Is it possible to vacillate between stages?

I had many bad moments this weekend, and a lot of dark, self-destructive thoughts. The past six weeks have been excruciating, and unfortunately things are not getting better for me.

I am trying to take steps to heal myself through separation, seeking replacements for hashing (sadly), enacting a moratorium from talking about certain hashers, and looking for professional therapy.

This blog may turn into a “Wordle Update” for the foreseeable future if for no other reason to let you know that I haven’t offed myself.

I solved today’s Wordle in three attempts; my starter today was GRATE

  1. NYT Mini Crossword in 24 seconds.

  2. David says:

My real email is in my recent posts, including this one. I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned and accomplished through therapy and make some referral suggestions via email or over lunch. I was vociferously opposed to therapy until my first session, and then my mindset completely shifted.

Wordle in 3 with LEAST, NYT Mini in 34 secs.

    • Thank you. I will reach out to you next week, and see when it is convenient for us to meet.

Betsy, who is in the industry, is also helping me find someone.

      • David says:

Whether you realize it or not you’re beyond the first step. I’m here to help in anyway, if and when you reach out. No worries if you don’t.

  3. Steve says:

Your first success is that you recognize that you need help, so there is that. You are stronger than you realize and you will make it through this.

Wordle in 2! Mini in under 2 (if I could spell…)

    -FP

  4. Huh, I guess I hit something hard and sharp on the road bike yesterday, the rear tire is missing a patch of rubber! Add “replace tire” to my To Do list as I plan to ride tomorrow night.

    • Steve says:

I rode 15 on the CX bike and I could tell the covid hit my lungs. Ugh. This may be a while to recover.

I also took a lovely scooter ride into Alabama Saturday. Just wandering around lost, or at least without a particular destination. Getting my butt in shape for Missouri.

    • David says:

Atlanta streets are just treacherous. I feel like I have single-handedly kept the inner tube industry alive and well.

  5. Barb says:

Good weekend – I’ll get to the Mini & Wordle a little later.

Friday night I texted with some friends we rarely see, and ended up with them out for dinner then Burnt Hickory for a couple beers. I like that brewery, they aren’t a “kid friendly” type of place, and the beers are pretty good too.

Saturday we delivered a wine rack to a friend that had gifted it to us, and needed it back. We don’t have a spot for it right now (and don’t need it), so it was no biggie to give it back. She gave us to good bottles as a trade, we totally won on that deal. Her hubby has a HUGE Slot car race track in the basement, that he’s getting all fixed up, should be a fun party once its all done. I don’t know much about slot cars, but this track looks awesome.

Saturday night was Derby watching at a friends – what an end to a race!

Sunday I went to brunch to hear a friends kid sing – it was nice to see that group of friends.
Then I went to Ironmonger to meet the hashers that weren’t doing trail, and then to the ending for a little while. I wasn’t in the mood for the hash, so left before circle. There was some trail drama we heard about – cops said some couldn’t go thru a tunnel under 75, and a homeowner wouldn’t let people go thru the creek behind his house.

Sally & Slim came over to watch Survivor – Paulie – we are all caught up. Did you ever watch the other episodes?

  6. Getting two things in the mail from the IRS? If there is no blog it may not be because I have offed myself, I might be in prison.

  7. About to play bike mechanic and replace the tires on road and mountain bikes.

Barb, tomato plants are potted up and will be delivered at lunch.

    • Steve says:

I need to do a little of that as well. I bought new shoes for the road bike, as well as a new chain. Just need the right rainy day to do the work. Or maybe a slow work day and use my wireless out in the mancave for “work”.

  8. barb says:

well – you guys know where there’s a mechanic if something goes wrong.
    Excellent on the volunteer tomatoes.

Mini in 57 seconds, I’m getting better.

Wordle in 3, using David’s start work of LEAST

    • Oh, I am ready to let the man who knows how to fix things do so if I get in over my head.

    • David says:

Nice, regarding LEAST! I’ve been trying Paulie’s approach of using different words, but I have the best luck with I stick with LEAST or STALE. If I get fancy and try something like PRICK then I just end up burning Wordle turns unnecessarily.

      • I have to resist words that are too saddening, such as LOSER, ALONE, HATED, etc.

I usually think of my word the night before, and wind up playing when I wake up between 4:00am-5:00am.

Anyone else solve today’s Wordle with FETUS?

        • David says:

Good thing that MOROSE has six letters! 😉 I realized that part of my problem with Wordle is I start getting too clever for my own good. I almost typed SHIRE today when I was close and decided to use SHINE instead, which was the match. Sometimes Wordle isn’t as erudite as I give it credit for, and so I end up overthinking. Story of my life…¯\_(?)_/¯

          • David says:

The question mark in my previous comment was supposed to be two eyes and a slanted smile, but it didn’t pass muster with Paulie’s server. I rather like the ¯\_(?)_/¯ instead. LOL.

  9. Barb says:

getting a server error on my work computer, but the post above worked fine from my home computer.

  10. Debbie says:

Wordle in 4 starting with AISLE

You know how you do a work project and you send it for review and everyone signs off and it’s done right?!? Yeah, no. Two pages of tweaks on 7.5 hours of video. My pushback is if it isn’t material to the success of the course, it’s not happening. It’s 7.5 hours with thousands of slides, transitions, highlights, etc, there will always be something that could be better, but at some point you have to be done. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Good weekend otherwise, lots of watching horses do horse things and a little actually doing horse things.

Missed my mom a lot yesterday, but Steve and “the kids” made it a good day.

Paul, I’m glad you are reaching out for resources for therapy. You’re smart, attractive and funny as hell – you’ve got a life left to live and doing it healthily is what it’s about.

    • David says:

Debbie, amen on your thoughts! I create video training materials too, and I’ve managed to dismantle what I used to call my “dog whistle” standards that were so high no one else but me could appreciate them, and that absolutely kept me paralyzed on getting anything out the door. “Good enough” is where it’s at.

  11. Weird, my Wordle answer is different from most people’s because the word I got was apparently removed as an answer by the NYT.

  12. Ugh stock market tanking again. Retirement looking a lot less likely…

  13. Delicious lunch with Barb and Allan!

    • Barb says:

bulgogi taco was the best again……. but the fish taco was good too.
thanks for the tomato plants – Sal is going to get 1 or 2 of them.

      • Cool. Thanks for meeting me for lunch. Let me know if you need more plants, I might be able to supply some.

Hit Goodwill on Northside on the way home. Purged some items, got rid of some things that I have had in a box for too long.
