Tomorrow Is (American) Thanksgiving? How’d That Happen?

While I seriously can’t wait to put 2009 behind me I do find it somewhat surreal to realize that tomorrow is Thanksgiving. What happened to September, October, and most of November? Did I happen to spend them all sitting in traffic?

Note To Self: Sitting In Shitty Traffic >> Eating Shitty Fast Food
After deciding to abort “Laundry Night” because there was more red on the traffic map than I’ve seen in some time I decided to try and wait it out at the office. I had considered hoofing it over to Taco Mac for a few beers, and should’ve followed up on that.

Sometime around 7:30pm I ventured to my car for the commute home. Since THE Rain of ’09 Peachtree Dunwoody Road has been closed at the Nancy Creek bridge, so my only real surface street option is Ashford Dunwoody Road south. Apparently that is the only option for many commuters. Traffic was nearly non-existent…. until I made it to Marist when things came to a virtual standstill. After estimating that it would be now fewer than thirty minutes to migrate toward my destination I pulled a fast one and pulled off to get dinner.

My first choice was Mexican. Apparently that was the first choice of many as the place was jam packed. Not wanting to wait a long time to get dinner, I decided for plan “B”. I should have picked Plan “C” which was to walk across the street and one block to better restaurants, but no, I decided to eat at one of the fast food establishments in the shopping center in which I was parked.

  • McDonald’s? Not bloody likely!
  • China Wok? More like China Yuck!
  • Jersey Mike’s Subs? How bad could it be?

Answer: Very.

I reminded myself why I avoid fast food. No, Jersey Mike’s Subs reminded me why I avoid fast food.

Last night I did a little reading and discovered what I had misconfigured. I’m hoping to get a little time this long weekend to make new attempts at product shots.

The Monitor I Want Dropped $10! How’d That Happen?
Remember my lament that I’d have to pay $10 to ship the monitor I wanted to buy? I just went on to Newegg and noticed that the sales price has dropped $10. W00t! I think “Santa” may be “bringing” Paulie a new monitor this Christmas. I’ve been a very good boy who has had a lot of shit dropped on him this year, I think I “deserve” it. 😉

Another Birthday Wish? How’d That Happen?
I figure that if I can meet 366 people there is a chance that each day I write this blog I can wish someone a happy birthday.

Today’s birthday greetings go out to one of my newest friends, John, better known in many circles as “Ham With Cam.” While I don’t understand his fascinations with ham radios, I do get his love for photography.

Hope yours is a great one, Ham.

Good Luck My Running Friends
While I won’t be toiling along the 13.1 mile course of the Atlanta Half Marathon with you this year I do plan on being out at the end drinking beers and taking photos. The weather tomorrow is supposed to be seasonably cold, but clear. This is better weather for running than spectating, but I’ll be out there nonetheless.

I urge any of you ITP-Readers to come out, say hello, and have some fun. I’ll be the guy with the NY Mets wool cap and blue with red trim jacket on. Oh, I’ll also be holding a Nikon camera…. and probably a beer.

I Don’t Have To Work Friday? How’d That Happen?
For the first time in ten years I have Friday off as an official paid holiday. Sure, I’ll write a blog. Come back and join me, won’t you?

  1. Sal says:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Hope to see some of you out there tomorrow morning.

  2. Barb says:

okay – I need to know, what was wrong with Jersey Mike’s? I like their subs….. much better than Subway or Blimpie (are those even still around?)

I’ll probably be sleeping tomorrow morning – sorry – I’ll cheer from my warm bed.

  3. The bread I had was far from fresh and the sandwich (Italian something or other) became a complete mess as I ate it.

When it comes to eating “fast food” sandwiches I prefer Quiznos or Jimmy Johns.

  4. Barb says:

okay – I only go to sandwich shops at lunch, I guess it would be possible the bread isn’t as fresh at night. I like Quizno’s too, but that is because they have broccoli cheese soup as well as good (though pricy) sandwiches.
where is Jimmy john’s? Never heard of that place.

  5. Jimmy Johns is a chain (http://www.jimmyjohns.com/). According to their store locator it looks like the closest one around these parts is ITP on Roswell Rd. (http://www.jimmyjohns.com/findAJJs/map.aspx?zip=30346)

  6. bob says:

Is Jersey Mike’s really considered a “fast food” restaurant? I thought “fast food” was only pre cooked, pre packaged food. Jersey Mike’s slices the sandwich meat when you order so wouldn’t they be more of a sub shop?

I’m looking forward to this 4 day weekend, I REALLY need some time away from work. Cold beers tomorrow morning sounds like a nice way to start it too. Do you know if the Beebe’s are going to the race end party?

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I guess that I consider any place where I order at a counter andwhat for my food “fast food.”

Not sure of the Beebes’ plans for tomorrow.

  8. Jenka says:

Not running the race, but will run a lengthy run around the neighborhood tomorrow morning! Thinking I’ll steer clear of Turner Field, it gets so crowded. Try not to freeze, Paulie!

  9. Barb says:

hmmm – ordering at a counter is a lot of restaurants these days that I don’t consider fast food. Some day I’ll have to check out Jimmy Johns.

Well – we bought a turkey fryer yesterday, so it will be multiple fried turkey day at the firehouse. Not my traditional holiday plans – but it should be interesting, and I haven’t really met most of Allan’s crew, so that will be nice to put faces with the names I hear.

Too bad the marathon route doesn’t go down Roswell Rd in Buckhead, if it did, I’d tell Allan to go out & cheer.

  10. Curious, which counter-ordering places do you not consider to be fast food? What do you consider to be fast food then?

At least the firemen have the skills to put out any fires they start with a turkey fryer. 🙂

  11. Barb says:

Lots of the mexican/taco places that I think are pretty pricy for a taco you order at a counter. Some pizza places you order at a counter. I’ll see what else I can think of.
I consider fast food any place with a drive thru. 😉

They try not to have a fire in their own fire house, they would get shit forever from all the other houses. (it has happened before at some houses, usually a kitchen fire when they are cooking dinner & get a call & forget to shut everything off)

  12. Steve says:

Paulie, since you have off Friday, maybe we should go ride? Early- since I have an engagement in the afternoon.

  13. Steve, I think I’m going to be a lazy bum and pass on a Friday ride. Thanks for the offer, though.
