The original plan was to get to the Waschsalon this morning, that fell apart when I fell back asleep.

The new plan is to get into work and get out as early as possible so that I have time to run some errands in Buckhead before coming home to pack the car for what appears will be a rain-soaked LEAF this weekend.

On Sunday I’ll add my wet, muddy clothes to the already-sorted laundry for a trip to the Waschsalon on Monday morning.

Apparently in the post-Prohibition era the term speakeasy now signals an establishment where they’re not gonna spend a lot on atmosphere. At least that’s my take-away from going to Cardinal last night in the Beacon complex. Cheese plate was good though.

    • Barb says:

Interesting concept as to why they don’t spend money on atmosphere.

I saw the Beacon complex from the “not open” Southside trail Saturday – someday I’ll get into town to go to some of these spots. Stacy pointed it out.

    • Bonnie says:

As excited as I was about the Beacon, I thin I’ve only been there once for a group holiday party. It just seems a little too fancy (and pricey) for me, but I don’t think I’ve given all the establishments a fair shake. When I’m free again (in June!), perhaps I’ll ride my bike over there and check something out. Or… maybe just end up at Eventide again. 😁

      • ITP Lurker says:

It’s all definitely pricey, I think the landlord is capitalizing on the dirt Beltline on setting rental rates, which means I generally feel gouged when I go there. The parking lot was full last night, so it’s apparently attracting people. We saw some football player with his entourage and security detail. That was entertaining to watch for a minute. I have no idea who he was, other than someone that clearly had too much money.

    • My enthusiasm for The Beacon waned when I took the tour and the developer said that there wasn’t going to be many restaurants or a food hall. In that location, those things would KILL, especially as more people live near, and use, the south side Beltline.

I love me some Eventide, but need chow to combat the alcohol.

We tried Buteco, because Patria Concina closed at 9, right when we got there. Food was good, but we ended up getting a couple of fried items that were a bit much. Black bean soup was good though. Buteco’s cool Brazilian music was overwhelmed by some godawful music from the “bowling with footballs” place next door, so we had to choose our patio seating strategically.

I was debating between the Wash Salon and grocery shopping after work tonight. Since the pantry is bare, the groceries are going to win out. Which is fine with me because I love grocery shopping! Wash Salon can wait until Saturday morning.

Busy weekend on tap! Going to a “Winston Churchill and the Civil War Lecture and Wine Reception” tomorrow night…looked interesting, so figured why not. It’s at the Millennial Gate museum in Atlantic Station if anyone’s interested (though I know y’all aren’t all geeks like I 🙂 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/winston-churchill-and-the-civil-war-lecture-and-wine-reception-tickets-59406019002?aff=ebapi). Davey & Chew2’s wedding reception on Saturday then. The only disappointment there is that I can’t volunteer for one of my annual beer festivals (Wild Beer Fest at WB), since gagnabbit, on the same day. At least they’re holding it at a brewery! Sunday looks a little eerily free right now…. am I forgetting something….? Might have to see if I can fit a walk in there somewhere.

    • Barb says:

Saturday should be fun, Davey was asking me about all the tents we had at Cheddarhead – just in case. The fact they invited a “million” people to this reception could make it for a packed house!!!

I’m free Sunday – Allan is working all weekend. No idea what’s on the agenda for me.

      • Stacy Fox says:

Yeah, bless his heart! 🙂 Been messaging him a bit this morning; he’s worried about that “90% chance of rain” forecast. I keep telling him it’ll be gone before we get there (you know…giving him false hopes and all). Rain’s a good luck thing for weddings though, isn’t it?

If I find anything interesting for Sunday, I’ll give you a shout Barb! Is Allan working? Because it looks like there’s a festival in Sweet Auburn this weekend. If I’m not mistaken he’s the closest firehouse? (https://www.sweetauburn.com/)

        • Barb says:

that is definitely his territory, but his firehouse is being renovated, so they are working out of Station 1, on Elliott Street (next to the pub). They HATE it – traffic to their territory & back sucks. I might be interested into coming into town Sunday – that could be interesting!

I’d like to rice my bike Sunday, but who knows if the weather will cooperate for that.

    • Bonnie says:

I’m sad I have to miss the wedding reception. 🙁

    • ITP Lurker says:

I do have to poke at you Stacy, it’s the Millennium Gate, but yes, you’ll probably encounter some Millenials there as well. 😉

Last night was our 1st night with 100% no kitchen.
Grilled some pork chops, made a salad & ate other leftovers – I think we will be eating most meals on the deck, as it is more convenient.
Then got to do dishes in the shop sink in the laundry room. This will take a little getting used to, but it wasn’t too bad.
No ice maker is strange too – need ice to make a smoothie in the morning.
No idea where I packed the ice cube trays (I had some I found in the back of one cabinet). Guess we will go buy a bag of ice here & there.

  4. Steve says:

Packed and ready to roll to Augusta at lunchtime. I hope your predictions of rain will not impact our racing much.

Despite some knee pain, managed to cut the grass last night- probably helped the knee stretch out a bit. Not as painful today.

75/85 South at 166 was down to one lane this morning. Everyone had to get off onto the 166 ramps to get by a fatality accident. You know it’s big if NPR mentions it,

    • Steve says:

Barb, is TJ coming to Augusta? Shimano is doing support. Jose with Look was kinda weird when I mentioned TJ at Anniston- don’t know if he’s on the outs.

      • Barb says:

        I don’t know, but I’m don’t think so, he didn’t mention it.
I’ll ask. “They” (I never know who They is FYI) wanted him to go Tour of CA – but he wasn’t up for that. Kevin is out there, so I know he wanted to go tos ee his son. (I don’t know who Kevin is working for either – I’m a terrible relative)
He has been under the weather for a few weeks, he’s finally feeling a little better – maybe that is why Jose was acting strange?

  5. Bonnie says:

While I should be preparing for my trip, lost a good part of the day yesterday dealing with a sick Willow cat. She has yet ANOTHER severe UTI. Got a bunch of meds and have to work hard to coax her to eat. Good thing we’re not leaving the country this weekend… oh wait. 😢😢😢 I hope the petsitter can get the job done (administer meds and get her to eat enough) and she gets better.

    • I’m sure Willow is just sad that her favorite lap in which to sleep won’t be around for a few weeks.

Thanks for lending me one of your camping chairs. I still hope to purchase one (again) today.

    • Steve says:

C’mon Willow! Stop messing with your momma’s mind and get better!!

    • Bonnie says:

Oh, and after she gets over this round, we have to further discuss with the vet her possibly being medicated daily for the rest of her life. Awesome. 😢

  6. Glad I didn’t wait until after work to run my errands in Buckhead. Holy moly is it raining out there now.
