A Lot Of Good Things, Except For No Photo

What a wonderfully sunny morning in Atlanta. No? That’s what the weatherman had predicted all week long! WTF?

Reacquainting Myself With The Drapers
Believe it or not, I never watched any of the third season of Mad Men. I have them all recorded on my Dish Network DVR, but I just never got around to watching them.

Last night I decided to take the plunge and reacquaint myself with the entire series by watching all three seasons before season four starts. There are about thirty-eight episodes, so if I average about two episodes a night I should be caught up by my birthday (July 22nd for those of you who care), just in time for the premiere of season four on July 25th.

I should’ve predicted that I’d have a photo today, then people would understand why I don’t.

Viva La France!
Tomorrow my World Cup, le Tour de France, begins! Nearly each day during the next three weeks my attention and imagination will be tuned in to the men touring France (and other locales) on their bicycles.

Here are the stages for this year’s race:
You Can Keep Your World Cup

Speaking of bicycles, I think I’ll be mounting mine a few times this long weekend (weather permitting of course) in order to start working on my goal of 150 miles this month. I need to ramp up my riding so I can be ready for the longer rides this Fall.

Anyone Running The Peachtree?
There was a day when I wouldn’t consider missing the Peachtree Road Race 10k. In 1996 it was the first organized race I ever entered (thanks to the girl who broke up with me a week before the race). Those days ended a long time ago when I damaged my knee running my one and only road marathon in 2000 and substitituted the Atlanta Hash‘s Peachtree Pub Crawl in its place.

Due to a condition known as “Being completely drunk by 10am” I gave up on the Peachtree Pub Crawl a handful of years ago and have taken to taking photos at the race instead. Photography is my plan again this year, and if you are running the race let me know from which group you’ll start and I’ll try to keep an eye out for you.

Everyone watch for Allan’s brother Kevin on the BMC mechanic team – he doesn’t really look like Allan, he’s tall & skinny.

No Peachtree for us, Allan gets off work at 0700 7/4, and he will high tail it out of Buckhead. Luckily the firehouse is on Roswell Rd – so he can get out to the west. I wonder if they will stage the trucks further away, just in case of calls.

I plan to do a ride in the Roswell area Saturday morning (anywhere from 25-40 miles – we will decide by the heat & humidity probably), not sure what is on the riding agenda for Sunday & Monday. Where are you riding?

  2. I’m open to ride anywhere Saturday; I’d like to do 40ish. I’ll be “resting” on Sunday. I plan to ride to Stone Mountain and back on Monday morning so I can be rested for Black Sheep which will happen at 5pm on MONDAY.

Looking forward to TDF! Hopefully it will be a good one.

I may be going up north early Monday morning to ride 3 gaps if anybody is interested.

  4. I don’t think that I’m ready to tackle the gaps yet. Actually, I think I am but want to save some energy for Black Sheep that night.

  5. Barb says:

Bob – which 3 Gaps, and where are you parking, who are you going with? I know I’m not ready for that, but hell, you just never know……..
Probably not, we are going to watch the fireworks at Roswell Country Club & probably be drinking. But again, you just never know.

We are considering going to Black Sheep/Moonlight – all depends on if we go to Lake Allatoona or not.

Looks like 5 of us riding, you know Matt and Patrick, and 2 more people I work with. Meeting at the Hiker Hostel just south of the rock pile probably around 8:30ish. Ride from there and do Neals, Wolfpen, and Woody’s, 37 mile loop.

  7. Barb says:

That’s only 37 miles? I guess that is right, without the extra back to the school that we did for the official 3 Gap. I’ll let Allan know, we will text you or something if we/he actually might show.

Saunter over to where the Fur Bus is camped out for the Peachtree. Very entertaining characters that are fun and intoxicating. @furbus will tell you where they be. Telly Ally, Trey, Bucky & Molly that I said howdy.
