Welcome to the unintentional “Media Edition” of Inside The Perimeter.

I’ve come to learn that Brendan Fraser has won an Oscar for his performance in the movie “The Whale”. Had he not been a guest on some podcasts to which I listen I’d never known about the movie at all. The fact that I am now considering watching this film is problematic, for it will violate my rule created for Fraser, the “Never watch anything with Brandan Fraser” rule. This rule was created many years ago because I didn’t think Fraser was a good actor, and yet he was cast in nearly virtually everything. The rule was expanded to include Melissa McCarthy, who I don’t find the least bit funny, about a decade ago.

Last night I jumped back into the Ted Lasso bandwagon to ride it to its series finale this year.

Another bandwagon I hopped onto yesterday was something I just discovered yesterday, Alan Alda’s podcast “Clear+Vivid”. Apparently Alda has been doing this podcast since 2018, so I have clearly not done a good job keeping tabs on one of my favorite actors. With over two hundred episodes in the can I have a lot of catching up to do.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was GLARE

Wordle in 4 starting with SATIN.

I’ve always enjoyed Alan Alda. His PBS shows on science were always enjoyable, as he was genuinely inquisitive and interested.

Our local “Johnnie’s Pizza” is closing!! We are a bit confused, as it always seemed to have a decent crowd and they handled the pandemic well. It seems there is a lot of competition in that market, but as we like their choices, we will have to find an alternative.

I watched Milan-Torino yesterday- the oldest race in the world, starting in 1876. Think about that… what were they riding? Isn’t that before penny farthings? Boneshakers, perhaps? 30 minutes steady on my boneshaker last night.

The Hawks event was a blast, although I would’ve gotten a lot more out of it if I knew who the players are and, oh, pretty much anything about the Hawks. HEH. Everyone there was a superfan. My friend was super happy, she got her picture taken with her favorite player. And it had free booze and food!

They’re calling The Whale Brendan Fraser’s “comeback” movie. I wasn’t aware that he went anywhere, but probably young people don’t know who he is.

I shall be waiting until there are a few episodes of Ted Lasso to watch before starting this season.

I think I read something that Brendan for blackballed by Hollywood for something – but – was it him? who knows, I wasn’t paying that close of attention. That’s why we haven’t see him much is quite a few years.

    • David says:

I’m with you, Jenka, I always wait until an entire season has dropped. Not that I binge shows, I just don’t want to be held to a particular schedule when it comes to watching TV. I have enough of that in other places in my life to more than carry me through. In fact, Ted Lasso is a rare exception to my general rule of letting shows age about 10 years, and if they’re still getting buzz, then I get around to watching them.

  3. Barb says:

yesterday was way too busy work wise – and it wasn’t my usual freight – it was my co-worker who is on vacation’s freight. So many issues. I do not miss frustrating days like that. here’s to hoping today has less issues.

Wordle in 5 starting with SALET. It took 3 tries to get the correct 1st letter.

Chiro, breakfast at a new to me place, and grocery shopping. That will keep me out of trouble until noon at least. Looking forward to getting a ride in this afternoon. Hopefully it doesn’t aggravate my knee. It’s the left knee so getting on is the biggest challenge since all my weight is on it and then twisting to swing my right leg over.

I scouted out where I want to use my new flamethrower for weed eradication. Our road frontage past our driveway is an eyesore. I’m trying to figure out a ground cover that will choke out the weeds that can survive in clay and not require watering. Suggestions welcome. We’re going to light up one of our burn piles this evening so my new toy is going to be handy!

    • David says:

Oooh, I have a weed burner too, it’s one of my favorite tools. Although I did get called out for using it in front of a fire marshal once (he was patrolling the Summer Shade festival). “The City of Atlanta is a no burn zone.” Hmmm, good to know.

      • Barb says:

Allan wants a flame thrower – I’ve told him no – I see trouble with that. And – I can see why the CoA has that rule, there’s a whole lot of dumb people in the city. (not you David, but…..)

Wordle in 6 today, AISLE say that I needed a better starting word. I’m here all week folks, be sure to tip the wait staff.

I had a win last night, you can rebook flights on Delta when the fare drops for with no change fee and keep the difference as an e-credit against future flights. This means I have $867 from rebooking my trip to Belize with the kids this summer. I set up a Google Flight Alert to track the fares. It emailed me yesterday morning hand said the fare had dropped to $960 (I paid $1,171 per ticket). My (mis)understanding was you could only rebook once, so I was on the fence. When I got another email last night saying it had dropped to $882 I jumped on it. I’ve since learned that you can rebook more than once, and keep getting credits if the fare drops further, so I’ll keep that flight tracker going. 90 days out is supposed to be the sweet spot for ticket pricing, and right now it’s a little more than 100 days until my trip.

I had a lovely breakfast today at http://www.shopthedaily.com with my friend David. The Daily is a new breakfast/lunch place that faces the Inman Park MARTA Station on Dekalb Avenue. I had a frou-frou Israeli upside down latte that was surprisingly good. I have come a long way from my dark coffee only mandate. I like the place, I’ll definitely be back.

    • David says:

Oh, and I meant to say that airline tickets are like being in a casino. What’s the deal with a flight being $960 in the morning and $882 in the evening of the same day? Timing is everything, I guess, and I’m grateful to know about this technique. I was bummed to find out that apparently 3 years ago Delta put a credit for a free upgrade in my account that I was unaware of and that expired 12/31/2022. Oh well. It was nice of them to do that, but it would have been even nicer for them to have notified me.

    • Bob says:

I never knew this about Delta fares Dave, great hack!

      • David says:

Thanks, Bob! I think it arose during the pandemic and then they kept it going. If you’re traveling with kids, make sure to rebook everyone at the same time instead of individually (select all of the credits together) otherwise you’ll hit a brick wall that mumbles something about not being able to book a flight for an unaccompanied minor with etickets or some nonsense.

  7. Bob says:

I like Brendan Fraser, his silly movies came out when I was of the age to indulge in silly movies. Also from what I hear he is a super nice person too. I’m happy he won the award.

  8. If you are in Atlanta go outside, eat lunch out, but be forewarned that you may not want to return to work.

    • steve says:

I’m slaving away on Excel spreadsheets (You’re welcome, David) and watching the tournament. And looking at the beautiful weather out the window.

  9. Time in the beautiful outdoors curtailed by the asshole ants which bit the hell out of me while I was cleaning a patch of ground in the front.

Hoping that the allergy medication I took kicks in soon.

  10. David says:

Christ, it’s been 50 years now since Dark Side of the Moon was released. That was my first album. I had a friend in 8th grade who didn’t like it and gave it to me. The album absolutely blew my mind.

    • Yep. Last week I listened to a Coverville podcast which did a song by song cover of it, then I listened to the original. Wonderful stuff.

BTW, my first album was Brain Salad Surgery by Emerson Lake & Palmer, or Boston’s debut, for some reason I have now forgotten which I bought first.
