Not Guilty!

As you read this I hope one of two things are true:
1. I am currently on a fun bike ride.
2. I have already completed a fun bike ride.

I am writing this on Wednesday night in preparation for a ride in the predicted-to-be-cooler morning.

An Interesting Thing Happened After Lunch
Yesterday I met up with five soon-to-be-former coworkers for lunch at Minas on Delk Road. It was a delicious, albeit over-salted, lunch.

When we were all done we walked out to our cars and said our good-byes. As I was about to get into my car an old pickup truck pulled into the parking spot one away from mine and a Cobb County police officer pulled behind my car with the lights flashing. I looked at the officer and she said, “Please give me a minute”. What as I going to say?

After sitting in my hot car for a few minutes I felt that the coworkers who had not yet left might mistakenly think that I was in trouble with the law, so I got out and walked up to Mink’s Package Store to do a little shopping.

Even after spending time in Mink’s the situation hadn’t resolved itself; it appeared as if the male driver had been arrested, the female passenger eventually got into the second cruiser (not under arrest) that had arrived while I was in Mink’s, and a flat-bed tow truck was there to take away the pickup; not even the three large Trump decals in the rear window of the pickup could spare the Pennsylvania truck from the Cobb County law!

All in all my departure from lunch was delayed at least fifteen minutes, but I did add a six-pack of beer, a bottle of beer, and two bottles of inexpensive Pinot Noir to my booty.

This Pokémon card was on the ground next to my car yesterday.

A Tale Of Two Bites
I have been blessed to have a body that fends off all mosquito bites within fifteen minutes without experiencing any itching.

The same cannot be said for bites from red ants. A week ago last Tuesday, as I ill-advisedly walked bare-footed in a grassy area, I suffered six bites on my left food and three of the toes on that foot. As of today you can still see where the bites occurred as hardened red lumps. It may sound as if I am a bit of a hypochondriac, but I’m hoping that these do not result in permanent scars.

Have a great day friends.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

The report on Debbie’s dad was much better yesterday. While very weak, he was lucid enough to recognize Debbie and complain he hadn’t seen her in a while- not remembering anything about our visit on Monday. Next step will be a bit of rehab in a facility he’s been in before in Jackson.

So nice to work from home. I’m not able to accomplish a lot, but able to participate in calls and Skype sessions and catch up on paperwork. I got a little ride in last evening, then Debbie had a hankering for BBQ, so we went into Newnan for dinner.

Today was the first day below 60 degrees when I drove in. It might be a bit chilly at teh start of your ride but should be nice once the sun starts shining.

Still haven’t gone out, while I am not looking to ride at 11 again I (hopefully) have a good reason, other than being a wimp, for not departing. Tune in tomorrow to find out! I will explain one way or another then.

Unrelated: I know now is the worst season to visit, but I keep getting travel deal offers to go to Ireland. I am soooo tempted.

  4. Stacy says:

I’m not understanding why you were delayed leaving. Was the cop car blocking you in or something?

The Pokemon card next to your car made me giggle. Made me think of the leaving of an Ace of Spades as a death card…. Death by Poke!

  5. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

The first officer, the one who made the traffic stop, had me blocked from the rear. I was parked on the outer edge of the parking lot, so I couldn’t pull forward either. But, I made the delay bearable by buying alcohol! 🙂

And the Pokémon card is foreshadowing given that I will most certainly be “playing” Pokémon GO in Raleigh this weekend.

went to the ortho doc this morning, it will heal, it will hurt for a while, probably 3 months until it is 100%. just have the elbow area wrapped.
i cant put pressure on my hand/wrist, so no bike riding amytime soon, as i cant ride 1 handed, im not that talented.

still typing with 1 hand, hope that part heals the fastest.

always excitement on Delk. someday i need to check out Minas.

Yesterday was not Minas’s finest showing, small meat selection and everything was too salty, but I still liked it.

  9. Stacy says:

Oh Barb, I’m so sorry. 🙁 First of all, pain totally sucks to begin with. And now not being able to bike? Yeah, even if you could bike one-handed, what if you took a tumble again with it already fractured? Not cool. Wishes for quick healing!

But speaking of bikes, I know not all you ITP-Readers on the Book of Faces, but I posted this there the other day…. since y’all are out biking around so much already, might be nice to win some prizes!

“Atlanta peeps who ride bikes: The Atlanta Bike Challenge is back on this year! Starting yesterday and runs through the end of October….register to earn points and chances to win awesome prizes (including a $1000 bike!).
Go here: www (dot)atlbikechallenge (dot) com”

Is the bike challenge only for corporations?

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Of the email I get daily Atlas Obscura has the best articles, including today’s article about the once popular sport of indoor cycling

  12. steve says:

I know “we’re” playing as a “corporation”, but I didn’t even sign up, as my October is a little full already.

Barb, if you have a Windows device, what about voice entry? Might be worth tinkering with.

Great article! And on a side note- Debbie’s trip to SC last week, the barn was owned by relatives of Bobby Walthour.
