Good Friday

Whew, it’s about time I got a paid day off from work. I mean, I worked four whole days this week! In a row even! Yep, “XYZ Corp” has a company holiday today, so I don’t have to go into work. 😁🤓😁

Last night I kept internally singing the song from “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” with the lyrics:

Put one foot in front of the other
And soon you’ll be walking ‘cross the floor
Put one foot in front of the other
And soon you’ll be walking out the door

I’m not sure you could call what I did last night “walking” but for the first time since Sunday I moved from point A to not very far from point A without the aid of crutches. For the rest of the evening I used one crutch as well, a crutch. Be y steps, and I am a big baby.

I won’t go as far as to say that I am pain-free, but I am feeling better and wincing a lot less than in the past few days.

My lofty goal last night of going to IKEA and Target after work fell apart because I was just not ready to push myself that far. Because of this change of plans I also changed my dinner plans. Originally I was going to eat at Grindhouse Burgers on Piedmont because I like their food and I read that their business has been hurt by the I-85 collapse. However, I wasn’t ready to eat as soon as I left work and with traffic on my route toward home I wound up winding my way to Kirkwood and eating at Elmyriachi instead. This may be the sixth time I have eaten at Elmyriachi, ordering the “Tampiqueno” burrito each time, and yet to be disappointed. Unfortunately due to being on medication I had to abstain from drinking beer with my dinner. I haven’t had alcohol since Saturday. Weird.

The rest of my evening was spent at home either trying to move around as I said earlier, or searching for mindless entertainment to watch on my iPad.

Have your own good Friday today and a great weekend.

It looks as if a lot of people have today off because the traffic map is still very green. I wonder if this will provide a false sense of low traffic for Marietta Braves games.

Note: much like calling a certain company “The Patriots”, the Major League Baseball team that used to play in Atlanta Fulton County stadium and Turner Field will now be referenced to by me as the “Marietta Braves”.

  2. Stacy says:

Now I want a burger. 🙂 Luckily I had the foresight to pick up a couple of patties from the meat case in the grocery a couple days ago. Burgers for dinner! (Not quite the same as Grindhouse, but it’ll do.)

Speaking of burgers… Atlanta Burger Week is coming up! Last year I hit two places (Sidebar downtown and Hi-Five Diner, now closed). Definitely not disappointed. We’ve been talking about it on the Facebooks. We should all get together for a burger They’ll come out with the recipes soon. Last year Sidebar’s was a Cuban burger (think Cuban sandwich fixins on a burger -yum!) and Hi Five was a breakfast one with egg and bacon. http://www.atlburgerweek.com/

Glad the hip is doing better. Maybe well enough to chance the stairs to the basement and spin a bit on the trainer?

I mowed at home last night and am loaded to go to the Ben Hilton for it’s regular trim this afternoon.

There didn’t seem to be much traffic on the roads today, but the MARTA lot was as full as it has been lately.

We are adjusting to life without Zelda. All the dogs seem in a funk. Lillie, the dog from across the street came up yesterday. Everyone was out, but she kept looking at the door waiting on Zelda… I cried.

    • Going to wait one more day before attempting stairs and trainer as walking is tough enough.

I looked at the traffic map in surprise today. I thought that it might be a Federal Holiday.

Sorry to hear about your continued sorrow. The impact of loss is one of the reasons I have not gotten another pet. Hell, I was sad when JFK vanished, and he was a feral!

  4. Barb says:

what about a cane? would that work better?

Steve – I’m so bummed as well about Zelda- I’m sure its so weird without her.
BTW – TJ said he got rid of most of those shoes (not sure I believe him, but……)

I could go on a rant about all the intown people whining about the Braves, but I won’t. I think baseball is boring, I never went to games in town (that whole set up was horrible for traffic as well to get there), so I don’t see how the new stadium could be worse. I will go to 1 game some day just to see the whole set up, then probably will not go again.

PineLake is ending at The Wing for an Oyster Fest tomorrow, and I have to miss it, I’m going to a bridal shower. PantyWaste’s daughter is getting married this summer, I think I’ve known her for most if not all of her life.

    • A cane could work but I don’t have one and have no desire to acquire one (yet).

I am not a Braves fan, but given where I live and my obvious view of this city based on my domain/blog I was irked by the move. Though truth be told, their move should help my commute.

      The move bothered my because:
      – Turner Fild is only twenty years old so it was a waste to give up on it. Sure Georgia State bought the land and intends to use it, but still.
      – If traffic woes were a reason to move the location chosen, without any access to public transit, was dumb. I am not naive, I know that the move was to make more money.
      – They drained a lake and leveled many trees for the new complex. I am not a fan of mass destruction of nature.

*looking for crutch to help get off this soapbox*

  5. bob says:

Sounds like your hip is healing up, like Barb said have you thought about a cane instead of a crutch? Also with a cane you can wave it in the air while yelling at the neighborhood kids to get off your lawn 🙂

Barb you can add me to the list of people that whine about the Braves. I was becoming a fan then they traded away all their talent and moved away from an in town stadium that was just fine to piss away millions of tax payer dollars on a Cobb county stadium. Traffic was never an issue either since I always took Marta, and yes I know Marta is not an option for you being from Cobb. I won’t whine about the Cobb county Braves any more as I am no longer a fan. Works out well too, gives me more time for riding.

Steve, so sorry about Zelda. I feel your pain too, I still expect Snoop to meet me at the door every time I get home like he used to. I still shed a tear or 2 when I think of him.

  6. Barb says:

Mayor Kasim was all about spending money on the Falcons – but not willing to pony up a little for the Braves – bottom line, that’s why they moved. In this day & age, if you don’t have the most new, innovative, high tech bullshit for a stadium, you suck. (I don’t believe that at all, but I guess everyone else does)

Traffic woes are one of my excuses, and I think both places are the same that way.
One big plus for me of the move is they have fixed (& are still fixing) all the roads nearby – it will be AWESOME on non game days. Putting in better/wider sidewalks, widening the roads, etc, which means we can maybe, just maybe ride the road bikes without total fear of getting hit by a car. Or…. maybe a Wheelhopper in areas we’ve never been able to really venture to.

The fact that they took out all those trees does stink, and it displaced coyotes, & other wildlife. They are roaming the neighborhoods of Cobb county even more than before.

  7. Debbie Brady says:

Nobody tell the Cubs they aren’t all that because their stadium isn’t state of the art. Keep the Red Sox in the dark as well. I’m still mad they tore down Fulton County stadium. Bah humbug, where’s my dang cane when I need it to shake.

We haven’t gone to a game in years, so I just like bitching about it.

Brownie is grieving in his own fashion. This morning all sorts of random treasures are clustered around a newly slain armadillo.
He made me laugh out loud this morning. He’s sleeping off his arduous night now. Good Brown.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and a happy Easter. I’m looking forward to the end of Lent and the return of guilt-free fried food. I may have broken a few times, but not without guilt.

    • Barb says:

Debbie – I wasn’t paying attention the other day & my burger came with fries.
I thought I had told the waitress to sub a salad. Anyway – I ate a few, but they weren’t that good, so I didn’t decided I didn’t need to feel super guilty!

I love Brownie – did you take any pictures? I’d love to see that memorial.

      • Steve says:

Apparently he dumped the wheelbarrow and the muck cart over and collected all the feeders off the fence. Carnage!

      • Debbie Brady says:

I felt even worse for eating the subpar tater tots that I got on Sunday. If I’m going to sin at least sin well.

Side note – there’s a special place in hell for a cook that screws up tater tots. They looked good on the outside, but were crispy all that way through. Guilty pleasure ruined!

No pictures were taken of Brown’s work. I was trying to herd the puppy away from the carcass while juggling feed buckets. Living the live down here in the sticks.

        • Stacy says:

“there’s a special place in hell for a cook that screws up tater tots” — oh, Debbie. You gave me a great big belly laugh with this. Thank you! 🙂

          • Barb says:

            I LOL’d as well.

I’m so disappointed no pictures of Brownie’s art. Especially if there is an armadillo involved.

  8. HamWithCam says:

    This and that:
    – Don’t be afraid of stairs. You should find stairs *easier* than simply walking. At least I did. And I’d think the trainer will do you good.
    – Get a cane, much more better than crutches.
    – Resist the urge to cancel with Dr. Royster. Cheap peace of mind.
    – See if you can keep the “no cold beers” run going. I’m just saying. 🙂
    – Tax returns mailed. Boo yah. Decatur post office was…empty.
    – I note lighter than expected traffic. A few Hams I chatted with reported the same.
    – A few “John Ossoff” yard signs have popped up in our (City of Decatur) neighborhood. Odd, we live in the ….5th Congressional District. “Vote early and often…” BTW: Ossoff is an alumnus of the “prestigious in-town private school” our daughter attended.

Quick story: When we were checking out the school prior to our daughter’s enrollment, the headmaster shared a list of recent high school graduates and their college choices. Some 95 out of 97 had college plans. I scanned the list quickly for “Georgia Tech” and finding none asked the headmaster “why”? To which the headmaster replied: “Our students aspire to greater ambitions than a technical education…”

Disclaimer: Super good school, our daughter got a great education. And as a result breezed through college.

I may have mentioned the next door neighbor had his roof replaced yesterday. Despite the roofers completing a “clean sweep fore and aft” with some sort of magnet roller deal, I found a nail on our driveway, adjacent to his yard.

Oh, and we saw a bunny in our backyard this morning (relatively common, we count at least two):
(Photo not taken this morning, but heck, you guys won’t know the difference.)

    • Stairs hurt like hell. Walking hurts close to like hell. I was able to soldier home in my mountain bike from Oakland Cemetery after the wreck, I think the trainer once I got onto it, would be alright. I *could* go to LA Fitness and ride a recumbent bike…

I like to think i will be completely healed by Tuesday but will most likely go see Royster no matter what.

I found nails for months after having my roof replaced a million years ago, and more when I had the gutter guards installed. Fortunately none found their way into tires or feet.

And I was contemplating showing instead of a bath today, but think i just talked myself out of that notion when I attempted walking again. Safety third!

      • Steve says:

Wait, the headmaster didn’t think the education at Tech was sufficient for a graduate of his institution and you still sent her?

    • Barb says:

we have one of those magnet things – has come in handy more than once.

I went to private school, we called it Catholic school, didn’t really think of it any different than public school, except we had religion classes. I think 145 of the 150 I graduated with went to college.

  9. Steve says:

BROWN! He’s my man! I knew when he wanted to sleep outside last night, he was up to something. When I left, he was sitting in the middle of the “driveway” on full alert.

  10. Once again planned to go to Grindhoise on Ponce, once again failed. The streets were jammed with people like me trying to get around. I gave up on Freedom Parkway and then realized that I needed gas. I headed to the QT on Scott and am now eating pizza at Savage Pizza in Avondale Estates.

  11. Oh, and I was originally going to go to a Chinese buffet but then realized I had no way to carry a plate. Lol!
