Here We Go Again

As some deadlines near I’m thinking of sinking my life back into work for a little while. Thankfully I have some photos banked (get ready for the flowers…) and will make sure to find the time to knock out a few words for everyone. Starting Friday (weather permitting) I’ll be focusing on three things:

  1. Fun
  2. Coding
  3. Yardwork

I’ll ask no one to join me on any of these adventures but if there is a way to combine these efforts I will not turn any offers down.

I’m Planning A Great Escape
What: a long weekend
When: in August
Where: a golf resort Waynesville, NC (if I could think of the name off the top of my head I’d include a link here)
Why: to get the fuck out of Dodge and to use a Livingsocial coupon I bought some time ago

I’ve come to the conclusion that this year’s vacations will mostly be three/four-day weekends. I’ve somehow managed to use one-third of my vacation time in the first half of the year and know of some of the remaining days that I’ve already committed to other trips.

Though I think I’ll have to let my Dick Lane Velodrome coupon expire — thanks a lot, bicycle accident — I’m trying to use up the other coupons I’ve purchased prior to their expiration.

It Took Nearly 260 Times, But I Think I Finally Screwed Up
Guess where I went last night. “Taco Mac” you say? You are a clever one…

I think I finally accidentally ordered a duplicate beer for my Taco Mac Brewniversty (nee Passport) list.

When I first sat down I was being served by a guy, who later passed me to one of my favorite waitresses. When I saw that “Dale’s Pale Ale” was a “Just In” beer I couldn’t believe that my list did not have Dale’s Pale Ale — so I ordered one. The waiter dude told me that I was the third person to be surprised that his beer list didn’t contain Dale’s Pale Ale. I think that all three of us made the same mistake… As I perused my list in order to order my second beer I noticed that my list had an entry “O.B. Dale’s Pale Ale.” DANGEN! Very sneaky Taco Mac, very sneaky.

Last night I changed things up a bit by ordering celery with my sandwich instead of french fries; it’s a mere minor improvement to my diet, but it’s a start. Oddly, I didn’t miss the french fries.

ITP Flickr Pic
Before I deluge this stream with flower photos I’ll give you this shot from the Monastery of the Holy Spirit
Monastery
You are probably as surprised as I am that I was not struck down by lightning as I entered the monastery.

Unrelated: I don’t boast much, but I think I really nailed this photo. [Note: and by “nailed this photo” I admit that this is a HDR-composite of five photos with much post-processing after the composite was made.]

I Have A New Word That I Cannot Type Correctly
Inevitably “monastery” gets typed as “monestary.” I find this interesting that I’ve cannot seem to get this right.

I Finally Remembered The Website I Wanted To Highlight Yesterday
It happened while sitting in Taco Mac….

What’s in a name?

While roaming around the Abbey Store at Monastery of the Holy Spirit I wandered into the food section. Having seen some fresh vegetables and local honey I wondered if all of the products in the store were local. I noticed a jar of balsamic garlic and herb jam from a place called Terrapin Ridge Farms. “Terrapin?” I thought. “I wonder if this is produced in Athens, GA.” When I turned the jar I laughed as I saw that it was “local” — if I still lived in Clearwater, FL… Further confusing me was knowing that there were no farms (well, there used to be orange/grapefruit groves) in Clearwater when we moved there in the late 1970s. Where could Terrapin Ridge Farms be? Google Maps pinpointed Terrapin Ridge Farms to an office building about three miles from my family’s old house and three blocks away from a house in which some of my relatives lived.

Reminds me of the bottle of “Glacial Springs” water which was sourced from the Municipal Water Supply of Miami, FL.

When does the Velodrome deal expire (I guess I could look it up on mine), I might know someone that would use it. I need to get back in touch some friends about doing this soon. I think you should use it, damn slight chance of getting hit by a car on the track 😉 and you don’t need your own bike.

Why would you fast? Cramming all your ‘weigh loss’ into one day wont work. The ‘best’ you could hope for is to be dehydrated and show only water weight loss on the scale. What’s the point in that?

I really like the picture, I’ve got several of the churches I visited in England, but couldn’t get the sort of detail needed to really get a feel for the space.

I managed to get a little yard work done yesterday, I added some top soil/compost to the garden beds, added a new water lily to the pond, build a little cage, with hopes of actually growing some lettuce (I think I waited too late and it is just too hot but I keep trying) and finally planted the thai basil (smells soooo good).

That’s a great photo. I’d send it to the monastery with your complements. Are they still baking bread out there? That was one of their main sources of income, if I recall.

Yesterday was a day for catching up on rest and a few chores. A few more chores tonight and back to exercise tomorrow.

well – the only real news of the day – I’ve finally got some red tomatoes, so I went & got some fresh mozzarella & we had an appetizer before dinner last night! We should have plenty very soon.

Paulie – and suggestions for dinner Thursday night? Fish, chicken, pork, steak? I’m just not sure what to make……..

  4. Steve, I was told that they were baking bread. When I got a hot loaf I saw on the package that it was from NJ. WTH?

Martha, not trying to pack my weight-loss into one day, just overreacting to my situation.

Barb, if you want me to bring the meat/fish let me know what you and Allan would like. Not sure what Jason’s eating habits are, I know I’ve seen him eat steak so perhaps beef would be best? Either way I’ll bring a bottle of red wine and if we go with fish I’ll leave the red wine behind as thanks.

    Off to a meeting…

  5. Steve says:

Label printer in NJ perhaps? I don’t know how hot bread could still be warm after travelling that far…
Red wne goes with everything.. I’m just sayin.

  6. Barb says:

I’m with Steve – that bread can’t be from NJ, unless their flour is from there?

Let’s go steaks – that’s always safe, plus, we can cook them on the Egg & it won’t take all that long. (and Allan can monitor as you guys are messing with the bike).

I’ll come up with some sides…….. I’m sure you will get something with tomatoes, because they are sooo tasty. Maybe some fresh green beans, squash, peppers &/or eggplant too.

Martha – I gave up on the spinach – it was looking pretty good, then just started going to seed. I think I needed to pick it & since I didn’t, well, I have no idea.

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    I could investigate…

    I’ll bring steaks for five.

  8. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Unless you have a good meat source, in which case I’ll arrive with wine and some cash.

  9. Barb says:

I could get the steaks if you want me too (it isn’t any trouble), but no, I’m not a big meat market person, I just go to Sam’s, or Harry’s, or Publix, or………..

  10. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I’ll leave meat procurement in your hands.

  11. Martha says:

Okay, I made it back from Locust Grove, wow! 😉 Did a little shopping for the new job. I found out that Banana Republic will email your receipt, it sort of nice, you don’t have to worry about losing it but now they have your email…oh well, they will get it one way or another.

We also got the ‘broken’ piece for the new media stand today, finally have it put together and everything back in it’s place.

I picked a jalapeno today, still waiting on some red tomatoes … lettuce keeps wilting/drying up/disappearing…

  12. Barb says:

why did you go to Locust Grove?
I havent’ been to a Banana Republic probably since college, but aren’t they usually in the mall? (and, I rarely go to the mall)

  13. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I confess that I had no idea where Locust Grove was and had to Google Map it.
