I’m A Man Without A Plan

As I continue to flutter through this life unattached, and continually trying to figure out what I want out of it, I frustrate myself.

“Sell the house, move to the mountains!”
“Fix up the house, live there the rest of your life!”
“Sell everything that doesn’t fit in the M6 and travel!”

If I could just make “A Plan” I feel as if I would be better off. I thought that my nine-month hiatus would’ve helped, but it did not.

A Tale Of Two Bike Shops
When I signed up for Jackson Brevet I was full of piss and vinegar to ride, ride, ride. I have not had much cycle lust after my fall.

Also when I signed up for Jackson Brevet I thought that the packet pickup was at Atlanta Cycling on Piedmont as I remembered it being last year. I was wrong, it was at Peachtree Bikes in Buckhead. About the only good thing I can say about this was that I found a street parking lot and after inserting 15ร‚ยข into the parking meter I realized that there was enough time on the meter already for me to go in and out.

Am I going to ride tomorrow? I still don’t know, all signs point toward “Unlikely”.

How do you know you are working for a company that caters to millennials? The company has a humongous stuffed teddy bear, whose name is naturally “Ted E. Bear” or so says his name badge.

Back To Plays Worth Seeing
Last night’s trip to Horizon Theatre was worthwhile even if I didn’t get dinner for fear of being caught in the downpour that never happened.

“How to Use a Knife” is typical theater – implausible serious themes mixed with a bit of humor. The plot follows a down-and-out chef who has taken a position at his former line cook’s restaurant. The chef, who ruined his career with drugs and alcohol, befriends the dishwasher who we find out used to be a soldier in Rwanda and now is being sought for War Crimes. Each man has deep-rooted secrets revealed throughout the 115 minute play, with no intermission. This last fact may be the worst thing about the play, as it’s a lost opportunity for the theater to sell more alcohol, and it deprives the patrons the ability to pee mid-play. Though there were some minor slip ups, the performances of the four main actors were really strong.

Taking Liberties
I woke early enough to drive all the way to LA Fitness In Ansley Mall. The irony of driving past 17th Street, the exit I would take for the Atlantic Station LA Fitness in order to go to Ansley Mall was not lost on me. However, I am not in the mood to be rushed today.

I am currently ruining that workout with a lovely and relaxing breakfast at Folk Art before I head into “XYZ Corp”‘s office.

This afternoon I will be meeting my friends Hank and Bill at Eleventh Street Pub, a place I frequented twenty-two years ago when it was then the original location of The Vortex.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

    Analysis paralysis.

Too many choices causes this, like trying to buy toothpaste at the grocery store. Can’t we just to back to 3 choices again (Crest, Colgate, or Aquafresh) versus 82 iterations of the original 3? Cut your choices down to “stay in Atlanta” or “leave Atlanta”. Once you pick one or the other, the rest of it will get markedly easier. A plan is completely within your grasp once you get out of your own way.

We attempted a bike ride on the Silver Comet last night – I had originally talked to Laura (aka Martha) about it earlier in the week, and she had to bail at the last minute. Allan figured out how to get there from downtown, and I got to sit in some fun 285 traffic. It was sweltering & sunny at the start (mile -1 in front of Smyrna Bikes on the East West Conn). We got about 1 mile & it got super windy, I really thought a tree would fall on us. Then it started raining too, not very hard, so we kept going. We had to dodge a lot of debris on the trail, and it got really dark, so I couldn’t see since I had worn sunglasses.
Got out to the Silver Comet Depot (5 miles) and decided it would be best to turn around. OF course, by the time we got back to the cars, it had stopped raining & was almost nice again. 10 miles seemed like a whole lot more last night.

Tonight I think I’m going to go to a girls night outing at the House of Mabel – I’m trying to convince Allan to be my driver & hang out with Mango, that way I’d grab Kat to go with me.

Wait – WHAT? 11th Street Pub used to be the Vortex? How can that be? It’s SO TINY! I used to play trivia there when it was Charlie G’s and Yassir was DJ-ing. A whole group of us used to go — were you part of that? I can’t remember. Anyway, that stopped when I moved all the way out to Woodstock. SO happy I’m not in Woodstock anymore.

I ventured to Atlantic Station yesterday after work to visit the ATL UTD team store to see if there was anything reasonable I could get to wear to my first game on Saturday. Nope. Not only were prices stupid (which I figured they would be), but there wasn’t even anything cute. Like, big boxy boy t-shirts, but nothing really for women at all. Bah. So I left, grabbed some snacks at Publix to bring to the park later and thought of you as I was leaving the parking deck well under my 2 hour limit. Damn, it’s easy to get lost in that parking garage. Thankfully I remembered to take a picture of the parking pole before I went in or I definitely would have had issues finding my car again (I thought I was on P1 and wandered around there for a while before checking my photos and saw: huh! P2).

Last night we braved the weather and went to Piedmont Park for a free Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performance. It was wonderful! In addition to some classics, they added in some Beatles, David Bowie and Queen. It was threatening to storm all night but never did. Because of it, the weather was amazing! Highly recommend this event to everyone reading (I hear it’s only once a year though?).

    I LOVE TED E!

Stacy – I’ve been wanting to get my nephew an Atlanta United jersey, but I figured they are way too expensive. Have you looked online? Is there anywhere cheaper? I haven’t felt like trying to find my way around Atlantic Station, that’s the other reason I haven’t sent anything to him yet.

      • Stacy says:

I haven’t done too much looking, Barb. I’m one of those folks where I know I’ll want something, but I’m very OK to wait until next season if I have to. You know at some point they’ll get down to the Walmart/Target type levels. More my price range. ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Barb says:

I will totally with you, I will wait until I see something I like, for a price I don’t think is ridiculous. I realized I have no Braves gear either, Allan has a jersey from long ago that is too small for him, I guess I should see how big it in on me.

    • I thought of you when I saw the radar, how we didn’t get at least an inch of rain last night confused me. Glad you weren’t rained on.

I had a chance to go to the game tomorrow night and passed. I don’t know what the heck I will be doing, but not being a soccer fan I didn’t want to claim the ticket.

      • Barb says:

We did get rained on – but not quite as much as I thought we would. maybe it was the trees covering part of the trail.

We just got free Braves tickets for tomorrow afternoon – 4pm game. I thought about saying no, but hey – its with some fun friends, and its completely free. Well, except the over priced everything at the ball field. We will eat before, and then after, somewhere outside the park, so I’ll just buy 1 overpriced beer inside.

  4. I failed to remember to time my workout/shower today. Phooey!
