Finalleh!

Published by Paulie [eatl/ga] on July 2, 2009 06:40 am under My Daily Life

It took me six days to finally feel like I was on vacation. It’s almost a pity that it all comes to an end tomorrow.

Take Me Back Out To The Ball Game
I was feeling well enough to force myself out into the perfect weather for a morning walkabout. My travels took me until noon at which time I returned to Earls for some lunch, mostly because it was one of the few places open on Canada Day.

Even though things around the hotel were not as crazy during the day time as I expected I didn’t head out the to the horse racing track because the racing started at 1pm an there was no way that I’d be able to eat lunch and then make the drive in time.

My alternative was a 4pm Winnipeg Goldeyes game, which fit well into my schedule as well as my desire to leave the car parked. I scored another great ticket for a game, although not nearly as great as the seat I had on Sunday. So, after about five innings I got up and walked around the stadium. Unfortunately for the locals the Goldeyes gave up five runs in the eight inning, a half inning after they hit two home runs to take a two-run lead.

ITP Flickr Pic
Along my walkabout yesterday I came upon this desk sitting in a parking lot, facing this graffiti. It was rather surreal — so I had to take a photo.
And Now For Something Completely Different
I took about sixty photos on my walk, most of which were rather bland shots that’ll most likely never see the light of day (or screen as the case may be).

What’s Sad About This Trip Is That I’ve Come To Accept Failure
Last night I was pooped after the baseball game. Knowing that sunset in this part of the world at this time of year would mean that the Canada Day fireworks would be occurring a few hours later, I headed to the hotel room to recharge my body’s battery. I feel asleep only to wake up again at 11:30pm to the sound of the fireworks ending.

At least I’ll get another chance at fireworks in a few days, right?

I’m Assuming That Tomorrow Will Be A Really Short Blog
Not only will I be traveling tomorrow, I assume that most of you will be getting the day off to compensate for Independence Day falling on Saturday this year.

Going out to eat for you is way too convenient both at work and home. I think if you cut down on that, you will see an improvement in your waste line…

I had 15 exchange students and parents over at my house for a cookout before a Braves game a few weeks ago. I went and got the tickets (2 tkts for $22) and saved over $48 bucks in SERVICE FEES just by walking down to the Braves ticket counter… just a fucking rip off, especially with the prevalance bar codes and home printers this is a joke.

Rolling Stone mag had an awesome then/now comparison of how much % wise the price of tickets has been increased, it was almost shocking, and reminded me why the only show I have seen in a few years was Jimmy Buffett this spring!

You are right about 1 week being just enough to decompress. Best vacation I ever took was 3 weeks long to Australia… 1st week to decompress, 2nd/3rd to ENJOY, last part of 3rd week to freak out about all the sh*t waiting for me to do once I got home!

…. that’s “waist line” to those of us in SE Amerikuuh! USA, USA, USA!

/or something like that… wishes he could edit post

Gentri, you are right about the food. Eating out is devilish because you don’t get to control the ingredients and nine times out of ten the portion served is large enough to feed at least two people sensibly.

I’m the only one who can edit comments… that’s just the way Wordpress works. Normally I let everyone’s comments live “as is” so that I’m not labeled as one who is a content overlord. I do correct my own spelling/grammar mistakes though (when I notice them). It’s good to be the king!

We rarely eat out, maybe once on the weekend. Both of us watch what we eat pretty closely, with the exception of Jerry’s addiction to super hot chicken wings, and it really hard to do that eating out. One trick I have is I ask for a to go box right away and pack half the meal away before I even start to eat (or I just give it to Jerry, he’s a human garbage disposal, I hate him).

You want to talk about failure? You should have seen me try to do a plank pike-up on a stability ball last night :-) it must have been beyound comical, especially when I fell off the ball. I’m pretty sure I heard Nibbles laughing.

I went to watch horse racing once in Seattle…terrible night. A rider and horse went down, it seemed pretty bad (they brought out that crime/accident sceen white curtain)…I started crying and freaking out, I doubt I’ll make it back to a track again.

Have a great 4th of July weekend, I’ll be beach bound this time tomorrow. We are heading to Charleston for a little fun in the sun and a lot of drinking.

I may or may not be going up to a cabin in Murphy, NC to visit an old hashing buddy Cheese Spread & her hubby. But – if Allan has to work down at that parking garage all day & night today, he said he won’t want to go, & will want to just chill. So, if we don’t go, we will be looking for swimming pools to visit……

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] on July 2nd, 2009 @ 09:55

Can’t help you with the pool so I hope that you get to make it to NC.

Okay, off to experience my last full day in Winnipeg. Talk at you all later…

  7. Sal on July 2nd, 2009 @ 10:16

Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July. We’ll be running the 40th annual Peachtree Road Race, then drinking beer/naps/drinking beer/eating/more beer/illegal fireworks/beer….
