In the coming weeks I want to do a test run, or two, of canning tomatoes as sauce. Obviously these will have to be store-bought tomatoes, but I want to be ready when the time comes for me to can WLF’s… assuming the critters don’t nibble on each and every one.p again this year.
Also, I’m doing a tomato planting experiment this year, I’m calling it “Tucking In”. I had too many tall tomato plants, and an area I smothered with leaves, so I dug a trench into the leaves with my hands, laid the tomato plant on its side, and covered about 3/4ths of the plant, as if I were tucking it in bed. It’s been about two weeks and the plants haven’t died, so we’ll see how this goes.
Wordle: three, my starter was COUPE
Interesting, but not surprising, that after spending a lot of time blowing pollen-laden particles from my roof yesterday, I’m feeling like I am suffering from allergies today.

More attacking the awning gap issue last night. Acetone did nothing to the glue residue, but my idea of pool noodles seemed to work. They didn’t have actual pool noodles at the hardware store, but they did have pipe insulation- same thing.
Walked up to have lunch at Colony Square yesterday as it was a beautiful day. On the way back, a new Chinese place has opened on Crescent and they advertise Hot numbing fish! May be worth a try.

Sometimes miss working in midtown, until I see traffic like I see on Google Maps today.
Urban Hai, which I mistakenly thought was related to Hai in Suburban Plaza, looked interesting.
now that its all over – I can say I spent part of yesterday at Piedmont with Allan – he got his ablation surgery for the Afib. Hopefully it will have worked, and that part of his life of taking meds for it will be over. We will see………
(don’t tell him I told you…. 😉
I did do a little walk around south Buckhead while he was in surgery, had breakfast at R Thomas & then walked down to a Truist bank to get some cash. Its been forever since I’ve been on that part of Peachtree. (in case you are wondering, Modelo is the major sponsor of Cinco de Mayo – as I saw plenty of signs)
BTW Paulie – Upside has already posted my measly reward, and Seated hasn’t, it used to be the other way around. I guess Seated waits until it is actually posted to my credit card – it shows pending
Good luck to Allan, hope it works!
Same.
Interesting about the redemptions. I’ve not sought out Upside nor Seated rewards recently.
Barb – I didn’t realize Allan was going through anything! I hope all goes well. I’ll send out good mojo y’alls’ way!
Afib is a thing that I guess plenty of people have, but recently its been for lack of a better word flaring up more. So, he talked to the electrocardiologist – and decided it was time to do the surgery.
Best of luck to Allan, I have heard good things about ablation surgery.
Quiet night at home last night. Finn goes to him mom’s after school today for a whole week, so we are footloose and fancy free for 7 days.
PSA: do not fly through Newark if you are ever traveling to NYC or having a layover. Did you see that the other day they lost contact with all air traffic for 90 seconds?! Then a bunch of staffers had to take 45 days of trauma leave. And they are already understaffed.
Fortunately, I think my needing to fly to see my dear friends at Office of Employee Benefits in Newark are over!! What a CF up there!!
You were the one I was thinking of, since you’ve flown to that airport a couple of times. Glad you don’t have to do that anymore!
the Newark issues are crazy – let’s just hope it doesn’t overflow to Atlanta (as I fly out LATE tomorrow night – flight leaves ATL at 9:59pm.
Forgot to mention that since I have a free Wednesday night, I, going to Trees Atlanta for a lecture. Thought about cycling there, but with this rain, even if it stops soon, I will most likely drive.
Looking for any group ride in Atlanta always takes you to Trish’s site (saddlebred.com). I wonder when she updated it last?
i think she updates it often – and she’s been unemployed, so I’d think that would have given her even more time to do it.
One of my friends raves about this Sunday morning group ride: https://www.atlantacyclingfestival.com/2025-festival/bike-church-wfrbh I haven’t tried it yet.
I’ve never heard of it! Sounds like fun.
Instead of store-bought, how about local farmers’ markets tomatoes? 🙂
If I can find some, sure. I will most likely buy from Your Dekalb Farmers Market.
Oooh, this is a good idea.
might be a little early in the season for farmers market tomatoes? Maybe?
That’s what I’m thinking.
It is with heavy heart that I have to report my favorite mid ride beer stop is closing 🙁
Jekyll brewing is closing all locations after this weekend. The Marconi location right on the greenway was right at 10 miles away so was a perfect half way stop.
IHMO when they branched out to restaurants I feared this would happen. Their beers are also crazy expensive and some of them are just not good.
I guess now my 20 mile rides will be 25 mile rides since I will have to go to Halcyon up in Cumming 🙂
it is sad – so many breweries have over extended themselves.
I heard about this from ITP-Reader Barb too. Another brewery bites the dust. 🙁
Here is my list, and I think they all closed within the past three years:
DEFUNCT GEORGIA BREWERIES
Orpheus
Second Self
Burnt Hickory
Anderby
Iron Shield
Hippin’ Hops (East Lake)
Kettle Rock
Sabbath
Biggerstaff
Schoolhouse Gymnasium (Emory)
Elsewhere
Eventide
Steady Hand
Best End
Torched Hop
Red Hare
BlueTarp
High Card
Jekyll
This long list is proof that there was too much saturation in the market.
I found a small critter burrowing along the edge of WLF. I may live to regret this, but I startled it instead of killing it, and it got away. Mouse? Rat? Mole? Vole? Not sure, but I will probably find out in a few months when it’s big enough to eat everything in the garden.
Forecast for rain in six of the next seven days is really cutting into my poor training for BRAG.
Out of curiosity I just harvested three heads of garlic. I must say, they look pretty awesome. I will continue to harvest as needed, or until it’s time to pull everything out of the ground.
