Big day of choring ahead of me today.

I solved today’s Wordle on my sixth attempt; my starter today was SPEAR. I have never been as dejected by a Wordle success as I am today. Use my starter to find out why.

  1. NYT Mini Crossword in 43 seconds.

    Heardle fail.

Today’s Washington Post Mini Crossword provided me with an interesting bit of trivia, the founder of Lowe’s was a man named Lucious Lowe. I may be swinging by Lucious’s hardware store today.

    • Barb says:

I could not get the Mini today without some help.
(and – typing issues made it harder when I hit the wrong letter & didn’t relize right away))

took me all 6 on Wordle – had 4 of the 5 in 2, that middle letter could be many words, and the 1 it was I didn’t even realize that is a word

My publisher is amazing, the Excel book is now available in print: https://www.amazon.com/Exploring-Microsoft-Excels-Hidden-Treasures/dp/1803243945/

It’s taken a few months from the time I’ve finished other books for them to hit the stores. I wrapped up this book a few weeks ago. Supply chain be damned!

Wordle fail. 4 correct letters in 4 but I kept choosing the wrong middle letter. I think Heardle may have run its course for me. Mini in 48 seconds.

    • *applause* *applause* *applause*

I’m waning on Heardle as well.

I used a lot of Wordle strategy today trying to suss out the word, almost failing in the process.

      • David says:

        Thanks, Paulie!

I seem to apply a brute force strategy to Wordle, because I just don’t want to think as hard as it wants me to sometimes.

    • Barb says:

Congrats on the book! no hardcover?
(I’m such a basic user of Excel, but really, I’ve never been forced to use all the many, many features)

      • David says:

Thank you, Barb! I haven’t seen a tech book in hard cover in years, apart from text books. I’m honestly surprised it got printed on paper, but some people still like that format!

    • Jenka says:

Congrats! If it’s on Amazon that means you’ve made it! Heh.

    • Bob says:

      Congrats on the book David!
I have a love/hate relationship with Excel. Love all the features I know how to use but hate how frustrated I get making some things work.
I should buy your book. Will you sign it if I do? That would get me some serious nerd cred 🙂

      • Steve says:

Congrats, David. I know enough Excel to be dangerous, so I’m sure your book would be well above my level. I do however know some folks who live and breathe it and will recommend it to them.

      • David says:

Yes, absolutely. Email me at ask@davidringstrom.com and I’ll set it up for you. You are far from alone in your experience with Excel, and I wrote the book to try to help folks turn the tide. In my experience it’s the quirks and nuances that trip everyone up, and so I pointed out as many of those as I could along the way.

  3. Jenka says:

I am Miss Crankypants today, somehow woke up on the wrong side of the bed. At least it’s Friday.

Re: Duolingo, it occurred to me last night that they might have updated just the free app. I assume you had the free app? I pay $80 per year for the extra features. It makes sense that they would make the free app more annoying to force customers to pay for the paid app. Hopefully (for me) this is the case!

    Off to be productive!

    • You assume correctly. It’s an interesting theory, though I believe I have read negative reviews from “Super Duolingo” subscribers?

      • Jenka says:

Yes, they introduced Super Duolingo a few months ago (the update I mentioned earlier) and it’s Super Dumb but doesn’t really affect the learning process.

  4. Home from Waschsalon. Was going to stop at Lucious’s hardware store, but decided that I didn’t want to be bothered. Maybe if I get bored later…

  5. Steve says:

Wordle fail! Seriously? They are on my list…

Debbie rode last night and I tagged along, at least to Bear Creek Farm and walked home. Forgetting I would have creek crossings early on and the pleasure of wet shoes and socks for the final 2 miles. Ugh.

Chores today, a party tomorrow, some scooter time at some point. Maybe a bike ride- easy version.

  6. Jenka says:

Wow, LITRALLY every person on my newsfeed and in my Wordle Friends group failed on Wordle today. This is a first!

    • Barb says:

I got it in 6, only because I tried a letter I wasn’t sure was even a word

    • I got it because I “cheat”? I will guess words that are completely wrong in order to gain information about possible letters to fill my needs. For example:

Say the correct word is LEVER, and I know LE_ER. I will make a guess like PROVE in hopes of seeing that either the P or V are correct.

      • Jenka says:

Is that cheating? I thought that was just a smart way to solve the puzzle. I know some people pride themselves on doing it in “hard mode” but those people care more about being superior than brain agility.

      • Steve says:

        Definitely not cheating. Tactical.

I knew it was going to be a tough one when one friend whiffed it and VBG took 6.

      • It’s not cheating in my eyes, which is why I put it in quotes. However, there are the purists out there that probably frown on my strategy.

Having done many crosswords I knew today’s word, similarly I immediately think of the word CORER thanks to crosswords. That being said, there were many other words that were possibly given what I knew after two guesses.

      • David says:

I use the same strategy sometimes, and I guess I should use it more often. It’s so easy to get sucked into the fail vortex when you get 4 letters right, it’s like surely it’s THIS word that’s in my head, but nope!

  7. Debbie says:

Wordle fail, at least I’m in good company! Mini in :37

Looking forward to a fun weekend girls’ getaway to kick off my birthday celebration. Of course the weather will be stunning this weekend and back to hot when I can ride again. Mother Nature has my number.

Spoke to the Cafe proprietor/city council member today about using the recently vacated fire station as a shared workspace facility. He was all about the idea, so maybe it will get traction.

Congrats David! Nothing better than seeing something you slaved over out in the world!

Hope everyone has good weekend – especially you Jenka so your foul mood goes away!

    • David says:

Thank you, Debbie! You’re right, especially something that I’ve been chasing for many more years than I care to count! What matters is that I got it done though.
