With my two nearly-daily chores — dish washing, clothes washing and hanging — behind me, I’ve rewarded myself with breakfast. Since mentioning a couple of weeks ago that I had not hard-boiled eggs since Shelter In Place started I have done so twice now; both times using my Instant Pot. Delicious!

Though warm and humid I did manage 45 minutes on the trainer yesterday morning. Still trying to keep that weight under 200 pounds (at least on my scale).

I had to venture out into the world yesterday afternoon to pick up an online order at Target. Since I knew I’d have to go inside to retrieve my purchase, thus requiring the wearing of a mask, I also knocked out a trip to Lowe’s to buy some hardware store items and to think about future ITP Estate projects I will attempt to accomplish.

Upon returning home I hopped onto an impromptu Zoom Happy Hour with a few of my old German classmates, attempted to knock out a few minor chores, and then passed out on the bed.

For dinner last night I once again used the Instant Pot (shocker!) to make Instant Pot Green Lentils and Spinach Curry. Of course I am rarely satisfied with recipes as they are written, so I threw in chunks of tofu that I had roasted in my toaster oven.

I was hoping to pop out into the yard this morning for a couple of hours to keep knocking back the jungle, but alas I couldn’t motivate myself to do so. Unless it’s raining buckets at daybreak tomorrow expect to read that I was out there fighting the good fight.

Finally, I have been alerted that the gutter cleaners I have hired, a project I am no longer willing to attempt, will be arriving today between 2-4pm.

Hope you are remaining well friends.

    Yay, you found tofu!

Yesterday out of nowhere the husband felt compelled to pay his respects to Rayshard Brooks so we walked to Ebenezer Baptist Church and watched the service outside on a big screen TV. I was surprised there weren’t more people congregated there, but I guess the big crowds turned out to be near the infamous Wendy’s where the funeral procession was to pass by. We both ended up with our photos in the AJC and me also on Twitter, and my quote wasn’t exactly what I said, but oh well.

Of course we got a treat on the Beltline on the walk home. I had the most expensive beer I think I’ve ever had at Pour Taproom, a pint of an Arches IPA for a total of 11.50 including tax and tip (that the very sub-par staff member didn’t deserve). I don’t feel the need to visit there again, and shame on me for not asking the price beforehand.

I plan to run or bike this morning in-between rain showers.

    • I found the expensive organic tofu at Kroger last time I was there.

Just looked for the photos. Found one with your hubby seated. I think you need to teach him how to wear a mask properly. 😉😂

Ha, I know! He kept taking it on and off to drink water, and he didn’t quite get it back on that time. Ugh.

Good for you to go to the funeral. I’ve had to block some folks on FB since they are annoying me severely. Some, on the Games committee, I have no choice but to work with, so I have to keep the peace. Trying to keep my sanity in these crazy times is my first priority.

And speaking of crazy.. after weeks on a stable network and connectivity, between the Fed having issues and my MiFi having issues, it was a long day yesterday. I think a total of 8 reboots to recover! Ugh.

Rode the trainer myself. The winds picked up, which I thought was a front coming through and I didn’t want to ride the road in the wind. 40 minutes with FTP intervals- fun!

The nurse/LPN is already here tending to the patient. The dogs were less that watchful- she knocked on the door right at 8 and there wasn’t the first bark. Useless, I say.

I don’t know the whole story or what really went down of course, and it appears he broke some laws that day and didn’t use good judgement, but I don’t think it was necessary to shoot him in the back based on what I’ve seen. It was difficult to be interviewed because I’m not necessarily “on” either side (generally speaking “Black Lives Matter” or “the police”) and it’s hard to answer questions without coming off sounding like you are on one side or the other. Reporters’ questions kind of box you in and/or lead you.

The spinach didn’t disintegrate after 20 minutes in the Instant Pot? I may add some of this person’s recipes to my list as I have a lot of lentils I need to use.

    • Well, you know I changed it… 🙄

I added the tofu and spinach after the Instant Pot finished the twenty minute cooking and a ten minute natural release. I recovered the pot and let it sit, unplugged, for five minutes before dishing out my food. I also did not mash the lentils as I didn’t think it was necessary.

I ate it served over some brown basmati rice that I made, you guessed it, using the Instant Pot earlier in the afternoon.

By the way, Red’s Beer Garden (https://www.redsbeergarden.com/) on Boulevard, near the prison, is offering a free beer on July 4 to anyone that comes in with a screenshot of a run or bike ride that occurred that day. The back patio has nicely spaced picnic tables.

    • I’ve seen that on their Instagram. I wonder how many Yahoos, other than myself, will show up for a free beer… 🙄 And I’m more of a drink at that abandoned car wash guy… 😂

      • ITP Lurker says:

I’m planning to go, and there’s a back exit you can use for choosing you own private car wash stall.

    • Bonnie says:

I really like Red’s. And the car wash. 😁 It’s possible I may stop by there after my exercise that day. In one of the posts it mentions it’s a lager beer you get, but I suppose I will need some “water” after my exercise anyway… 😉

      • The last post I saw said a “free draft beer”. Of course they could have nothing but lagers on draft that day… 😂

      • ITP Lurker says:

I really like Red’s too. And I *really* never imagined I’d *ever* be excited to have a beer down by the prison. But here we are. 🙂 Next up I need to avail myself of prison tacos at the carniceria that I keep hearing about.

I used to use that car wash regularly back in the day, and it always seemed busy. I’m not clear how/why it went out of business.

      • I wonder if the economics of car washes is like that of Chinese buffets, since I have seen many of each go out of business in the past ten years.

I’ve only ate Prison Tacos once, they were good, but since I am not eating much meat these days…

        • Steve Brady says:

Ummm tacos! A friend posted a picture from a place in Auburn, AL that looked like the real deal. Always need destinations to dust off the scooter.

        • Some of the best tacos I have eaten in GA were at a joint attached to a Shell station west northwest of Athens. It’s probably been a decade (or more) since I ate there, I probably blogged about it. 😁

        • Just like “there is a tweet for everything” with Trump, “there is nearly a blog post for everything” with me.

          On June 7, 2010 I wrote:
“If I were to tell you that I ate dinner at a restaurant which was once a Waffle House and is attached to a Shell station you might think I wasted one of my Life’s meals. How wrong you’d be. I ate three delicious tacos — lengua, pastor, and barbacoa — at this tiny establishment called Taqueria El Sol De Zacatecaz. If I ever return to Athens I’ll also return to this place to eat.”

According to Google it’s now another location of the Sr Sol chain in Athens.

  5. ITP Lurker says:

I draw the line at lengua tacos, I do not want my food tasting me back. 😉

On the topic of restaurants, two new businesses coming to Summerhill, another hotdog place that incidentally has a vegan option, and a donut shop/burgers and other stuff. Don’t know if you guys can read this AJC article or not: https://www.ajc.com/blog/atlanta-restaurants/hot-dog-pete-open-summerhill-with-doughnuts-follow-this-summer/Hz3OSZeCjVKXCeBzK6154I/?utm_source=Iterable&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=campaign_1310096
