The Weekend Of “Dids” and “Didn’ts”

Last weekend didn’t really go 100% as expected but there was enough activity to make it interesting.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Place a pair of slippers or socks by your front door to wear the next time you come inside.

Whether you live in the city, suburbs, or country, your shoes carry in dirt, pesticides, and other pollutants every time you walk in the door. This grime can make you sick, irritate allergies and asthma, and make your home harder to clean. By leaving your shoes at the door, your space will be cleaner – not just the floors, but the air you breathe, too.

It’s too late to start this habit at the ITP Estate, perhaps at my next residence, which at the rate I am going will be a nursing home.

Saturday Night Sleeper
I kicked around the ITP Estate Saturday morning doing a few menial tasks. Even if they did make quite the racket it was satisfying to see a tree service come out and make wood chips out of my neighbor’s damaged tree, including the branches that were left in my front yard. Yay, less work for me!

I finally getting my ass in gear about noon and prepared my mountain bike for the day’s activity. With a reassuring weather forecast I followed through on my plan to ride to Orpheus Brewing for their beer tasting.

Little known fact: Georgia breweries are legally only allowed to offer tastings for two hours in a day. At least that was what I was told by Orpheus’ owner.

With exception of being scared shitless of the thought of being hit by a car as I rode through the Krog Street tunnel my ride from East Atlanta to Piedmont Park, mostly via the Belt Line, was fun.

I knew I’d enjoy Orpheus if for no other reason that ITP-Reader Stacy was volunteering and it’s been almost a year since I’ve seen her (where does the time go?). As one of Atlanta’s newest breweries Orpheus has taken a different approach to there offerings, making many sour beers, a flavor profile I never even considered before Belgium.

After the two hours of consumption was up Stacy, Aron (aka “Yassir Creamer”) and I enjoyed dinner at Hobnob, which provided me with the much-needed food necessary for my ride home.

Wasn’t I surprised to leave Hobnob and find threatening skies? Wasn’t I told that there was a 0% chance of rain on Saturday? With the fear of getting soaked I rode my mountain bike as fast as I possibly could, making the 6.2-mile ride in 38:40.

I guess the beer and exercise really took their toll on my because I passed out sometime before 9:00pm only to away periodically throughout the night.

No electrons were sacrificed in the name of photography this weekend. Pity.

At The Hash?
Weeeeeeeeell, not yet.

On Sunday morning I signed up for the Lake Hartwell Hash which apparently is going to mark my return to Atlanta-area hashing. I had a strong desire to run Black Sheep yesterday, but a stronger need to go to the office and work on some critical matters won out instead.

I started the day with a lovely and filling breakfast at The Original Pancake House on Cheshire Bridge before driving up to the office to put in about six hours of work.

While at the office I contact my boss and we scheduled a 5pm racquetball time, which was good because it forced me to both leave the office and to get exercise yesterday. Of course we paid a visit to Lucky’s Burger and Brew afterward, where the best I could do in “responsible calorie consumption” was to order a salad for dinner.

Today’s Personal Project
Monday Night Lavanderia and boy howdy to I have a lot of laundry to do tonight.

We have a possible house winner! Small-ish, but 5 acres and no jsut a man cave, but a man castle! 30×50′ they currently park their 37′ motorhome in!!! We are struggling, as the house is adequate, but doesn’t really grab either of us. More discussion.

Late Saturday afternoon, I finally decided to get on my bike- what then possessed me to ride 33 miles in 90 temps, I’m not quite sure. All I can say is I survived, though the cramps later in the evening were pretty bad.

Sunday, we celebrated the re-opening of the Huddle House! Debbie’s favorite seat is now obscured by a new fridge, and the food is about the same, so little has changed!

Sad news from Colorado. I don’t know that they mentioned it on the broadcast, but the rider who crashed and was returning to the peloton went through the rear windshield on a team car when the caravan stopped suddenly and was airlifted to the hospital in Denver. Reports are good so far, but it’s still very early.

  2. During the two hours I “watched” yesterday they mentioned a crash and an abandonment, but no further details.

There were many nice tributes to Jens during the early portion of the broadcast as well. Unfortunately I didn’t see the end of the race.

Geez, that’s a horrible story Steve, I’ll be hoping for a happy ending.

Yes, it was a hot one this weekend and, because I’m so smart I took it upon myself to make this the weekend I reunited with my bike. I didn’t ride far, probably less than 10 miles for the weekend, but it was enough. I rode it up to Summer Shade on Saturday and to the gym on Sunday. In addition to the fun on the bike I took Jerry’s jeep for a spin, I didn’t like driving it. The way it is set up I can *just* reach the clutch for driving but to go into reverse I have to undo the seatbelt and nearly stand up. I just got back from dropping the car off at the mechanics and Jerry will be home this evening so I’ll be back to having a car again soon.

  4. Barb says:

I missed that crash in Colorado, what day did that happen?

I should have gotten on my bike this weekend, but didn’t. Saturday was a wasted day, had to do some work at work in the morning, then the rest of the day jsut kind of faded away doing not much of anything.

Sunday got up too early to go paddleboard with JoAnna, it was beautiful and so quiet at 8am on the lake. Lake Acworth is a nice little lake, with no real motors allowed. Went for a nice walk afterwards with the beagle, Mia is such a funny little dog.

I knew about the weird 2 hour law for breweries, when Sweetwater was literally throwing us out when we were there, and then Red Hare was the same way.

  5. Steve says:

The initial crash was fairly routine, but needed a bike change. He was moving up in the caravan and it locked up… I”m guessing he didn’t have a chance if he was right behind the team car. Davis Phinney went out the same way…
