Too Late, Too Early

I struggled to get out of bed again, finally completing my morning rituals and exiting the driveway around 6:30am. With me I carried two containers of rice and black beans that were leftovers from the dinner I made last night. Freshly cooked they were fine to be eaten on their own, however as lunch I wanted to make them stuffing for burritos. Of course I have no burrito wraps in the house currently so I tried to figure out a solution to my problem. I thought I hit upon the perfect solution when I remembered the Publix that sits on the corner that once housed the Rio Shopping Center. I managed to avoid traffic and make all the green lights, things were going my way! Until, I found out that I reached Publix ten minutes before they opened. Dangen! Given the choice of waiting or making into the office ten minutes sooner, I chose the latter. I suppose that I will be eating rice and beans from a bowl of lunch, unless of course I can find a bodega in midtown and buy some tortillas. I could also drive to a grocery store at lunch, but that seems like such a waste of I gas.

Amgen WTF?
Yesterday afternoon I was a blob on a futon as I watched the Amgen Tour of California using the NBC Sports Gold app on my AppleTV. I was horrified when Cannondale-DrapacÒ€ℒs Toms Skujins apparently hit a narrow crevasse in the pavenment and wrecked badly on a descent. I was more horrified when he was “allowed”, perhaps “aided” is more appropriate, to get back on his bike when he clearly was not in command of his senses and bodily functions. Hell, he staggered around the street and fell down as he tried to start riding again. You could even hear riders on the descent yelling at him to get out of the way as they sped down the road! I’m no doctor, I don’t even play one on tv, but if I had to guess I would say that Skujins suffered a concussion on his fall. After at least ten minutes of riding Skujins did eventually abandon the race, and the medical staff took his bike away from him. I might have to prod ITP-Reader Steve for more insider information over lunch or beers someday soon.

It has to be another short blog today. I am thirty minutes late for my studying and will also be spending my lunchtime preparing for German class tonight instead of going on a search for tortillas.

Make it a great Tuesday.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Oh the dang Publix has lost a lot of my business, not opening until 7am (I knew exactly where you were going with that story when I saw “6:30am” coupled with “Publix.”) πŸ™‚ I like to be at work by 7am, which makes morning stops there impossible.

Unfortunately, the only other grocery store option even remotely convenient between home and work was the Murder Kroger, now murdered. So I’ve been SOL myself most mornings. If I were a manager of that Publix (Piedmont and North), I’d extend hours and see what it does for sales. There’s really nothing else between there and downtown.

The good news about yesterday was I didn’t hurl. If you were watching the coverage, there was a chase group going down Mt. Hamilton and I was directly behind the camera bike the whole way. I went so far as to have my passenger get a paper bag from the back seat- that’s how close I came. Damn. Other than that and the 3+ hour transfer after the race to our hotel this morning, it was a loooong day.

As far as the rider, we aren’t trained to make medical calls, though that’s something we are working on. I haven’t seen the footage yet but did hear about it. Hope he’s OK as he just seems like a good kid.

    • Hmm, that must have been interesting…

If you ever get the chance to see his wipeout and attempts to get on jos bike, you will see why I commented so. If there had been medical staff nearby there is no way he would have ever been allowed to continue.

  4. No German studying at lunch, find out why tomorrow… πŸ™‚

Sitting at the Las Vegas airport a little early, but not early enough to get an earlier flight.
Staying at the 4 Queens was an experience on Fremont Street.
The people down there are so much more “real” than the people on the Strip.
It was fun, but 1 day/night of Vegas at a time is plenty for us.
    Plus, I’m tired of drinking.
Barely gambled, Annette & I goofed off with penny slots. Maybe lost $5-10. Maybe.
