Big day for numerologists and today also marks the tenth anniversary of the “All Guys” hash on 9-9-99. The women also had a “Chicks No Dicks” hash that day and have managed to have one on the appropriate day of every year since.
Today also marks the day that the Beatles’ music “should” be available digitally via iTunes, and “Rock Band: Beatles” is released. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Beatles’ music as much as the next forty+ year-old person out there, but I find it hard to believe that people are getting excited for music that is 40-45 years old even if it has been digitally remastered.
Hell’s Kitchen, I Can’t Quit You!
Last night I went over to ITP-Reader Betsy’s house to drink some wine and eat some chicken wings as we watched Hell’s Kitchen. I know, last week I officially quit watching the show, but I’m drawn to it like a moth to a light. Last night’s episode was even the one in which Andy slices his fingers using a mandolin, bringing back horrible memories of my knife incident a few years ago.
As Hell’s Kitchen episodes go this one wasn’t too bad. I happily patted myself on the back when I correctly predicted that Suzanne was not going to get kicked off the show, but rather assigned to the men’s team once Andy was booted. Oh Hell’s Kitchen, you’re so predictable.
Overall the night was a blast, and included a cameo from ITP-Reader Terri, who stopped in on her way to join her Stephen Hawking’s Football Boots trivia team.
The Great GPS Conundrum
I’m attached to Jill the GPS. But when I mistakenly downloaded and lost the one free map update download that Garmin bestowed upon me I realized that my mid-life crisis might involve trading her in for a new model.
One problem I am having is that Amazon charges $70+ dollars for the map update. For an additional $90+ I can get the map update, a brand new GPS, and a new suction cup holder to replace the one that I broke a couple of years ago.
The other problem that current models being sold by Garmin don’t seem to have the battery life or other features that Jill possesses — they no longer make them like the old gal.
What to do? What to do. For now I think the answer is wait and thinking about it some more.
ITP Flickr Pic
It’s not much of a photo, but at least it’s a photo.
This was a papaya bubble tea that I purchased at the restaurant at which I ate yesterday. I was in the mood for something sweet after eating and did this ever satisfy my sweet-tooth.
If You Were A Fan of The Get Up Kids, You Can Thank Me In The Comments
Yesterday I read that The Get Up Kids have reunited and are touring this Fall. A few years ago I blogged about the disappointment I felt upon hearing of the band’s split so I was very pleased to read this bit of news.
Even better, the band will be playing in Atlanta. On Veteran’s Day (that’s November 11th, or 11/11, for those of you who are calendar-challenged) The Get Up Kids will be performing at Masquerade. It is on my calendar and I will be in attendance.
Tonight Somebody’s Gonna Slip Me The Sausage
Get your mind out of the gutter you Schweinhünd!
Tonight I’ll be loitering at George’s Bar in Virginia-Highland with the express purpose of getting some homemade andouille sausage that will be incorporated into the andouille grits cakes that I’m making for this weekend’s Lake Hartwell Black Sheep Hash Campout.
It’s hard for me to believe that it’s already Lake Hartwell Campout time, but then it’s also hard for me to believe that Black Sheep
#500 has happened, Labor Day has passed, and that I’ve not fixed any of the major issues with my house.

I really need to find something to do on Tuesday nights. The TV selection is just aweful!! I guess I could use that time to be productive, read a book, something, right?
Doesn’t that fancy Iphone have a GPS? I keep considering getting one, but Jerry’s blackberry has a GPS application that seems to work well. My phone also has the option but it cost $9.95 a month? No way. Its cheaper to just drive around until I find where I need to go.
Speaking of buying new stuff and Lake Hartwell. I need a new flashlight, mine finally gave up the ghost. I love the one I had, just don’t know where it came from. Anyone have suggestions? I’d like it to be small, but bright and run on either AA or AAA batteries.
PS I can’t wait until Friday!!
The iPhone does have mapping capabilities. My version has fake-GPS for which it uses celltower triangulation, but the problem is that it doesn’t provide spoken turn-by-turn directions and stops the phone from being used as a phone.
The newer iPhones can also get a Tom Tom GPS but that’s like $100 bucks. Meh.
Oh look! Amazon is selling a refurbished Garmin 265W/265WT for $165 as its current “Lightning Deal.”
There are soooo many LED flashlights available these days. Just run up to Target or REI and you should be able to find something you like.
I can’t wait either. I’m hoping for great weather and that I get all my preparations done in time. I’ll be working a half-day Friday in an effort to beat traffic up there. Hey don’t laugh, I’m trying to be optimistic.
Oh, and I can’t help you out with tv other than suggest doing like I do (get a Netflix account) or do what Betsy mentioned last night (watch Top Chef on Hulu).
I’m back from CO – and Paulie – Invihash is more fun, InterAm was just way too many people. Woodland Park sounds like it will be pretty awesome.
2 weeks and the new TV season is starting – I haven’t paid any attention to what is cancelled, what is new, but there will have to be something good on Tuesdays – don’t ya think?
No Lake Hartwell for us this weekend, Allan is working Saturday, and I’m sure I’ll come up with something to do. (the house is a disaster after unloading the truck last night)
I’m going to try to get to the All Chicks hash tonight – since I was a co-hare at 9/9/99, I’m thinking that will deserve a down down of some sort.
With the exception of RealiTV and sports I’ve given up on most television, the shows just don’t interest me that much any more.
I figured you and Allan would be skipping Hartwell given that you just got back from Colorado. My impression of InterAmericas is that it’s too large for my tastes. Keep in mind that I’m someone who doesn’t like to eat lunch with any group larger than seven because after that you can’t interact with all involved.
You probably already know about this one, but in case not, I ran across an impressive stone hearth the other day in Stone Mountain Park that seems definitely worth a visit. It’s on the Cherokee hiking trail just southwest of the mountain between the railroad tracks and the kid’s playground/loop road. If you’re feeling ambitious and frugal you could skip the park’s exhorbitant $7 car fee, park in downtown Stone Mountain and walk in along the Path fairly easily.
I keep forgetting about that one Brenan, thanks for reminding me. Also, I’ve done the “park in the village and walk/ride into the park” before as I tend to be frugal. Actually, I do it more out of defiance because I contend that Stone Mountain should be a part of Georgia’s State Park system, but it’s not.
welcome back Barb, and to answer your text, no I didn’t sign up for 2011, I can’t plan that far ahead. We will miss you at Hartwell, I’m still trying to convince Jerry to come up with me on Friday. I hope he gets drunk enough and has a good time.
I have netflix, I cut back to just one movie at a time because I had Pineapple Express for 5 weeks. Never did watch the whole thing. I watched the one I had (Torchwood: Children of Earth) on Monday, I hope Part II gets here and I have time to watch it before I leave Friday. I’ve been having some serious BBC/SciFi withdrawls.
I’ve been thinking about getting a bigger monitor for my computer and getting a PC TV Tuner. Its football season and it will be the only way I can watch something else when Jerry is over.
Oh that reminds me I saw two hearths in Grant Park (or maybe Peoplestown) when I was running Sunday. Looks like the house burned down around them. They aren’t pretty (or even interesting looking) but I just thought I would mention them.
You just reminded me of two things.
1) I was going to blog today about sending back “Ray” after finally deciding that I’ll never watch it. According to Netflix it’s been in my possession since April 1st.
2) All free-standing hearths are fair game. Two of the hearths that inspired the project, although neither was captured by me, were of the “house burned down around it” variety.
we saw a few hearths on the drive, but couldn’t even tell you know what states they were in.
Martha (& everyone) – sign up now for Savannah for the lower price, and sell it later if you decide not to go….. come on, you can always ignore lots of the hash stuff (like I did this year, I did no running trails, & did zero down downs) and just have a nice vacation.
Oh sure, now I’ll have to try and retrace your route. 🙂
I’ll consider signing up for Savannah.
it is an easy (& boring) route – all Interstates……… thank God for books on CD. No one can ever tell me again that Iowa is a boring state, Kansas definitely wins for flat boredom.
Okay, well the hearths are on Atlanta Ave, between Grant Park and Turner Field.
I’ve done the same thing with Netflix more times than I’d like to admitt. Friday night use to be my movie watching night. Since I’ve been dating Jerry, I haven’t been watching as much.
Just saw that Apple is dropping prices on most of its Ipods ($20-$120, everything but the shuffle)…I just checked the website, the must be updating prices right now. This may be reason enough to pull the trigger for a new nano.
Thanks.
I’ve been bad about watching movies so Netflix should love me. On the other hand I am chewing through these Michael Palin series so Netflix may hate me.
I heard about Apple’s price changes after posting. If there is a certain non-iPod Touch model you want then I suggest not waiting. Rumor has it that Apple is culling the iPod line.
We came in first last night!!! Our collective knowledge of Dom Deluise/ Burt Reynolds vehicles lead us to victory…
BTW- we joined forces with another team…I can’t remember the entire name, but it was something like “The Folks at the Dartboard All Had Sex in the Bathroom, Just Not with Each Other”…hmmm.
Well done! I hope by joining forces you didn’t have to surrender too much of the spoils.
We did win a free round of shots ;)!
I think Steve is at the Tour de MO too.
