I purposely left out the phrase "cork soakers" to see who would bring it up. Thanks for not letting me down, Martha. :D

In all seriousness I find your information fascinating and suppose that had I done a little extra work would have found this myself. But then I would have less for the blog, so my ignorance is blissful.

Okay so I just had to do a little reading on cork...

the cork used for floor and cork used for, well, corks is a little different. According to what I read you can't use cork for corks until the third harvest from the tree, which means that the tree is 52 years old...but the 1st and 2nd harvest is just fine for flooring.

There were/are some issues with the 'quality' of cork (it needs to be really good cork to make corks), that along with increased wine production....

oh hell why am I going on...and why do I keep wanting to say cork soakers....

Understood, but where did all of this extra cork come from? I mean if there was such a shortage we couldn't make wine corks, how can we make flooring? Is it a different type of cork? Is it like calling dolphin (not Flipper) "mahi-mahi" so that people will approve?

the cork flooring looks just like hardwood - I think it is a little more expensive, but I hear it makes a great floor. I'm in the tile mode at the moment, the bathroom is taking shape and soon it will be time to install the tile.
