Just Call Me Sleepy McSleeperson

Last night I stopped at Target and Kroger on my way home from work. Of course I failed to buy everything I needed at Target, and in addition to forgetting one key item at Kroger I failed to remember that my Kroger Customer Card has fallen off my keyring.

Once home I consumed a dinner of bread, brie, hummus, and beer, before heading to the basement for a little television and a lot of sleep. I was out like a light and oblivious to phone calls, lights, television, and sound.

The Amazing Race Loses Its Dark Horses
Before dozing off I managed to watch Sunday’s The Amazing Race.

I dare say that I didn’t expect the long-distance dating couple to be ousted so soon. I thought that they had the athleticism to keep them around longer. Oh well, I guess that getting the last plane out of Bumfuck will do that to a team.

I’m still struggling to find a team for whom to root. For some reason I can’t get behind Starr and whatever his name is. Mom and Dallas are okay. And the rest of the remaining teams have at least one member who aggravates the stuffing out of me.

Oh the power of (the lack of) punctuation.
Is This A License To Trespass?
I doubt that my argument would carry much weight, but as this sign is punctuated it I read it as “No Trespassing Violators Will Be Prosecuted” How cool is that?

And now for some shameless self-promotion…. I’ve uploaded a new photo to Jalapeño Beach. It’s a larger version of yesterday’s photo. If you subscribe to the RSS feed for the site then you will always know when I’ve put up a new shot. If you don’t subscribe to the RSS feed, then check on Tuesdays… because that’s when I am supposed to have a new shot uploaded.

I Wore A Sweater So Of Course The Heat Is On At Work
Yesterday my office was cold. I am sure that this was worsened because I was feeling crappy. Last night I finally cranked up the heat at home, the temperature had dipped to sixty-one degrees, and this morning chose to wear a sweater in order to beat the cold.

Of course they cranked the heat up in the office too. Bummer. I hope no one minds when I take off my sweater and reveal my undershirt. 😉

Digital Download Of The Week
I don’t know what disappoints me more

  1. The fact that I apparently listed this week’s new releases in last week’s blog entry

If you want to see what came out this week check my blog entry for October 21st.

I’ll notice when you throw out some Country new releases for me! 🙂 I know not these crazy bands of which you speak.

I, for once, chose wisely in my attire today! Freezing office: big purple cozy sweater. I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts, though, as I’m sure it’ll be the only time I choose properly all season.

Is it just me, or should there really be another weekend here already??

  2. I thought that I was choosing wisely, but alas I was wrong.

I’m certainly ready for a relaxing weekend. That being said, this upcoming one won’t be since I’ve signed up for a god-awful twelve-mile run in the mountains of North Georgia. What was I thinking? Oh yeah, I thought that I was going to be able to train for it and lose weight in the process. D’oh!

If you don’t have your Kroger Plus card, they can look it up by your phone#. (if you can remember the # you put on the application way back when). Or ask someone in line with you to scan theirs…….

I wish they would have told us at the end how far behind Ty & Aja really were. I know for editing purposes they tried to make it look close, but I don’t think it was at all. Frat boys need to go next, they are just too stupid for me.

I need typing gloves today here, do they make anything like that? My hands are FREEZING.

  4. I’ve been thinking about filling out another Kroger Plus card application and giving them phony data. 🙂

I agree about TAR. I’ve always wanted a real-time clock in the corner of the screen. Sure it would remove some of the suspense but it would also increase the awesomeness of the tasks. I too want the frat boys to go next; they refuse to read directions, they don’t deserve to be around.

    You eat this for dinner:

“Once home I consumed a dinner of bread, brie, hummus, and beer,…”

And the seem amazed at your weight? That’s a 4 carb dinner, my friend. No wonder you slept like the dead as soon as you sat down to watch tv.

  6. Martha says:

Paulie, after 7.5 miles in the cold and wind last night it was hard to think you didn’t make the right decision to stay in, good god it was cold.

It was even colder in the house this morning, the stupid person that lives there went to bed with the back door open!!! I think I need to get more sleep.

I’m running with BarHeel and his Grant Park group in the morning…I need to get more warm running clothes, I mean sure my frozen cropse will look cute in a pair of running shorts and a tank top but I will be a frozen cropse, most men so don’t find that attractive.

Mystery Mountain is looking more and more like a bad idea!!!

Oh guess what, Betsy left something in my car after the hash on Sunday, I would have never thought that would happen.

  7. I was tired all day yesterday. On more than one occasion I nearly fell asleep at work, and no amount of coffee could keep me awake. I’d agree with your conclusion if I ate like that every day, but this was a desire to satiate a sick body.

My cold (and still-hurting knee) were my decision makers for not running last night. Staying warm and getting a ton of sleep were merely added bonuses.

  8. Martha says:

I agree that being tired all day was partly your body fighting that cold. Eating better would also help. You eat a lot of carbs and that will cause your blood sugar to spike and then fall hard…

More protein, more small meals, a few less carbs (don’t cut them out completely) & more veggie will all help to even out those spikes and give you more energy throughout the day.

I can always tell when I haven’t been eating well.

Tonight is upper body and abs…I can come over and we can do it together!!!

  9. But you all make the assumption that I ate a lot last night. I ate a good deal of bread, whole grain, but a small amount of cheese and hummus, washed down with a single beer. Moderation is the real keys long as you get the necessary vitamins and minerals. Exercise, also in smart moderation, is also necessary to maintain a healthy and slender body.

There are no miracle diets. I can show you smokers who never get cancer. I can show you people who have no cavities who nosh on sugar cane. Everyone’s body is different and reacts differently to stimuli.

Oh and I am not saying that my diet is best for me. However, it was best for my mental state last night.

I have a house in which due to plumbing concerns I don’t feel comfortable washing dishes and wash clothes out of necessity. I am weighing my options and none of them sound cheap. Fuck, none of them even sound reasonable. I can’t sell my house. I can’t afford to buy another house. And I can’t afford to rent an apartment and rent my house because I’d still need to fix the house up before renting. The one place that is supposed to provide comfort and joy provides me a near nervous breakdown and a concern for my financial future. I’m kinda surprised I’ve yet to drink myself into oblivion.

  10. Yeah, you guessed it. I’m not having a great day today….

  11. Barb says:

Don’t get too depressed about house repairs, unfortunately they are a fact of life. (even with newer houses I’m told, though I don’t know this from personal experience, but they aren’t built as well, so I tend to believe it). Try to start to budget (if only in your mind) for them, just like trying to decide if you are going to purchase some new camera or computer stuff. You just have to sometimes give up something, to make something else happen. We just redid most of our plumbing & electrical this past year, and it will make you happy once it is all done. But it has made us cut out some stuff, like going out drinking at bars. We just try to invite people over, or go to their houses, it costs a whole lot less, and you are still talking to the same people you’d be talking to at the bar.

And – I’m on your side, all carb dinners are sometimes the best. Just don’t do it every night.

  12. I have a house repair budget. My house keeps breaking it and I still have a ton of things to repair before I could ever consider selling. Last night I was even more nervous as I turned the heat on “for real” for the first time since the guy who installed the air conditioner left. His “Let’s just hope the furnace doesn’t die anytime soon.” comment shook me to the point where I nearly told him to not install the air conditioner and start fresh and install both instead. If his comment was made while assessing my repare and not when he came over with the air conditioner to install it, I would have.

In the past I’ve considered becoming a certified plumber. I’m not kidding. I’ve figured that it’s a good thing to know, will never be outsourced, and possibly provide employment where ever I chose to live.

  13. Stacy says:

Also about Kroger card… the cashier should always have one they can scan for you, too. They’ll do that. Though often I’ll let people in front of me use mine because I do use their gas center and get the pennies off a gallon (hey! pennies help!)

I think, together, we’d have had a well-balanced meal last night, Paulie. I had proteins: chili with meat and beans, shredded cheese, a little sour cream, nothing at all resembling a carb. Perhaps we should just eat together more often!

Brisket sandwich, perhaps? It’s been a while!! 🙂 (on your meat day of course)

  14. The cashier did have one to scan. It has been so long since I’ve shopped for groceries that I forgot it was no longer on my keychain.

Brisket soon…… I’ll suggest after this weekend as a celebration of my completion of Mystery Mountain.

  15. Barb says:

Allan learned a lot about plumbing when our guy did the new bathroom stuff. He thinks (think is a key word) he can do the part that is left himself. I’ll let you know someday how that goes.

But – fixing the house is an investment in your financial future. Yes, it is a some bucks now, but in the long run it will be worth it. I’m pretty sure your house has gained value since you bought it, and I know you haven’t put anywhere near that much into it in comparison. And, it is much more rewarding to get to spend some time in the house after fixing it, as opposed to fixing it right before you want to sell. Just ask Allan, he was scarred for life from his parents doing that while growing up, that is why everything at our house happens sooner than later.

  16. Andrew says:

“I’ve been thinking about filling out another Kroger Plus card application and giving them phony data.”

Just scan a friends card and print a copy. Hell, I’m more than willing to send you a copy of mine if you have a printer. I scanned it long ago and print out another whenever I need it.
