Beaten Up, But Not Beaten

Progress on the healing front is starting to happen.

I made it to IKEA yesterday and was glad that I did. Sure there were plenty of attractive women shopping there, one even looked as if she were going to talk to me before turning and walking away. LOL! I’m glad that I got to IKEA because to my great surprise they were nearly sold out, or moved a shitload of stock to a place in the store I never found, of one of the two items I was there to buy for my new work area at “XYZ Corp”. In total the two items cost $5 so I was not about to try and get the new company to buy them for me. I ambled around IKEA using one crutch, and got more walking distance in than I had bargained because I had to backtrack to get a third item, something that I had forgotten to look for until I was nearly at the register.

From IKEA I drove back toward the ITP Estate, stopping at Kroger to pick up a few necessities for last night’s dinner. I left the crutch in the M6 and tooled around by pushing a shopping cart.

Dinner last night was the resurrection, appropriate for Easter Monday, of a dish that I last made in April 2016 (where does the time go?), Slow-Cooker Curry Cashew Chicken. The version I made this year was better for two reasons:

  1. I made it for only me, so I didn’t have to buy as much for the recipe as I did last year
  2. I didn’t drop my knife into the ceramic insert of my Crockpot and crack it like I did last year

Along with the pork I made on Sunday I now have leftovers to eat for the next four days…

Once I arrived home I ditched the crutches for the rest of the night. I hobbled around with some pain, but I am stubborn and want to walk again as soon as possible. I’ve also give up on taking pain killers, so I am hoping that the pain in my chest, upper left-hand side near my breastplate is also deep bruising that I am now feeling due to the lack of pain meds. The fall occurred on the left side, with me landing on my hip, arm/elbow, and shoulder so pain and bruising should not be unexpected. Stay tuned.

Buck Up, I-20, Buck Up
I said “Buck up, not buckle up”! Oh man, not one but two incidents closing interstates in the Atlanta area yesterday?

I finally figured it out! I heard that Trump will be in Atlanta next week to speak at an NRA convention so we are trying to destroy our infrastructure so that he cannot get around. The only problem is that he’ll most likely land at Dobbins and we’ve yet to make I-75 southbound impassable.

Back To The Corp, Back To German Class
When you read this, assuming you are reading this on Tuesday April 18th, I am at one of three places:

  1. at “XYZ Corp” trying to become a valuable employee
  2. at Dr Royster’s office getting my injury evaluated
  3. in German class at the Goethe Zentrum in Colony Square

Even though I had the entire day yesterday to study German I only managed to get a few hours of work in toward the end of the night. Slacker!

May your Tuesday be happy.

I-20: We’ve finally have something in Atlanta that knows how to Rise Up!

Oh crap popsicle! I knew about the NRA convention; didn’t realize Trump was going to be here too. I wonder if I can convince my overlords to let me work from home during that.

My sister will be arriving on Thursday. I won’t have much time with her as she’s really here for a conference and using her big sis as a hotel. And I guess that’s kind of a good thing because I have no idea what to do with her. She doesn’t go out, she doesn’t drink, she doesn’t eat (she does this program thing that’s only shakes, one meal a day and the conference is providing the meal each day); and when she does eat, she doesn’t eat meat…. she’s like the anti-Stacy. 😉 But seriously, that leaves us with a crazy lack of things to do. Her conference doesn’t start until 6pm Friday though so I’ll find something Friday morning I guess. Maybe just a walk around the park and Beltline? Suggestions definitely welcomed!

hey Stacy – we never met up for the air mattress – I could make something work tonight if you didn’t find one elsewhere.
Your sister does sound like bizarre world Stacy.
I just don’t know how people can do that shake thing instead of meals -I guess I like food too much.

I heard something about touring the new baseball stadium? I don’t know what or when those happen, but that could be interesting.

Paulie – please don’t jinx 75 – my favorite meme from yesterday was one about 75 has entered the witness protection program.

      • Stacy says:

Aww, thanks Barb! I think we’re just going to make things work as is. My couch is pretty comfy, should be fine. Sis is being funny. Asking things like “do you have a hair dryer that works?” and so I’m responding things like “nope; only keep the broken ones.” This should be fun.

Not a bad idea on the stadium – I’ll look into it. That is, if I-75 hasn’t collapsed between there and home before then.

        • Barb says:

I have a hair dryer that works – I think – I haven’t used it in a few years. Maybe I’ll go plug it in, just to see. That’s a funny question.

I’d be interested in any “Suntrust Park” tour info you may uncover. Thanks.

          Alternatives:
          – Atlanta Botanical Garden
          – High Museum
          – NCAA College Football deal at Phillips/ CEP
          – Pretty sure CNN still offers a tour
          – World of Coke <– super fun, if you've not been
          – Lenox Square

Paulie – I hope that even if you don’t feel comfortable riding, you at least come visit us at STU. Vern (& everyone) would be so disappointed if you aren’t there to harass about drinking Evan Williams……… I think they have made a new shot glass to accompany the little Debbie one for this year.
I’m trying to figure out what all to pack, that my main project for this evening & tomorrow.

Tree guy estimate #3 is around lunch time today.

  3. Steve says:

Glad the hip is starting to feel better.

Stacy, I’m thinking the Beltline would be a fun outing for your sis. Most of your other activities kind of leave her out.

A fairly quiet night- a run, an attempt to put a part on the tractor that was not the right size. A search of parts online for my tractor- even the manufacturer doesn’t have a decent online inventory. WTF, O? I believe a phone call to the dealer in Barnesville is in order.

I’m sure the DOT is about over emergency repairs!!

    • Stacy says:

I think the park/Beltline is going to be my best bet too. And maybe shopping. I hate shopping (unless it’s groceries) but I bet she’d like to.

  4. Barb says:

3rd tree estimate done – this guy is the highest – $6200.
But – he emphasized that they are the highest ratings on all these website, have all the best insurance, etc. Need to figure out what the other guys have for insurance.

    • HamWithCam says:

      Barb –
We have used a tree guy, Wayne Fetterolf of Arbortech Tree Service, Inc.
      Cheap. Honest. Small, bug jobs.

We used Wayne a bunch at our other house in Decatur.

Interesting trivia: Wayne is a pilot and volunteers and flies kids in need of medical care, surgeries, etc. Good guy.

      • I have used them too, and will eventually be contacting them about my backyard.

      • Barb says:

thanks – I’ll give them a call & see if they want work in Marietta.

      • Barb says:

        called Wayne- damn he’s chatty.
bottom line, he’s busy enough without venturing to Marietta, and I told him what we were needing & the estimates I had already gotten, and he said he couldn’t do any better for sure.

  5. HamWithCam says:

Wow! You managed an unassisted walk from car to grocery and back? I’d call that progress! Hopefully, Dr. Royster will give you more good news.

    In other news:
    – Our HVAC unit was low on freon (as suspected). A couple of pounds of R-22 and we’re back in bidness.
    – Undercounter beverage cooler refrigerator deal had a bad compressor start-up relay. Simple fix, but practically impossible to get to.

Quite surprised the DOT got that (gas leak) damaged section of I-20 reopened so quickly. Impressive!

Yep, the NRA is coming to town late next week for their Annual Meeting. Big firearms and accessories manufacturers exhibit at WCC. Free to NRA members. Given today’s political climate I’m not really sure how they snuck that one past the goalie. They are expecting 80,000 (legally gun-toting) NRA members. In downtown Atlanta. Surely protests will be planned, once the more anti-gun among us realizes what’s happening.

Supposedly Trump will address the NRA Leadership Forum something-something. I think Saturday. So 80,000 NRA members, likely protestors (anti-gun, anti-Trump), I’ll bet the Secret Service loves it.

I have a sneaking suspicion our Governor Deal may take the occasion of the NRA Annual Meeting to show his hand regarding House Bill 280 (AKA, “Campus Carry”, which permits adults over the age of 21 who have a Georgia Weapons License to carry a gun on public campuses. There are significant restrictions.) Deal vetoed a similar bill last year, with fewer restrictions. This year Deal has nothing to lose politically. Still too close to call.

Disclaimer: I own guns. I have a valid Georgia Weapons License. I recently joined the NRA to attend the (free for members) NRA Annual Meeting vendor exhibits. Cheap entertainment.

Allan was working at the airport for 1 of Obama’s visits – he said the prep with the secret service, FBI, CIA & God knows who was amazing, and that was at Hartsfield for just the coming & going.

I bet the NRA is an entertaining group to observe. I’m sure this whole Annual Meeting will be all over the news for various reasons.

  6. Hobbled unassisted to and from Subway. Exercise was okay, the sandwich not so much.

  7. Steve says:

The report from the ortho is Dupuytren’s disease. His advice, don’t F with it and you’ll not likely have any problems.

    http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dupuytrens-contracture/basics/definition/con-20024378

    What did your doctor say?

    • Barb says:

well – you fit the criteria – (not saying you are older, but aren’t we all anymore?)
Dupuytren’s contracture mainly affects the ring finger and pinky, and occurs most often in older men of Northern European descent.

      Interesting………….

  8. Steve says:

I had read about that before my appointment, but don’t really have those symptoms, except for the “cord” in my palms. No finger curling. I might add some padding to my bars, since my rides are generally on the washboard scale! But I do fit the other criteria, FYVM!

    • Barb says:

I have my bars double wrapped & there is some extra padding Allan put in there too. He’s at Cycleworks tomorrow, if you want him to get you anything.
