You Can Go Home Again If You Wish

Spending time with my mother is good, although she keeps her house set to 78 degrees. I was looking forward to spending time in a house with air conditioning, I wonder if I can convince her to use hers more.

Read Along With Me
Today’s passage from Notes To Myself.

While I am worrying about what you think of me I am not open to you, I am not letting you in; in fact, I am not letting you exist as a person — I am making you my mirror. While I am concerned with what you are thinking about me I am not even thinking about you.

I choose to use my own mind. I do not need your mind. I want to experience you, listen to you — not to myself. I have already heard everything I have to say. You are what is novel about this conversation.

To all who have helped me — Thanks.

About Yesterday’s Ride
First off, it was rather rewarding. What initially was supposed to be a leisurely ride turned into my personal thirty-mile time trial.

When I lived in this part of Florida the Pinellas Trail was an active railroad. Shortly thereafter he rails were ripped up and a walking/riding trail (a la Silver Comet) was installed. As you know most railroad tracks are one flat land, which in this part of Florida is abundant.

Once my ride got to the parts where street crossings were few and far between I started upping the pace of my ride. Before I knew it I was bordering on speeding (the “speed limit” of the trail is only 20mph). By ride’s end my legs were sore, I was sweaty and somewhat sandy (this is Florida after all), and pleased with my effort.

I used to live two blocks from this sign when I was a teenager.
The Way The Chamber Of Commerce Would Always Like To See Things
I include it today mostly for my buddy, and of course ITP reader, Steve (aka FagPipes).

Walk down to the end of what used to be my block and this is what you see (and saw back them)
How The Other Half Lived
I always wondered what it would be like to have enough money to own a boat and sail out that way, or even more money to be able to live out there.

Strange Days Indeed
One of the purposes of this Florida trip is to help my mother with moving some stuff from her house to the apartment into which she is going to move.

As you may imagine she has had a little difficulty selling her house in these economic times. So when a real estate agent arrived a the door talking about a client who was very interested in the house hopes were increased.

Unfortunately, the real estate agent had the wrong house and was supposed to be at a house which is for sale down the street.

I really couldn’t make this shit up…
