Paulie — look on the bright side, at least you didn’t get married to someone who also had a fixer-upper-house (sorry Bren) You’ve also got TONS of space, which IMHO is worth putting some money into plumbing-wise. When the market does come back (fingers crossed), then a house with space ITP will sell before a house w/o space. I would kill for more space!

I think I heard somwhere recently that the American Dream of owning a house has been replaced by renting a house. As a result, being a landlord will likely be a growth industry.

Don’t cancel your vacation plans…that will make you even more miserable. Just figure out a way to do it on a tighter budget!

If you would just fix the dang plumbing…….you could save money by not having to eat out all the time………

I’m considering canceling my Chicago/Milwaukee vacation in order to save some money.

I’m considering the sell “as is” option, but the housing market being what it is…. And I can’t afford to lose a lot of money on the sale of this house either because it’s not like I’m made of money or anything. Fiscally speaking if the sales price of the house costs me, oh let’s say $20k, then it’s cheaper to fix what ails the house and live there.

Time will tell. I’m downsizing office to cubicle now, perhaps that will spur me on to downsize from house to something smaller.

In my opinion condos in Atlanta are not a good decision. There is a huge glut on the market now, prices haven’t dropped all that much, there is the condo association fee on top of mortgage and taxes, and I think selling a condo will be problematic in the future. I’m much more likely to rent again… at least until I figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

Paulie, now is NOT the time to be making any rash decisions about houses. Unless they have uncovered a toxic waste dump or a tunnel used by illegal aliens, it can be fixed and you can be happy.
