Letting Myself Down

I know, I beat myself up too much. Yep, sure do.

Last night I didn’t run, didn’t go out to meet friends at one of my favorites locales (The Brick Store Pub in Decatur), and didn’t go to the Variety Playhouse to see The Faint. Instead I meandered up to The Midway Pub and noshed on some delicious deep-fried chicken tenders. I attempted to be “good” by only eating half of my huge portion, but found myself finishing them off a few hours later in front of the tv.

Read Along With Me
Today’s passage from Notes To Myself.

One thing has become clear: all acquaintances are passing. Therefore I want to make the most of every contact. I want to quickly get close to the people I meet because my experience has shown we won’t be together long.

To all who have helped me — Thanks.

If I Only Had An iPhone Or iPod Touch
Waaaah!

There’s been a lot of buzz in the iPhone / Photography community over a new application for the iPhone called PhoneCalc. From his description…

PhotoCalc is a general purpose utility for photographers, offering exposure reciprocation, depth of field and hyperfocal distance calculation, as well as a handy reference section with a sunrise/sunset calculator (uses the iPhone/iPod touch location services to determine your current location), a zone system table, the Sunny 16 rule, and some other useful things for when you’re on the go.

Here’s the really cool thing about PhotoCalc, I know its author. Sadly, it’s not me. However, it is someone with whom I’ve had the pleasure to shoot and shoot with — his name is Chris and his photography work can be found on his Flickr photostream.

Look for me to get either an iPhone or an iPod Touch in the future. I am just waiting to see what Apple has to say for themselves at the end of September when they have a scheduled announcement.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game
It’s somewhat difficult for me to fathom that it’s the middle of August and I’ve only attended one Braves game this year, and that game was played in April/May. How is this possible?

Tonight I will rectify this deficiency by heading to the game after work. I’m not too sure if I’ll drag the camera with me. I probably should since there is not much chance of rain, although I keep hearing more and more stories about people getting harassed bring DSLR’s into the stadium.

I Could Be Pulling A Hashing Double Header This Weekend
It’s rare when I hash both Saturday and Sunday of a given weekend. It takes a lot of time, and with an impending vacation next week time is of the essence. However, I’ve promised people with the Atlanta Hash that I’d make an effort to finally get my one hundredth hash with them. This weekend is also a Black Sheep Hash and since I missed the last one I am anxious to get back out there.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…

Monthly Marta Rides – 0
Consecutive Days Of Bed-Making (Longest Streak) – 23 (110)

1) Run/Walk no fewer than 75 miles
2) Ride no fewer than 150 road miles

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

“It’s difficult for me to fathom” that the baseball season can be so f*cking long… jesus. If you didn’t have to pay attention to the shit for 8 months out of the year and spend anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to see a game, I might actually be interested! I love soccer for that! 45 minutes, 15 break, 45 minutes, over. Get in, get out, get home!

On that note however, I’ve gotten myself on the EAV softball team! 1st game this Sunday at Coan Park… 3:30! Yours truly will be the one motoring around in Left field…….. thinkin’ about joining a coed or mens team also… anybody on here play on one??? need a warm body?

No hashing for me… some packing and working with some exchange students however.

  2. Gentri says:

… and no, before you get all smart, not the MS Exchange kind! 🙂

  3. Beth says:

So evidently your blog is blocked at my new job for “adult content” when I use the .com address. We’ll see how long the .net address works! I am teaching in Decatur now BTW … no more 400 commute whoo hoo!

  4. It’s easier to exchange students when you keep the receipts.

Adult content? Me? 😉 Here’s hoping that they don’t catch on anytime soon. And congrats on the new position!

  5. Barb says:

Congrats to Beth on the new closer to home job! what’s the differnece in the commute time?

  6. Beth says:

He he — Paulie made a funny.

Thanks — I basically had to wait for someone to die here to get a position. I love not having to deal with 400 every day. They need to blow that thing up and start over.

Gentri: Now you tell me you would be interested in playing coed softball. We had to cancel one of our games because we didn’t have enough players. Our playoffs start next week. We have enough for our first game…single elimination so if we lose this one…we’re out! 🙁

Great evening last night…everything for free! First went to the North Face Exclusive grand opening event with food and refreshments from Tw!st. The food was excellent and the beer and wine flowed freely. Plus they gave us a $25.00 gift card…so I used mine and Marty’s and got a pair of pants…free….with change back!! So we ate and drank for free, got free merchandize and money back.

Then off to the Braves game….firm tickets, yes free to us, great seats………got there a little late so the parking attendant was gone already…so, you guessed it…free parking!!! The beer we bought at the staduim was also free…sort of…Marty got a rebate Visa back on some equipment he had to buy for work…….and the best part….our friend, Craig drove….so we had a designated driver!

    Excellent evening…except that Cubbies won.

  8. Gentri says:

Sal, keep me in mind or if you need an extra! I’m playing on the EAV team, but am looking for a “real” league for the fall… beer drinking afterward a requirement however! Good luck in the playoffs!

Free North Face stuff doesn’t suck!

  9. Barb says:

Sal – I hope you bought a lottery ticket last night…….. you probably would have won more money!

  10. Beth says:

Barb — my former commute was 45 minutes going, 1-2 hours coming back because of the cluster #$%^ that is 75/85 these days — that is, if you could get through 400 in one peace. Now I’m looking at 15 minutes with several bars along the way if I get bored with that.
