Another Boring Day In The Neighborhood — Whew.

These days I’m kinda happy to answer “Nothing.” when posed with the question “What’s new?”

One Week Later — Why Have I Not Been Contacted
At 1pm today I will be exactly one-week into my post-burglary life. Last Friday I called the police department and was instructed that once someone was assigned to my case he/she would contact me. I’m still waiting and wondering why no one has called. I guess that I’ll be pinging them today to find out what the heck is happening.

Sum Of This And Sum Of That
Yesterday I joined a handful of coworkers for a dim sum lunch at a restaurant at which I’ve never eaten. The restaurant we chose yesterday was called China Delight (a name which was highly criticized by one of my companions) and is located on Chamblee Tucker road, across the road from Peachtree Dekalb Airport.

I thought that the dim sum there was quite tasty. My coworker David — the one who didn’t like the name — ordered a slew of food using his mastery of Chinese. The highlight (or lowlight depending on the point of view) was me using my chopsticks to open a banana leaf which covered a bundle of sticky rice. I was informed later by David, as well as the restaurant’s owner, that it would have been much easier (and perhaps preferred) if I had flipped the bundle on its back and opened up the bundle instead of hacking through the top side. Stupid me…

Nothing today. My camera has been locked in a case since the burglary and I’ve not had the opportunity to reconfigure my Lightroom setup since either. Blah!

With Laundry Nights Like This, I May Never Use My Machines Again
With my dirty laundry packed in the car I headed straight for dinner and laundry after work last night. As I mentioned yesterday, my laundromat (lavenderia) of choice was the one on Buford Highway next door to Lee’s Bakery.

When I arrived the always-clean laundromat was fairly empty so I claimed three washing machines and walked into Lee’s for my grilled pork sandwich. The sandwich, which cost me all of $3.21, was predictably delicious and by the time I had completed eating it had to wait another five minutes for the wash to complete. As I did the last time I performed my laundry magic I chose to do my drying at the laundromat as well. As an added bonus one of my lavenderia compadres kept the jamming Mexican music pumping from the jukebox and a good time was had by all.

By the time my clothes were folded and packed in the car it was nearly 8pm so I was able to commute home with few frustrations.

RealiTV Update : Top Chef Masters
While I have not been blogging much about it, I have been religiously watching and enjoying, Top Chef Masters (and for those who are fans of the genre Top Chef returns on August 19th). As of last night the competition was down to the Final Five.

What has really been separating this series from its original version is that each of the cheftestants can really cook, even if he/she hasn’t worked the line in many years. It is for that reason that make slip ups like making a cheese soup with burger bites when competing in the Quick Fire Burger Challenge unusual.

For last night’s Elimination Challenge the cheftestants had to prepare a five-course lunch for the incredible adorable Zooey Deschanel. Of course that there had to be a catch, Deschanel is a vegan, who is also allergic to wheat and soy. YIKES! Let me say that as much lust as I’ve had for Deschanel cooking for her would be a complete nightmare. I guess that I’m luck that Ben Gibbard got to her before I could. 😉

The cheftestants managed to work their skills to bring a variety of good vegan food to Deschanel and her nineteen guests. Unfortunately for Art Smith, he committed the Top Chef faux pas by selecting dessert and wound up losing the night.

Zooey Deschanel? Even her name sounds high maintenance. What a PITA to try to cook for. I rarely do this but I got sucked into Dinner: Impossible last night. They were cooking for Barbie’s 50th birthday party, so all the food had to be ‘Barbie size’, so again PITA for them.

I ride by China Delight when I do the MARTA/Bike commute. The place doesn’t look like much but sounds like I should check it out sometime. I haven’t had dim sum since the last time I had it with you.

DeKalb PD never called me after my car was broken into, I didn’t bother to call them, I have a report from Homeland Security and I paid out of pocket for repairs anyway…

  2. If you can get a group for dim sum I suggest you give it a try. I think out bill came out to $11 per person (without tip) and I was quite satisfied.

The biggest reason that I tried to call the police is that I wanted to report the serial number of the computer stolen, just in case it ever showed up.

And where is everyone today? With Twitter down and Facebook having issues I suppose that people are actually working? 😉

I wouldn’t expect APD to be calling. I’m suprised they even took prints. The 2 times the Bluebird estate was broken into, all I got was the police report and the name of the detective assigned to the case. I’m sure I was one of several dozen that day.

  4. Steve, I never knew that you were broken into while there. I’m saddened to say that I’m not surprised (the same has been said for my neighborhood).

All I received last Thursday was a case number scratched onto a piece of paper that I gave one of the officers.

  5. Barb says:

Don’t you watch the news? we don’t have enough cops….. & we are a city under seige? (channel46 calls it that). But, I’m sure ppwk for small $$ amount break-ins is at the bottom of the priority pile unfortunately.

you had an all Asian day food wise yesterday, what is the theme today?

  6. While I never expected constant communication it would be nice to know that my case has at least been looked at and filed by someone.

So far I’ve eaten a power bar and peanuts. I guess today’s theme is food starting with the letter ‘P’. Tune in tomorrow to see if I’ve eaten pizza and/or pierogies.

In other news : Yesterday I received my City of Atlanta property tax bill — $1500 of which will be going to schools, $1500 goes elsewhere. Ugh. Keep in mind I also pay taxes to Dekalb County since I’m CoA/Dekalb. Next year we are supposed to be taxed at a higher rate. Must. Sell. House.

  7. Barb says:

What? Twitter is down & FB is having issues? What is half the world going to do today? I’ve actually had work to do this morning, I hate when that happens.

  8. Both sites are having bad days. This might be the most productive workday this country has seen in some time.

  9. bob says:

Busy day here too. 2 virus outbreaks in one week is not good for my stress level. Especially when our CIO gets infected.
