Captain Cheapskate

Once upon a time I was praised by a woman I dated for driving the Jackmobile when I could afford a “much nicer” car on my salary. I have always been a “saver”.

Once upon a time I enjoyed going out to dinner, even when I ate alone, for the joy of having food that I couldn’t make myself. Now I am into saving time. I could have gone to the CocoaHeads monthly meet up last night and eaten a free meal (pizza, or perhaps a burrito), as I was able to get home in plenty of time to do my chores and drive to Big Nerd Ranch’s office in Kirkwood where the meet ups are held, but all I wanted to do was stay home. And I did. And I ate a can of tomato soup and two frozen biscuits. And I drank two 16-ounce beers. All of these I had already purchased, and the sum total of my meal was probably less than $5. I have always been a “saver”.

Stick A Needle In Me
Yesterday’s physical therapy was different from my last. The therapist did all of the requisite bending and stretching of my body, coming to the same conclusions that everyone else has recently — you’re not that injured but you’re old, it’ll take time to heal completely. Unlike her predecessors she asked me if I was okay with having needles stuck in me in order to attempt to ease the pain. I’ve had this done before, so although I was nervous I agreed. I can’t say that one treatment has solved my problems, because I know it hasn’t, but I am hopeful that I am in the express lane for healing, even though it’s going on five weeks since my fall.

I will be returning to this PT next week. Because she doesn’t take my insurance I am paying out of pocket and have committed to four trips in order to get a volume discount.

Nowhere To Go
I am amused that I uploaded this photo twice, once giving it the title “Nothing To See” and the other time the title “Nowhere To Go”.

Ugh, The Weather
Depending on when you read this I am either on my way to Black Mountain, North Carolina or cursing the weather gods for dumping rain on us for the first half of this weekend. Of course you may be reading this in the future, hopefully not long after the impeachment of Donald J Trump. Today I am taking my first paid day off from “XYZ Corp”.

This weekend is the first of two trips to Black Mountain for LEAF where I will meet up with the Raleigh Royalty.

This trip has made me miss owning the Jackmobile for the first time since I sold it. The M6 is fine but I miss the Jackmobile is because I could use it as a camper by folding down the rear seats and it had an ample opening to the trunk in which I could sleep. The M6 has a much smaller opening, and in my current condition I am not sure that I could sleep inside of it so I’ll have to pitch a tent in rain, onto wet ground.

Have yourself a wonderful weekend. And if you are fortunate enough to be able to wish your mother a happy Mother’s Day on Sunday, please do so.

  1. Stopped for breakfast at Shoney’s in Lithonia. I have a feeling my political view is not shared by anyone else in this restaurant.

I had to fill up the gas tank with expensive Atlanta gas, but will make sure to stop and fill up in South Carolina upon my return Sunday.

Ooooh! Next time eat the soup, not the can. And heat up them biscuits!

    🙂

Wow, you really were up and at ’em today – good for you. Safe travels to you and hope your weekend turns out nicely.

I, too, just lamented over expensive Atlanta gas as I put some in the tank yesterday. I never get OTP anymore! Had the gas light not gone off, I might have tried to do it sometime this weekend. But this weekend I shouldn’t be driving much at all. Have an event at Fernbank tonight, a lunch with friends at Eats tomorrow and a stomp-around planned on the Beltline on Sunday. Phew! 🙂 Gonna be a lovely weekend but this old broad’s gonna need some naptime somewhere in all that.

Angels Landing done, damn that was tough. Only 2.5 miles up, but it’s pretty much all up, and then the last .5 is not for the faint of heart. My legs are toast, that was not east. Now at the pool drinking beer.

Sorry I did not check in before now. Tried while waiting at the start but no signal. 38 degrees at the start with pissing snow, which quickly turned into clear skies and wind. A good day with just enough clothing. Still a bit chilled so a bath sounds good before my nap.
