If I had thought of this more than three weeks before BRAG, I’d be wearing an Eeyore cycling jersey one day of this year’s ride. Dangen! Perhaps I’ll buy it for myself as a 60th birthday present in July, as an incentive to ride BRAG next year.

The new rechargeable fan I purchased for BRAG arrived last night, and unfortunately I think that it’s bigger and heavier than the one I already own. Of course I’ll be packing the lighter of the two.

Wordle: five, my starter was WATER (hard to believe this has yet to be a solution)

  2. Attempted another batch of rolls this morning. I’ll give myself a B, perhaps B-, since they didn’t rise enough and didn’t brown well. I think the latter is due to a lack of moisture and steam in my oven.

    I’ll try again soon…

  3. I was startled to see a lizard on the inside of my rain barrel. It must have been startled to see me, or something my size, because it jumped into the water. This would have been a good opportunity to see if/how lizards could get out on their own, but I used my big meat claws to fish it out. It played dead on the ground briefly before scampering into the tall grass.

    • Just encountered another(?) lizard which was wondering why I cut back some of the long leaf sorrel that has gone to seed. This is its neighborhood, after all.

Fear not, friend. I merely cut off the seeding stems and tossed them elsewhere in WLF in hopes of creating a wild bed of long leaf sorrel.

Made it to Iowa right on time – landed at 10:50pm (a few minutes early)
There was a Lyft driver nearby – cost was $40 for a 20 minute ride.
    Dang tariffs.

I’m tired this morning – might have to go find a soda for some caffeine (since I don’t drink coffee)

    • Jenka says:

Gee, I can’t imagine why you could possibly be tired, landing at what felt like midnight. I’d be wrecked.

  5. Because we got a mere portion of the rain that was predicted at the end of this week, I’m watering WLF again. The forecast calls for a few days of rain starting tomorrow, but I’ve read that before…

Yes, bananas can be grown in Georgia.
    And fruit, if you’re careful.

Andrew’s YouTube channel has all the details of how/where to order from, planting, care, etc.

    Wordle in 5.

17 miles yesterday. Felt like I hadn’t ridden in almost a week… duh.

Next stop, eye doctor in Decatur. Paulie, message me if you’re available for lunch.

Our financial planner is the son of one of our dearest friends, so he makes house calls. 🙂 He came over for a meeting last night and I made an amazing chicken with rice and leeks and lemon dish. I made way too much so I’ll be having it for lunch today.

Tomorrow is Candler’s graduation and Monday is Emory Commencement. Emory asks all staff not working Commencement to work remotely to cut down on the cars, so I will be happily working in my jammies on Monday!

    • My financial planner comes to my house too. In fact, he lives here! I never got around to hiring someone, and now that I’ve earned $0 for the past four years, I have a lot less money to manage.

Leeks are close to being harvested from WLF. Looking at my leek and potato soup recipe.

      • Barb says:

Our financial planner is whatever person at Fidelity tells me to make an appointment. We do the meetings with Zoom once a year.
So technically, they do come to our house.

        • Jenka says:

And are you on track to retire at 65? We would both really like to retire when Kevin is 65, so our planner is helping us put enough money in the right places.

          • If your planner can predict fifteen years into the future, I think you are (near) fifty, then he/she is a miracle worker.

          • Barb says:

we are all set to retire whenever – Allan says it will be 2030, but I know I won’t be working that long.
With his pension, we have it easier than most people for the planning.
Once we have the new truck paid off (its like having a mortgage) then I can quit.

          • Jenka says:

Paulie, we want to retire when KEVIN is 65, that’s about 8 years away. So yeah, he can tell us where to invest money where it will have the most impact in 8 years.

          • I think only Trump knows what will happen the next four years.

      • Jenka says:

I love a good potato and leek soup! I finished the kielbasa, kale, and barley soup I made a couple of weeks ago, need to make another soup soon.

  9. Meeting Steve for lunch in a bit, then I will go to eye doctor to talk about billing and a free chalazion removal do over.

Stopped at WallyWorld to see if they had any old stock of Classico pasta sauce. No luck.

  10. This eye doctor is about to lose any future business from me. I am being told that I owe an additional $145 for the procedure last week, and, the woman at the front desk is not sure if I will have to pay more to correct that procedure.

    • Was told I owed nothing. I go back Monday, let’s see what happens then!

      • Barb says:

and this is why we never pay anything on the 1st billing when it shows up in the mail.
Insurance can never figure out what is what.
We just got a bill from Piedmont for cardiac morphology.
I’m not sure what test that was, but we will wait & see what the 2nd version of that bill looks like.
