SNOW DAY!!!

Whoops, more like Slow Day. This is the type of “snow” that Georgia can handle.

A Productive Day Off
Even though I called in sick yesterday I managed to get a lot accomplished. I went through all of the mail delivered in my absence last week (much of it being actual important tax documents), called into to two conference calls for work, did a little self-directed iOS programming studying, made a trip to Target to buy some Emergen-C (pardon the pun but I find Target to be a very target-rich environment for women that I find attractive, now if I could only figure out how to approach them…) and stopped at Urban Cannibals on the way back, and got my main photo editing computer running again (remember last week when I had the bizarre “cable issue” which brought the system down? My stop at the Apple store on Monday yielded a new cable connector/converter for $35 which seems to have rectified the problem.) Not bad for a “sick” day.

Noticeably absent on the list of achievements are running, bed making, and house cleaning. Oh well, that starts again today.

Nothing for you today. My creative juices have run dry lately. I’m going to try and bounce back soon now that I have my main editing computer back up and running.

I Say A Lot Of Weird Shit, Even For Me This Sounds Strange
I started writing three songs yesterday. I’m not a musician so I have no idea how I’d ever take these beyond paper, and I have no interest in trying to get someone else to record them for me. For most of my life lyrics and music snippets have popped into my head and I’ve never acted on them. Yesterday I decided to write down the three ideas which popped into my head.

Related to this strangeness, I just remembered waking up yesterday morning and vividly remembering the dream which was interrupted by doing so. I was watching a movie — supposedly made by me — featuring fast cut shots between still photos and video snippets of news/sports/etc from the 1970s, early 1980s. The images were so clear that I was mad that I woke up.

Seriously, this is what my mind does naturally, this is why I have no interest in illicit drugs.

My utmost thanks to two special friends.

Yesterday afternoon ITP-Reader Martha stopped by and generously gifted me some tea. I randomly picked one of the packets and instantly made a cup of tea. It was aromatic and delicious.

Last night ITP-Reader Betsy came over with a load of Tasty China (and thanks to non-ITP-Reader Gary for delivering the food to Betsy) and a bottle of wine. The food (some fish/tofu soup, dan dan noodles, some greens, a dish I’ve forgotten but was delicious, and some spring rolls) all of which were spicy, just what the non-doctor-me ordered! Betsy and I caught up on the Top Chef we missed last week, watched last night’s Modern Family, and then watched this week’s Top Chef.

There might have been as much as a half an inch of snow at the farm this morning. It solidly covered the grass and looked very pretty in the pre-dawn glow of a headlight. I’m sure it will all be a memory by the time I get home this afternoon.

Writing song lyrics? Interesting.. sounds like the cold meds to me. Speaking of lyrics, I was wandering around YouTube the other night and found a clip of Allan Sherman, Dean Martin and Vic Damone doing some of Allan’s songs. I knew almost all the words, even though the album I learned them from belonged to a friend in high school, and I might have heard them only a couple times. Amazing what junk is stored in your head…

  2. Normally I’d “blame” the cold meds, but this happens often to me. Strangely, I never listen to the lyrics for most songs so I can rarely sing a song from beginning to end correctly (some exceptions are music from Hüsker Dü and The Cars, and Los Lobos’ “Will The Wolf Survive” since I listened to those sooooooo much in the 1980s).

Were the greens something sort of like spinach, but more leafy? If it was what we had the other night there (with Betsy & Gary) – they were really tasty.

Our dinner was pizza made from leftovers – half steak / onion / asparagas / portabella mushroom – half turkey / asparagas / artichoke hearts & then of course cheese. Never put asparagas on a pizza before – interesting, but not in a bad way. (we are leaving Saturday morning for a long weekend in Houston, so I had to clean out the fridge)

Our big night of TV was watching the season finale of Human Target & the season 2 premiere of Justified. Both very funny, but not in the sitcom humor kind of way.

  4. That description of the greens is accurate. I thought they were good, but I’m more of a fan of the green beans.

I wanted to go to Trader Joe’s yesterday and pick up some pre-made pizza dough, but I wasn’t that ambitious.

Have fun in Houston. I’ve never been to much of Texas. I’ve had one night stays in Dallas (as a child) and San Antonio (I think).

  5. Just heard from non-ITP-Reader Gary, here’s what was on last night’s menu:

    – fish coriander rolls
    – dan dan noodles with pork
    – sichuan double cooked pork
    – braised fish with tofu in chili pepper oil
    – snow pea leaves

  6. Barb says:

snow pea leaves- that was it. They jacked the price of the green beans way up, I’m guessing because they are so popular, or has the price of beans really gone up?
and – the fish & tofu in the chili pepper oil is what Allan always gets – he loves that stuff.

I just bought the premade pizza crust from Harry’s – lazy way – but good.

I was in Houston just once, many years ago & didn’t see anything at all (quick work trip), so it should be an interesting trip. Our friends have just moved there, living in a corporate apartment in the city – so I’m looking forward to exploring the city – since they really haven’t had any chance to do that yet either.

  7. Green beans must be harder to get, hence the price increase. They are always hit-or-miss when I go to the Chinese food court.

I still have some of the fish and tofu left over, that will be tonight’s dinner. W00t!

  8. Martha says:

I love tea, I have at least 6 different kinds at the house. I’m glad you liked it. As I said, I don’t think it has healing properties per se, it just makes me feel good. Sorry if I seemed rushed last night but I was running late for yoga. I hope you’re feeling better today.

“working” from home today. After the last week at the office, I need a little down time. I did manage trips to the post office, Lowes and Target plus moved all of Jerry’s stuff into one closet. Now I’m trying to figure out what to have for lunch, I’m tempted to drive up to Nick’s but being sort of lazy right now. I need to go out for a run as well.

  9. I’m feeling much better today, thanks. I’ve packed my running attire and if things continue to approve I’ll go for a jaunt tonight before heading home.

  10. Martha says:

I just remembered/found the speed/cadence sensor for your bike/Garmin 305 I said I would give you. I’ll try to drop it by this weekend, if you haven’t already got one.

  11. I’ve not purchased one yet because I knew that you’d come through. 😉 Thanks.
