My fancy-pants TextExpander shortcut I use for inserting my Wordle result is failing me daily. When it takes more than one attempt to use the shortcut the time to use it is longer than it’s worth. I’ve gone old school and made six copies of the statement in a document and will manually copy and paste the correct result from here on out.

Now you know how one of the sausages is made.

I solved today’s Wordle in five attempts; my starter today was PARSE

If I had a predefined Wordle list I’d create an Excel spreadsheet where I could create a grid that has all 6 possible outcomes for each day and then I could just grab the whole sentence. I don’t find it onerous to type out that I solved today’s Wordle in 5 starting with GREAT. I should have gone with BLEAK like I wanted to, but the word felt depressing. Anyway, I get it on the document. Sand off those rough edges in life wherever you can.

Firewood provisioning is in place for early Friday evening on my way to Ellijay. Thank you so much, Barb! December lunch is set with Paulie as well. Look at the former lurker being IRL. It’s been a damn journey, that’s for sure.

    • Barb says:

glad I can save you a few bucks- damn firewood is expensive.
And -we have enough for the next 100 years – the fireplace in our house isn’t in a very good spot to actually use it, and it doesn’t take much for an evening with the chimenea or the fire pit.

  2. Tried getting some early morning choring done. Drove all the way to Your Dekalb Farmers Market only to find that they weren’t yet open (at 8:15am). Tried to hit Aldi on the way home, they didn’t open until 9:00am. Thankfully Lidl was open at 8:00am and I was able to get the things I wanted there.

    • Also, was bummed that Lowe’s was sold out of seed garlic. Because I wanted to get collard greens, I figured YDFM would also offer different organic garlic varieties that I could attempt to grow.

We went to Sotto Sotto last night for Date Night (TM) and it was delicious as usual. We were talking about the cabin (obviously, after yesterday’s discussion) and decided to skip the 50th birthday party we have on Dec 3 and go up there instead.

Duolingo isn’t as annoying as I expected so far, despite the infantilization of the update. But I haven’t reached a point where I can’t test out yet, so we’ll see.

Planning my Thanksgiving menu — no kids this year, just Kevin and me. I think all I’m making are mashed potatoes, mac ‘n’ cheese, and green bean casserole. Those are our favorites! Plus a turkey breast and we’ll get a honey-baked ham.

    • Barb says:

Our Thanksgiving orphan bash is getting much bigger than I expected.
I think we have 25 or 26 at this point. People that I expected to say no have said yes. I need to find some more chairs & another table. We will set up in the garage – I don’t think it will be warm enough to eat on the deck, and I think there are too many people to configure a table out there.

We are going to cook 3 turkeys – 1 or 2 fried, and 1 or 2 smoked. Allan gets to decide on that. Everyone is bringing sides – I need to go thru the list to figure out what is missing – for those people that are asking & can’t seem to go thru all the answers on the FB event.

    • My Thanksgiving is completely in the hands of someone else, and I will be glad to eat whatever is served to me.

Went back to Fidelity late yesterday to discuss my retirement plan, I knew it would cost money, but I have no desire to try to figure everything out on my own. Better to pay someone that knows what they are doing, so I can just sit back and hopefully be set when its time to start using that money.

  5. Bob says:

Calm before the storm here at the Knoll house. We are hosting Thanksgiving again and my brother and family are all coming up/down. I think we are going to have 14 for dinner, should be fun.
Going to try something new this year and do the turkey on the rotisserie. First time doing that so fingers crossed 🙂
Worse case we eat a bunch of sides and order a pizza.

    • I have never hosted a Thanksgiving, and at my age and social situation doubt that I ever will. I can also used “malfunctioning plumbing” as a good excuse…

    • Jenka says:

We bought our house in 2015 and hosted Thanksgiving that year as a celebration. We had 11 people staying in the house and upwards of 20 for the dinner itself. I ran the Thanksgiving half marathon in the morning and then cooked the dinner. NEVER AGAIN.

      • Barb says:

damn – all that & with the 1/2 marathon? no thank you…….

      • Bob says:

Wow! You probably needed another week off after everybody left. That sounds crazy!
I’m only going to have an extra 5 people in my house and all we have to cook is Turkey and Mac and Cheese so it’s not too terrible.

      • That’s almost as insane as haring a Black Sheep Hash and then hosting a Super Bowl Party on the same day. And then doing that for a couple of more years! Oh the hubris of youth…

Good morning from Savannah. OTD by 0715 and except for getting F’d by my own map/google reading skills, a pretty straight shot through Macon onto 16.

Been trying to get to this museum for a while now and hoping its as good as expected.

  7. Made a walk up to the post office to mail a letter. How quaint. Tomorrow I might make a similar journey on which I will make cuttings from fig trees.

    • David says:

Is that post office actually functional again? At one point you posted a picture of the mailboxes being taped up. I went by the other week and the parking lot was being paved or something.

Wordle in 4 starting with PIVOT from which I had to pivot.

We’re going to my niece’s house for Thanksgiving. So nice to leave it all on them – payback for all the babysitting I did when they were babies! I’m taking pie and a side, but that’s easy peasy compared to years past.

Opening Hunt is this weekend and the Tally Ho wagons have returned for the first time since COVID hit. It’s a hay wagon drunk fest that sorta follows the action. The hunt patron wanted each wagon to have a radio and someone who could explain what was going on. She was dumbfounded when several of us assured her that they don’t care! They are there for the fresh air and booze.

My friends and I decided years ago that it was MUCH more fun to be in the wagons than riding. I invited Meg and Ella this year which is good since I can’t drink and I’ll have sober people to talk to.

  9. Steve Brady says:

Museum is good. Lots of reading and not too.any aircraft. Was politely asked to leave the inside of a B-17. The rope was down and i could hear someone talking inside. Seems he was the escort for another patron and I could not be unescorted. Still, inside that fuselage, you needed to be shorter than me! I couldnt imagine trying to move about while flying.

    • Steve Brady says:

At Little Duck Diner, per your recommendation David. Report tomorrow.

      • David says:

Nice! I can’t wait to hear what you think.

If you find yourself on foot in downtown Savannah, there’s a “Fancy” Parker’s convenience store that is quite an experience. It’s no Buccee’s, but it’s a fun stop when meandering the squares.
