Even though I removed it from my calendar months ago it feels weird to be skipping Busted’s “Bring Your Own Boat” camping weekend at Red Top Mountain this year. I have looked forward to this outing for the past three years and even went as far as to rent the pioneer campground last year when Busted decided to go to Prague for the hash. I am only missing because of the way my life has changed, and that fucking sucks for me.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was DOULA

  1. NYT Mini Crossword in 22 seconds.

Heardle took a few seconds, but then there was immediate recognition.

    • Barb says:

      22 seconds? DAMN…………
53 seconds for me – that’s amazing for me.

      • Luck, made no mistakes.

      • David says:

        You beat me, Barb! 1:10

Heardle: few seconds, and then huge groan
Heardle 60s: 1 second, always surprises me to discover songs I thought were released in the 70s that came out earlier.
        Heardle 70s: Song not available
        Heardle 80s #1s: 1 sec
        Heardle 80s: Fail
        Heardle 90s: 1 sec
Heardle 00s: Knew the song but couldn’t name it or the band.

        • Barb says:

whoooohoooo – I beat David at the Mini!
guess I ought to go buy a lottery ticket too!

Heardle: few seconds as well – but I knew it!
Heardle 70s: Song not available – same
Heardle 80s #1s: 1 sec – and I do not like that song.
Heardle 80s: Fail – what the hell – never heard of it at all.
          Heardle 90s: Fail
          Heardle 00s: Fail

  2. David says:

Dude, you have 20 t0 30 years left, and much of that will he consumed with being elderly. How much of your remaining good years are you going to squander with this pity party? Life is not a straight line. You got zigged, so figure out how to zag. Stewing in your own juices is just corrosive to you and those around you. You have a massive wall up around you that means you’re blocking anything new, and for what? The comfort of nurturing grudges? You think that’s gonna end well?

    • I keep looking for ways to zag, but have had no success this far.

      • David says:

Keep trying, and seriously, dwelling on what happened in the past is completely unproductive. Trust me, I’ve been there and done that, for decades, no less. It catches you in an interminable loop, which I’m sure unintentionally created in your programming code before. I know I have.

  3. Barb says:

ITS GOING TO BE HOT, SUPER HUMID & POTENTIALLY RAINY CAMPING THIS WEEKEND. I have no desire to go. Sure, the lake is there, but think of the mosquito bites, the ant bites, the poison ivy. It will be ok to miss it.

Are you coming out to the walk on Saturday in Decatur?

    • It may be, but that’s to be expected. It will be the same next weekend too, when I go camping.

I don’t think I can make the walk, but will make the beer and pizza.

  4. Steve says:

23 hot miles last night on the CX bike. Maybe a scooter ride later.

Tomorrow, the Games kickoff party, but first a memorial service for one of my Scottish dance teachers. She and her late husband were an odd pair, but got me into this world of madness and I will always be appreciative.
    Good weekend, all.

    -FP

  5. Steve says:

And I have to agree with David, stewing in your own juices is never good. I also know it’s easy for us to say move on, and so hard for you. My first wife had no capacity for forgiveness and it consumed her. Process, forgive, accept responsibility (yes, YOU) forgive yourself, move on

  6. Waiting for Amazon to admit that the poly tunnel won’t be delivered today, as it has yet to be shipped. When I do get the notification I think I will cancel the order.

  7. Jenka says:

Hello from northern NY. The weather is pleasant but the house we’re renting has no AC. 80 degrees is very hot inside. Today we have no real plans, some people are going to the beach. I have work to do so I’m staying home.

  8. Debbie says:

Wordle fail, Mini in 1:41 Not a good day for me.

Early appt. with a chiropractor. They just took x-rays today and I’ll go back next week for a consult and adjustment. They asked me what hurts – everything, everything hurts. Neck, shoulders, mid-back, low back – I’m a jacked up mess from hitting the ground hard one too many times.

Plowing through a bunch of data entry today. Airpods in, audio book going – let’s do this thing.

    Happy Friday!

    • Barb says:

hope the Chiro can help. The table you lie on with the rollers I found very helpful, 15-20 minutes really loosened up my back muscles.

And – on a similar note – my massage therapist has finally fired someone for her office, so she can start making house calls again – we have a lot is September! I’m so excited.

  9. Steve says:

60’s wordle has the same intro as Sweet Melissa by the Alman Bros. At least the first few cords. And i had most if the words of the answer, but no titla or artist.
