Thanks to the Georgia DOT’s lane changes/closures I am constantly frustrated driving through Decatur now. It may be time for me to stop driving through/to Decatur, and essentially boycotting all its businesses.

I’ve felt that way about Decatur for decades, I just don’t “get” that part of town, despite trying my best.

I rode at least 25 miles on the Beltline yesterday, starting and ending at the Krog tunnel rode to Armour Circle (beyond Peabody, oh, no, wait, PIEDMONT…Park), then all the way to Washington Park, and then back to the tunnel. Also, kudos to Music Midtown for not just blocking off the 10th Street Bike Lane, but instead using a car lane on 10th to create a temporary bike lane. That’s a very nice precedent.

For anyone that hasn’t been on the Southside trail yet, here’s a pictorial tour: https://atlanta.curbed.com/atlanta-photo-essays/2019/9/6/20848197/atlanta-beltline-southside-trail-photos-tips

      Haha 😉

      And, *fist bump* Lurker!

Thank you, Bonnie! 👊🏻 on your 43 miles! I started to bonk about 20 miles in and had to work to find something edible at a food desert convenience store.

Also, I figured out a second way to get to the other half of the Westside trail. When the first second ends, take the dirt path to the right. Eventually this will become the real Beltline but for now they did some smoke and mirrors with an existing PATH trail to make the concrete seem longer.

  2. In other news, I had a good weekend, hashing on Saturday, and riding an exhausting 43 miles at Silk Sheets with Bonnie yesterday.

    • Barb says:

43 miles – weren’t you too energetic??? what time did you go ride?
it was HOT Sunday – we went out Mtn biking – I was still tired from Saturday so I didn’t ride as many miles as I would have liked.
but – we had a mini BRAG family gathering, Sal, Bob, Mike mtn biked with us.
A few beers after the ride so we had time to catch up a little.

      • Bonnie says:

First time for me to ride Silk Sheets. The ride Kicked. My. Ass. I probably didn’t eat enough for breakfast (but I wanted to lose weight!), it was hot, and I’m just not in good enough shape 😂. So instead, I ate like a crazy person the rest of the day. Whoops. But glad I did it and will do it again, perhaps a little shorter route next time… How did I do all that riding for Spring Tune-Up??? Thanks to Paulie for driving and hauling my bike that doesn’t seem to fit on my bike rack. Oh, and for letting me steal all your snacks 😂.

    • We were wheels down from Cochran Mill Park around 9:30am. For me it was fine for the first thirty miles, but the final thirteen were hot and exhausting. I was rationing water the final ten miles. We had two options for shortcuts, but were as stubborn as Steve’s jackass and refused to take them. 😂

Saw some pics from the mountain biking. Looks as if you all had fun.

Stood in the pretty hot sun Friday morning and early afternoon at SMP, hawking the Games. Passed out a lot of flyers. Spoke to lots of folks who all seemed excited about the event- always a good sign.

Debbie’s ankle is officially broken. She only walked on it for 5 days. Too swollen for the ortho to put a permanent cast on, so she has a temp until Wednesday. She found a “knee scooter” for sale nearby, and I picked it up Friday afternoon. Painted British racing green… funny.

Got a little ride in Saturday evening, pulling out “Lost Donkey” signs down. I don’t know if it was the blood thinners or what, but just about passed out getting off the bike. Very odd.

A nice ride to dust off the scooter Sunday.

  4. I wish insurance adjustments would fall in my favor every once in a while. In addition to the $800 I paid the day of the nuclear stress test, I’m now being told that I owe an additional $600. And, this $1400 (total) is addition to the $380 I paid for the non-nuclear stress test.

I wish that I were on Steve’s health plan.

  5. Bonnie says:

Paulie, you can’t boycott all of Decatur’s businesses! We can take MARTA to at least some of them. 😁

  6. Barb says:

you guys coming up to East Ccobb for Moonlight hash tonight?

  7. HamWithCam says:

    What?!
    Boycott Decatur businesses?!
(And just when we’re putting in “bike lanes” on Commerce.)

    • No specific business. I’m frustrated with the road changes. It started with the removal of one lane in each direction of Dekalb Av. Now, only one lane of Commerce southbound goes straight at Ponce. Then, there was the change of lane behavior on Commerce at Trinity. I don’t see how any of these changes improved traffic flow.

      My two cents.

Perhaps this means I cycle/MARTA to Decatur instead…
