Some Days I Wish This Blog Would Write Itself

I’ve a touch of writer’s block today.

I Am Ready For The Weekend
It’s another incredibly busy weekend for me; I’ll fix that window — some day.

Yes Barb, the bike is with me and I want to ride! Let me know when and where to meet.

Tomorrow I’ll be pulling a long one including breakfast with friend, mid-day photography, and a dinner with a different group of friends. Sadly, I’ll not be able to make it to Piedmont Park to try and freeload a little Paul McCartney action.

And Sunday (Sunday, SUNDAY!) is Black Sheep Hash #500!!! Keep in mind that Black Sheep only hashes every other Sunday, so the first one occurred nearly one thousand Sundays ago (hashers are not real good on exact statistics — although Black Sheep Founders Day always occurs on March 11th). I’m sure the founders of Black Sheep never envisioned the day when hash #500 would happen.

Boats Passing In The Yard
Someone needs to practice his/her parking skills. And as you’ll read about next, someone needs to practice his photography skills.

The Quest For “Tack Sharp”
If I have one constant complaint about my photography it’s that my photos are not “tack sharp” — so sharp that there is no unintentional blur. I can only blame myself because tack sharp photos have been taken with identical cameras and lenses, hell lesser cameras and lenses, for years.

I understand the guidelines for sharp photography

  • Have a sturdy stance
  • Hold the camera close to the body, left hand supporting the lens
  • Make sure the shutter speed is no slower than the inverse of the focal length
  • Breathe out, then shoot
  • Depress the shutter smoothly as if pulling the trigger of a gun

It’s just that I am still not getting my desired results. Dangen!

  1. Barb says:

So, is Black Sheep trying to keep the crowd down by NOT posting a start? Not that I’m going, I’ve got this damn beer meister job for Wheelhopper. At least it is a pool ending for me…….

Riding tonight – Bob is out (dinner scheduled with the in-laws) so if you don’t mind, come to Marietta. If you don’t remember where I live, I’ll email you directions. Maybe, just maybe, we can have a dive bar beer stop on the ride too. We can cook at home (I know you don’t get too many home cooked meals anymore) or Tasty China. It’s your call. And – I’ve been feeling pretty crappy this week – so I’ll help your ego, you will kick my ass biking. Now Allan won’t let you, but that is another story.

  2. I noticed that no start has been posted yet too. I was going to call them out on that, but didn’t.

I don’t mind driving to Marietta. I probably have your address, but you probably should send it to me to be sure. I can do dinner in or dinner out, I’ll let you decide. Shall I bring a bottle of wine with me? I have a bottle of red readily available. πŸ˜‰

  3. Barb says:

Wine is always good, whether we stay in or go out. But – don’t go out of your way to get it – we’ve got plenty, and of course plenty of cold beer (even some New Belgium beers that AREN’T sold in GA).

BTW – any other ITP readers, you are more than welcome to join us tonight too….. riding or dinner or both.

and Paulie – remind me to give you your Buttoneer back.

and Steve – I’ve got your bike stand at my house, I’ll bring it to Debbie on 8/29, TJ said he isn’t sure if there is any Skyline to go with it πŸ˜‰
(he delivered the stand, but no Skyline). I guess I have to go to East Cobb to get that for us (& you).

  4. There is a possibility that there may be a bottle stashed in my office. πŸ˜‰

I keep forgetting to ask about if the Buttoneer worked for you. I’ll ask tonight.

  5. Steve says:

Barb, that will be just in time as I’m getting the mancave sorted out and arranged. Debbies tack room is finished and she is getting everything set up.
As far as Skyline.. we just might have to road trip and get it!

OK ITP readers, here is your mission. Dad needs to replace his car (since he bounced it off the guardrail). It can’t be too small, too low or too sporty!! I was thinking of a Honda CRV. Any other suggestions?

    -FP

  6. bob says:

Sorry I can’t make the ride tonight, dinner with the in-laws.

Steve, how about a Honda Element? Easy to get in and out of and not too small.

  7. Barb says:

    Steve – new or used?
I’ve had a CRV for 11 years now…… and knock on wood, still running strong with no issues besides normal wear & tear stuff.
Not that cheap though these days, they have good resale value. Is he an American car kind of guy, or doesn’t care? There are plenty of the crossover types of cars now to pick from.

  8. Steve says:

Debbie and I decided long ago that Honda made the Element from the newly discovered Butt-ugly-um. No.

And the reality is that we have to pick, er, I mean he has to pick something we might want to drive someday… in other words, no Pa Pa cars.

    -FP

  9. Steve says:

I’m sure he will write a check… and I doubt he wants used. I was thinking not too big, as he frequently uses the braile method to park. And my sister joked a LOUD GPS (since he is hard of hearing)

His last car was a ’01 Chrysler Sebring.. a rocket! Seriously.

  10. Barb says:

hey Paulie- I just thought if this – Allan might be able to figure out why your knee is hurting too – he’s pretty good at figuring out if everything is aligned correctly.

  11. Steve says:

Have you ridden since your knee gave you problems?

  12. Martha says:

I have to agree with Steve on the Element, not only are they fugly, but I didn’t like the way it drives either. I’ve had the Escape, going on 9 years, with few problems and minimal preventive maintenance.

I don’t have the actual start for BS but it will be one Old National Highway, south side of town…the Hare is being reminded now, he needs to post the start. I’m going to try to make it.

Barb, we are heading to Red Top this afternoon, we will be coming back through Cobb but too early for dinner.

  13. bob says:

I like the uglyness of the element, at least it sticks out from a crowd.

So my next suggestion to you Steve is just get it over with and get a Buick πŸ™‚

  14. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I tightened my pedal last week and my knee felt good, as in felt no pain. My knee is not in constant pain but some times I push to get out of a chair, or twist it oddly and it hurts.

This auto talk interests me because some day I may be in the market fir a vehicle which can allow me to store the bike inside standining up.

  15. Barb says:

holy shit – I just looked it up, Buick only makes 3 cars now. looks likethe Enclave will have to be it.

  16. Barb says:

Martha – if you guys end up staying up there at Red Top longer, call us, maybe you can stop for a beer or something.

  17. Martha says:

I can fit my bike in the back of the Escape without taking off the front wheel, but not standing up. If I take the front wheel off, it stands up just fine.

note: I own a really small bike (42 cm)

Allan is great, I likes riding with him the other night, he helped my form quite a bit.

  18. Debbie says:

Dad has specifically requested a Honda and when Dad has an opinion… well then that’s what it’s gonna be!! πŸ˜‰ I suggested the Pilot, but Steve doesn’t think he’ll find that sporty enough. Oy.

    Woohoo for the weekend!

  19. Barb says:

BTW – all your bike geeks – the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike ride is tomorrow in Colorado. Think Lance has any chance to actually win this year against the reigning champ Dave Wiens?

  20. I don’t think that Lance will win. I have a feeling that Wiens will be a little more reckless and retain his crown.

  21. Barb says:

did you see the Leadville results? Holy Cow is all I can say.

  22. I saw the results yesterday morning and was stunned. We chatted about it on trail yesterday.

  23. buttoneer says:

Not to hijack the thread, but I saw someone that said they had actually used the buttoneer. Does it really work?
