I Think I’ve Blown A Gasket

Being “Tigger” is a lot harder than it should be. I know that I whine and complain a lot, but in my defense a lot of shit happens to me.

I am feeling lightheaded today, I can’t seem to get my bearings straight, and I need to be on my feet all day to work a local career fair today. Tune in tomorrow to see if I’m still kicking…

Macbook FAIL!
Last night I happily returned home with my new refurbished, last-generation black Macbook which arrived yesterday. Upon booting I noticed a problem immediately. The video on the screen was intermittently jittery. Look below at the video I shot using my Flip Video and uploaded to Flickr.

The whole reason I bought a refurbished Macbook was because I was under the belief that each refurbished machine was tested before being sent out for resale. Clearly this cannot be the case if a problem like this gets out of the refurbishing factory.

After getting bounced around to four different Apple employees in four different departments, the “resolution” to my problem was to call them back today so that I can get a return authorization and send the laptop back to them so they can ship me a different one.

Brrrrr, WTF?
I seriously thought that my heater had kicked the bucket this morning. I woke up cold, but that’s not unusual. After fighting the urge I finally exited bed to turn the heat on. To my dismay I saw the temperature at 60 and the target temperature at 66. Why no heat? Sometimes my thermostat gets confused, so I changed the target temperature to 63 to remind the heater that it was time for it to work. Nothing happened. I waited for a few minutes, and nothing happened. About to break-down I turned the thermostat off and then returned it to the Heat position, and the heater finally kicked on…

If I can get my wits about me I just may attempt to replace the thermostat.

Just like in this photo there is something missing in my life.
Resurgens
Hoping to fill in the gaps some day.

At Least Something Went Right Last Night
I successfully upgraded the memory in my iBook; it’s now kicking with 1.25GB of memory instead of the 768MB that it had previously. Now that I’ll have to rely on the old guy for at least another week I’m glad that this upgrade went smoothly.

No George’s For Me Tonight
It’s cold and I’ll be dealing with things that still need to be taken care of because the Macbook consumed far more time than it should have. Run well. Stay warm. Drink responsibly.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – Completely out of it today, hoping November will be better than October
Current Music – listening to my Hüsker Dü Radio station on Pandora via my Chumby.
Website Of The Day – I feel like I walk around with a huge bad luck target on my back. If you feel the same way and have trouble with your internet try Down For Everyone Or Just Me? to see if it’s just you having the problem.
Exercise (b)Log – nothing
Monthly Foot Mileage – 37.5 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – my car
Monthly Marta Rides – 0
Consecutive Days Of Bed-Making (Longest Streak) – 43 (110)
Books To Read To Earn Kindle – 4
Vegetarian Days – 18
Carnivore Days – 10

October Goals
1) Lose no fewer than three pounds
2) Drink nothing but water, coffee, beer, wine
3) Run no fewer than 75 miles
4) Bike no fewer than 125 miles

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Paulie Paulie Paulie….shit happens to everyone…..some just deal with it better than others………you need to look at the bright side of things!!
At least you have a house to complain about!! A lot of folks can’t even afford that.

At least you don’t have to wear a big ole air cast and walk around on crutches …not being able to even carry a cold beer from one spot to the other!!

You get the chance to run on the beautiful trails of Fort Mountain this week-end and hang out with friends! Suppose to be sunny and nice all week-end.

So put a smile on dude!! 🙂

  2. Thanks Sal.

I guess I could deal with it all better if it wasn’t one thing after another… constantly.

Running is going to be a relative term for me. Except for tha hash on Sunday I’ve done nothing for weeks. And every time I think my knee is 100% again I have pain getting in/out of chairs or going down stairs. 🙁

  3. sal says:

Does your knee hurt to walk? You could always walk the course and hang out with the sweeps!
Have you had an MRI or any films taken of your knee to know what’s going on with it?

  4. Only pain occurs when bearing weight at 90 degree angle or so (think getting out of a chair).

No MRI, let’s just says that my health insurance is a “little less than stellar” and I’d have to pay nearly the entire cost (actually whatever the insurance-negotiated cost is). What I think I need to do is weight lifting in order to strengthen the knee again.

  5. sal says:

I hear ya about insurance…I had to pay the first $1,500.00 of my foot surgery! There went my plans for a new bike!!

I have a friend who was having knee pain with running …. MRI showed a small tear……

  6. Barb says:

Yep- sounds like your thermostat needs to be replaced. I don’t know how much they cost, but the newer ones do some cool stuff.

  7. Martha says:

Spring for a programable thremostat…totally worth the money and easy to instal.

I finally put the heat on this morning, not for me of course, but Nibbles was shivering so much I couldn’t stand it. Wonder how she’s going to do this weekend camping??

  8. Gentri says:

Life’s a bitch then you die, punk! It’s easy to bitch even when things are actually good… i.e. got a job, got insurance, got a house, got a car… got food, shelter, clothing… but really, what is it/has it ever gotten you/us?

Driving home yesterday my heat gauge on truck pegs in the red… I check coolant… 0… currently awaiting the “fixing this will cost you $$$$” call…. joy.

If the thermostat is old replace it with an electronic one. Easy fix, and you can program them to save you $$$… buy a honeywell, they are rated as the best about $60 bucks, and you’ll recover that cost quickly.

Must be something in the air however… weird things have been cropping up…

  9. Gentri says:

What, no “Paris Hilton chihuahua” fall collection sweaters in Nibbles closet yet?

FYI Martha, just bought Andy one of these to help with his joints… only works when they are on it, might be good for Nibbles (or the basset) and for your heating bill:

    Okay, I’m confused. “Tigger?”

  13. Think “Winnie the Pooh.” I am trying to be more like Tigger and less like Eeyore.

  14. My thermostat is programmable, it just loses its mind these days. Besides, one of the buttons is really finicky so I probably will replace it. Now if I could only find the time…. and also find out how the current one is being powered…

  15. Steve says:

Did you remember to replace the batteries in the thermostat? And since switching from heat to off to heat again woke it up, maybe it was an operator error- or maybe a bad switch.

And thanks for the picture of our eagle. In its day, it was the largest bronze casting ever made.

  16. I’ve never been able to find a battery compartment in this thermostat. I guarantee that it wasn’t operator error (at least this time). I’m going to replace the thermostat soon, some of its buttons are beginning to stick as well.
