29th, the March 11th hash will be held on March 10th. To be fair, the Black Sheep was a Monday night hash when it started seventeen years ago (before my time) and having a hash on Monday night followed by one on Tuesday night seems silly. Regardless of the date I wouldn’t miss this event.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – frustrated
Current Music – listening to the “Car Talk” podcast
Website Of The Day – While it focuses mostly on the West Coast, OpenRoad TV has the potential to be a really neat website. I only wish that it had videos for East Coast drives.
Exercise (b)Log – running, 9.5 miles
Monthly Foot Mileage – 38 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Monday Morning Weigh-In – 198 pounds (oops, I knew things weren’t held in check last week)
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car
Monthly Marta Rides – 0

March Goals
1) Run no fewer than 75 miles
2) Ride Marta no fewer than ten times (five round-trips)
3) Read at least one book

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

I hope I was at least able to keep you entertained on those hills with my very rare ‘running uphill tourettes’.

I’m pretty sure I need a new scale…somehow I’m 10 pounds heavier than I was yesterday. Bob cooked us a killer breakfast and dinner at the Depot was good…but come on??

  2. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 08:05

You were a great running partner Martha. I only wish that my legs were responding better yesterday so that we could have run better.

Breakfast was good indeed (not to mention the beers ;) ) Let’s blame the change in time on our apparent weight gain.

  3. Barb on March 10th, 2008 @ 08:21

Hmmmm – Norcross this evening for a hash…….. that is something to think about.

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 09:00

    Norcross means that I had to pack a bag this morning. :{

We’ve started hashes from that location (BWanA’s office) before — good stuff up there.

  5. Brenan on March 10th, 2008 @ 09:59

Not to interfere with you training schedule Paulie but I know you like puck so if you (or any other ITP rink rats) would like some free tix to this Thursday’s game against the Sabres just let me know — I got 20-30 through work that I need to get rid of.

  6. Brenan on March 10th, 2008 @ 10:01

Damn it I hate it when I hit submit then seconds later catch a grammatical error (see “you training schedule” above)!

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 10:06

Hehe, I do it all the time (and I even have the ability to edit comments)

Let me think about Thursday. Normally I’d jump on the opportunity in a second, however here is my schedule for the remainder of the week

    Monday: Black Sheep Founders’ Day
    Tuesday: Hockey, Colorado v. Atlanta
Wednesday: Bob Mould @ Variety Playhouse
    Thursday: free
    Friday: free
    Saturday: Party

so I don’t know if I want to give up one of my two free nights. :(

  8. Barb on March 10th, 2008 @ 10:08

    Brenan –
I’d love to take 2 free hockey tickets for Thursday night off your hands. Are you going to the game? Big beers at Gorins before? I don’t know if I can get ITP before then….. and Sani’s son Kevin (Daffy Dick) might be interested as well, I’ll email him.

  9. Barb on March 10th, 2008 @ 10:13

hey Paul – I just noticed that the comments didn’t get the daylight saving time change yet.

  10. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 10:15

Dammit! I even wrote about it today and forgot to change the time! MOTHERF……..!

    (thanks)

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 11:16

    test

  12. Brenan on March 10th, 2008 @ 11:22

Barb — consider the tix (and Kevin’s too if interested) yours. I don’t plan to go myself but I can drop them off at George’s Wednesday or you can always swing by our home in Old Fourth Ward any other time if that works better. Just let me know. So we don’t clutter up Paulie’s blawg my email is: bcstearns@gmail.com.

  13. Steve on March 10th, 2008 @ 11:30

I wanted to know about the “fowl” language at the play. I’m not sure what poultry has to do with the subject… but it could just be art.

    Unless you meant foul language.

This time change thing has really thrown you off your game, hasn’t it.

    -FP

(I’ll be receiving my beating at Georges, if you like…)

  14. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 12:19

No, they kept yelling “cock”, and “you old hen”.

I must have been thinking about a chicken biscuit as I typed this morning. Or at least about the red curry chicken that I didn’t make.

    :)

And I’ll be at George’s to deliver Yuengling but not run. I’ll be headed to the Variety Playhouse that night for the Bob Mould concert.

  15. Martha on March 10th, 2008 @ 15:09

Paulie, if you want to run Wednesday morning let me know, Alicia and I usually do about 4. Yes it sort of sucks, running that early but it is great to get if over and done with….

  16. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 15:13

What time? Where do you meet? What other questions can I ask?

  17. Martha on March 10th, 2008 @ 15:17

    How about who is Alicia?

We usually meet at 6, at her house, which is on Clifton before that ass kicking hill (no worries we hit that on the return trip going down).

I would never make it out at the hour for a run if someone wasn’t waiting on me.

  18. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 15:25

I was going to ask who Alicia was, but I didn’t want to send out the wrong vibes.

I really wish that I still worked in my old office so that I’d be much closer to the office post-run.

I’ll let you know if I am going to meet up with you two. I *may* just wind up driving up to work and running around here so that I am near a shower when I am done.

  19. Martha on March 10th, 2008 @ 15:36

Okay cool, just FYI we do actually start running at 6…this isn’t hasher time we are on (like yesterday). We are usually done by 6:45…so it doesn’t put me too far behind schedule.

  20. Paulie [eatl/ga] on March 10th, 2008 @ 15:43

Loud and clear. However, remember I was the other one who was there earlier enough to start running by 8:30am yesterday. :)

  21. Martha on March 10th, 2008 @ 15:54

Oh, it isn’t that I didn’t think you would show up on time, you are as AR as I am (and Alicia for that matter)…Just if timing was going to be an issue, I wanted you to know that we do leave on time so you could make plans re: getting to work.
