Really fun weekend of camping in Jasper. Even in these times Tamara and her friends were very welcoming of an American stranger, and I learned a lot about Canadian train system… 🙂

Who needs a cooler when you have an ice-cold river running nearby?
Canadian Refrigeration

Going to have to start doing a lot of walking today to counter the calories I have been ingesting.

    Nice cooler!
Nothing too exciting for us all weekend, went mtn biking, finished off watching Bosch on Amazon Prime (we are considering dropping Prime, as we really don’t order that much to justify the price). I need to see what other shows are on there, before we cancel.
Wanted to go to Black Sheep yesterday, but we were asked to help a friend move her father’s stuff into storage. (He’s in assisted living, and he’s actually the original friend from the Parrotheads). Well – it wasn’t as much stuff as I thought, so we could have blown it off & done something a little more fun. Oh well………..
We did drop by Breaststroke’s house for a dip in her pool – it was a lovely thing to do later in the afternoon. She had to go to dinner, so we had the place to ourselves.

  2. Oh yeah, hashing with Edmonton H3 tonight. Supposed to be a shiggy trail, you’ll find out tomorrow. 😉

My bias against Cobb County in general was hardened further this weekend. The South Cobb Aquatic Center is an example of what it would look like if the TSA ran a public pool. We were even questioned as to whether we were wearing underwear before entering the pool.

I love how pedestrians will block the entire goddamn Beltline trail to have a conversation or let their dog drag the leash across the trail aimlessly, but nonetheless have no compunction about yelling “SLOW DOWN” at bikes. Trust me, I am paying *way* more attention to what’s ahead of me on my bike than the walkers are. Some other pedestrian yelled at me for not stopping at the stop light in the protected bike lane on 10th Street. What’s the judges ruling here? In my mind there’s not a separate bike lane traffic light, and the entrance to the park is blocked off there. As long as there’s no people or cars in the way I keep on going. It was still a good ride.

I would certainly slow down at the light, as there are pedestrians coming out of the park, otherwise F ’em.

I swear I cut the grass last Tuesday or Wednesday, but because it’s monsoon season, it is already high. Enough with the rain, already.

So sorry I missed the Cheesey Yellow TdF partay. After Debbie arrived home at 11:00 Saturday evening, having spent Friday night and all day with her mom at AtlMedCtr, I decided we should spend some time together.

And how about that TdF!! This has been a rough weekend for the favorites as well as an American up-and-comer.

      • Oh yeah, I meant to tell Dave that I couldn’t make it this year…

With no cell coverage in Jasper and being blocked from live streaming in Canada I am completely out of the TdF loop. See also: World Cup

I always slow down for pedestrians. Yesterday the person bitching was off to the side, not poised to cross. Plus I was going up the hill, which is a fraction of the speed I attain when coming back down. Getting to that mile long hill is exactly why I navigate the Beltline. Good workout going up, nice rush coming back down.

Some other do-gooder yelled at us recently for riding bikes on the sidewalk to get to the Beltline. Sometimes the damn sidewalk is the only safe place to be in this city.

        • Barb says:

the few times I’ve been out on the Beltline – it really doesn’t seem very bike friendly – too damn many people. It is definitely a cruiser bike speed.
And – I agree on the sidewalk – sometimes you GOTTA ride on the sidewalk.

South Cobb Aquatic Center – where the heck is that?
I looked it up – Austell – I can just imagine what is going on out there.
      Why were you out there?

I’ve only been to 1 Cobb county pool – just to check it out – and it seemed pretty laid back – I just looked it up, its call the Central Aquatic Center.

My kids had an opportunity to meet some of their classmates there. I’ve heard good things about that facility for years, but it’s now on the “been there, done that” list for me. To make things more bizarre there was a DJ blaring music, along with the lifeguards blowing their whistles constantly for infractions real or perceived. Definite sensory overload.

I knew nothing about Austell, so I didn’t think much about going beforehand. Good to know that the Central one is more laid back. To it’s credit the Austell one has an old-school diving board, which isn’t something you see very often any more, and that I truly didn’t expect to see in a government-owned facility.

        • Barb says:

I think (but can’t remember for sure) that the one on the 120 South Loop/Fairground had real driving boards too. Now I want to run by there and look.

I’m back from vacation and boy oh boy! 🙂 This was one of the lovelier ones! I did so much that the trip felt like it was a month long. It feels weird to be back. But I’m happy to be. Now for unpacking/unloading all the stuff that Mom gave me. Oh, and let’s be real: all the Wisconsin beers I brought back with me.

    • Steve says:

      I could help “unpack” those!!

      • Barb says:

and how many cases if beer did you bring back????
AND – we need to plan out outing to Culvers – now that I know where it is, and it isn’t “that” far away.

        • Stacy says:

I brought a lot of specialty beers back, so bunches of 4 packs, 6 packs, etc. I’m mix-and-matching them for friends who wanted some. Though I also specifically brought back New Glarus for some friends too.

Yes please on the Culvers! Actually never made it over there this trip. I did have cheese curds though: twice. 🙂 Pics on the Instagram, of course!

Welcome back! The blog wasn’t the same without you.

  5. 66°F, dressed in shorts and t-shirt, sweating as I walk this morning; it’s what I do.

Sitting in a diner awaiting breakfast.

    • Not sure how accurate my Apple Watch is, but it claims I walked 12.5 miles (not kilometers) so far today. I’m tired enough to believe this.

      • Barb says:

holy cow- where all are you walking today?

        • I walked from Tamara’s house to downtown Edmonton (about 4 miles), around downtown, and then a not-very-direct route back looking for an open brewery and vegetarian restaurant (failing at both). Put sunscreen on, but not enough, so I won’t be surprised if I am burned tomorrow.

        • Also, the weather is great (sunny and now about 75°F) and I was looking for photos, finding none.

  6. “I went to Edmonton and got a sunburn” is not something I expected to say on this trip.
