I’ll give my effort for dinner making last night a six out of ten. In replaying my construction of the sweet potato soup I realized that I added too much canned tomatoes with their juice, which may have accounted for the over-watery consistency of the soup; to me it felt as if I were eating a bowl of pico de gallo. If/When I have another go at this I will definitely cut back on the tomatoes and have a stick blender ready to thicken up the finished product.

a stick blender – I like that name.
I told Allan I needed an immersion blender – he said I didn’t.

We went to see a friend’s kid (he’s 21) sing at an open mic night – he played at 9pm, not too far away.
He’s didn’t do too bad, and I don’t know if he realizes yet he’s not going to make any money doing this, but hey – he’s young – right?

Friday evening – we have to pickup up the in-laws approx. 9pm at the airport – thinking about having dinner somewhere in town or even Hapeville, College Park, etc.
Any ideas and anyone want to join us?

    • I’ll be getting cold and foraging for fire wood at Hard Labor State Park on Friday night.

we thought about going, but then Allan was supposed to work Saturday, but he may now have the day off if his hamstring is still bothering him.
He hasn’t worked for a few shifts – messed up hamstring makes it tough to climb in & out of the fire engine, etc.

What Paulie said. Though those areas are on my list to explore more…

We are trying another meal service. Home Chef is a solid 2 for 2. Debbie made meatballs with rice and sautéed string beans on Tuesday and I made beef lo mien with broccoli last night. I didn’t see how much prep Debbie did, but mine was very minimal- cut broccoli, mince garlic, dry the pre-cut beef before throwing it in the pan. It still needed “something”, but I’d do it again.

Talked the bus driver into a “courtesy stop” at the garage since it was pouring rain. $500 later, I have new serpentine and AC belts, a tune up with very expensive spark plugs (they are expensive even at the auto parts store) and refurbished headlight lenses. I don’t know if that service was worth the cost, but they do look brand new.

    • I saw commercials (!) for Home Chef while watching old Top Chef episodes on Hulu last night. There must be (have been) good profit in that market for so many services to be created.

Ugh, hopefully the repair will keep you running for a good long while.

I’ve considered the Home Chef idea – but I don’t mind going to the grocery store, and don’t mind cooking. My problem is getting an idea of what to cook next. And – now that the firehouse Allan is at cooks breakfast & dinner, we have to cut back on the leftovers – so we are working on how to cook smaller portions.

We have been very happy with Hello Fresh. With our crazy schedule the time to plan out and prepare a meal just doesn’t always happen. With Hello Fresh we always have a healthy meal ready to go, otherwise there would be a lot of breakfast for dinner 🙂

  4. Heard a little Dave Brubeck music played on a Late Night with Steven Colbert clip this morning so I am now jamming to the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s “Time Out” album.

Didn’t know I appreciated jazz, did you?

  5. Steve says:

Judging by your other musical tastes… no.

I have pinged the mizzus about dinner possibilities Friday. Opening hunt is Saturday, so we might be otherwise obligated.
