This blast of cold air has me hiding under the covers again.

Businesses with presence at Woodruff Arts Center are really trying to lose me as a customer. (top: Wells Fargo; bottom: Octane Coffee or whatever they are called these days)

  1. You know you have done a poor job staying in touch with friends when they have no idea who you are as you drive past them waving “Hi!”. This happened to me this morning…

I was speaking to a woman I know from the bike race world Friday and could not for the life of me remember her name. I could remember lots of other details, but that little tidbit escaped me. Sunday, I remembered…

Debbie’s godson has achieved his Eagle rank in the Boy Scouts and will have his ceremony a week from Sunday. I am now in charge of creating a keepsake- a slice of an 18″ log that his troop and all can sign. The slice was cut last night and I attempted to experiment hand plane-ing it smooth. As it’s end-grain, that didn’t work too well (and it could have been the plane operator). Today I’ll stop by the Lowes and purchase equipment to do the job!! More toys! N + 1!!

    Lunch, Paulie?

(Very) low water pressure, our neighborhood, City of Decatur.
    (Water main break Buford Highway.)
    Many near us have…no water.

Our YMCA is closed, COD schools opening on 2-hour delay, so far.
Has to be affecting local businesses.

Mechanical contractor F-i-L (does a ton of work at Emory) advises “It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better…”

Pro tip: Have (many) gallon jugs of water stored in your basement to use for…flush water.

We have several stashed for power outages. When you’re on a well, the water is there as long as the power is on.

I just heard Dekallb/Decatur schools is now closed today because of this.
we do NOT have a bunch of gallons of water in the basement -guess maybe we should.

Still no real news on the job offer – a few emails about what vacation I already have planned, and I’m still waiting. They were meeting late yesterday……….
should hear something today – I hope – I really want this to be over with, one way or the other.

Rumors are flying at the AFR about understaffing in the field – they have a new interim Chief, so changes in the big shots. They are realizing now many well trained firefighters are doing bullshit jobs (as in inspections). So – there is a little light at the end of the tunnel. They have to send in a “letter” requesting going back to the field. Allan is afraid they will then send them to training. But – on the good news, just more to pad his resume if that happens.

And- we watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, MO last night
Good movie – really enjoyed it. I see why Frances McDormund got the Oscar.
One of the few perks of still spending money to get Netflix DVDs…….. we get to see current movies.
and -we have Ladybird to watch tonight.

(I give up with trying to post.)
Steve, a slice of end grain will check significantly, unless stabilized prior to finishing. Plane end grain with a low (blade) angle of attack. JG/HamWithCam

I’m buying a power planer (hand) and a belt sander this afternoon. I have one slice I’m practicing on before I try it on the actual piece.

  8. The heat in the office tricked me into thinking that it would be a good idea to walk to the Amazon Store on 5th and pick up my deliveries. In my current state I took three steps outside before turning around and returning to my desk. Phooey!

  9. Steve says:

Chilly and breezy outside. I walked to Willies by the park. Then the long way back to the orifice- the mounted patrol was out grazing in the park. Nice to see them out.
