My "mountain" bike has been relegated to a hardly-used commuter cycle. I hardly do any mountain biking these days because my eyes and courage are not what they used to be. That's why I was trying to think about doing a camping / road biking (which could be rather difficult) weekend.

yeah - Michelle is coming to my house! It is a crazy end of the month in the transportation world....... it is supposed to be slow in July........

I do have to say, the Bontrager shorts Allan ordered me the last time are very nice, I think they were worth the extra money (even though I have no idea how much that was......)

Drive way up to Black Rock Mountain to road ride? Interesting idea - but I think I'd rather do a mtn bike ride up there Rabun if I drove that far.

Yeah, Bob. Also, I've mapped out a 34 mile ride which starts/ends at Black Rock Mountain. I *was* going to go up there on Saturday, but the weather is iffy and I'll probably be joining my photog friends on a trip up to Dalton for a camera swap meet.

"I probably should have stopped in the Pearl Izumi store (don’t think it’s a true “outlet”) when I rode with Bob"

Speaking of that, we need to do the gaps again. That was fun.

Yeah, for me once I'm over my saddle sores from not riding the shorts don't seem to matter too much. I used to ride in Performance Bike shorts, but they fell apart (well, one was torn to hell in my first wreck) so I moved "up" to Pearl Izumi. I probably should have stopped in the Pearl Izumi store (don't think it's a true "outlet") when I rode with Bob just to see if they had any of "last year's" design cheaper than the current year's design.

There doesn't seem to be much expensive material in shorts.. and the more expensive, the more panels, and supposedly better fit. I can't really tell much diference between synthetic chamois and the real stuff..

But, I ask the same question about jeans.

I bought a $50 pair. I looked around for discounts, but much like Apple products Pearl Izumi seem to be the same price everywhere you look. The chamois inside the $75 did look nicer, and the shorts were made of more panels, but neither of these convinced me that they were worth $25 more.

So, did you buy any shorts at all? I'm thinking the chamois is a lot better in the $75 pair......

We will be home this evening if the weather doesn't cooperate, but if it is nice, we may go to Silver Comet with Michelle, or if I can convince her to just comes to my house, go ride over to Kennesaw Mtn.
