Late Is This Week’s Norm

I slept with the bedroom window open last night. After being awakened by the sound of an owl at 4:45am, I was temporariliy further awakened by the sound of an animal’s response, the likes of which I cannot identify. This creature has the yell of an animal in a zoo. Wait, has the zoo lost a monkey recently? Who knows what sort of animal could survive in my backyard jungle. I was going to attempt to record the sounds, but they stopped after the first call and response.

I must not have been too concerned because I was able to go back to sleep nearly immediately, only to be awakened by my alarm clock at 5:30am, and then fall back asleep for another thirty minutes.

I’m Walking Over Here
Though I continue to whine about pain on a daily basis I am making progress. At lunchtime yesterday I hobbled down to Savi Provisions, who don’t carry burrito wraps, and then wound my way to Publix on Spring. Hey, did you know that Publix opens at 6:45am? 🙂

By the time I hobbled back to “XYZ Corp” I had covered 1.5 miles. This is far and away the furthest I have gone since my bike fall.

I added additional yardage onto my total yesterday afternoon when I found out that Octane had a disappointing slim selection of beers in stock, so I walked to Front Page News for a beer with dinner prior to German class.

A Little Follow Up
Yesterday I referenced Rio Shopping Center (aka Rio Mall). I found this great blog post about Rio. Atlanta old-timers, like me apparently, should read this post as it may jog a memory or two.

A New Memory Will Be Made Tonight
Tonight there will be wining, not whining.

The original plan was to meet Betsy and Terri at a place called “Poor Hendrix”; inexplicably this place is closed on Wednesdays. Instead, I will be making my first trip to “Dish Dive” instead. I have a bottle of wine in the car because I have been told that Dish Dive is BYOB.

In addition to hanging out with friends, I organized this meetup so that I can return Terri’s crutches, on which I thankfully no longer rely.

More on our dinner tomorrow.

Good Wednesday to you!

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

I remember RIO. There was a High Country Outfitters there. The whole deal was sort of before it’s time. Never really a destination, at least for me. I drove past it twice a day Decatur KO Decatur.

I can’t recall what was on that block, prior to RIO. Hmmmm.

One of my favorite shots from my recent “Maine” trip”:

BTW: Plans are underway for a this Saturday “photo gang” trip to the Booth Museum in Cartersville to take in the Ansel Adams exhibit. Details forthcoming, for any with interest. If you’ve never been, the Booth Museum is a not to be missed destination.

    • When I moved to Atlanta in 1995 I worked with a woman who said her father worked for the company that built Rio, and that she and her brother helped pain the frogs.

      Love that shot. 🙂

    We are back!
Allan’s mom got stuck in some traffic jam on the connector downtown at 9pm, so we got to hang at the airport longer than we wanted last night.
Slept 9 hours last night, so happy to be in my own bed with my own pillow.

Trip was awesome, way too much hiking & walking, I hope I can keep it up, I might get in some sort of better shape if I do.
Vegas is just not my type of place, plenty of people watching for sure, but it all is there just to take your money.

And the Rio story was interesting. I remember the frogs well.

Good stage yesterday, but kinda boring, except for the PG&E truck and trailer blocking the KoM. Unhitch and cone it off. Roll on.

A frog was a first prize at a bike race s long time ago.
