The only notable accomplishment yesterday, other than my bike ride, was making a batch of pickled red onions for the first time. This is the first of the “projects” on my list of things to try.

Bob and/or Sal, while perusing the BRAG Ride Guide yesterday I noticed that Sosebee Cycling Park is on route. Will we be following the BRAG route when we ride on 5/24?

Wordle: four, my starter was STRIP

  1. Healthy transplants are dying in the small pots into which I’ve planted them. Dangen! Worst part, is that I have no idea why.

    • David says:

As noted in the book Treasure Island, “Beware the black spot”, or in your case, black thumb. 😉 Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I’m sure that has to be wildly frustrating.

    Wordle in 3.

As you warned yesterday about the wind, I rode into it to begin my 18 miles. I also had much more heat than you did, riding around 3PM. I was glad to get off the bike.

There’s another season of “Reacher” and we’re trying not to binge it- excellent as always.

Apparently, we were the only house to lose power yesterday. A blown fuse at the street, according to the nice GaPow guy. And he saw no reason for it to have blown. Screwy.

    • Yeah, we are in full-blown “Damn, it’s hot!” mode; funny since less than a week ago it was so chilly.

Good on ya for riding! I was going to go out this morning, but am doing choring instead.

    • Barb says:

Reacher’s newest season I liked – but as I always say, I never read any of the books, so I don’t know if it’s good in comparison.

      • David says:

The TV series is seriously lame in comparison to the books. But I may be biased from having read every book in the series over the decades.

    • Jenka says:

I will have to check Reacher out, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of it, or if you guys have talked about it before, I didn’t pay attention. LOL!

  3. Load of wash cleaned and now hanging outside to dry. Using this summertime heat in May to the fullest.

    • Barb says:

you are doing laundry at home????

      • Some things yes. Yesterday I washed three cycling kits. Today I washed yesterday’s kit, some fast-drying towels, and a couple of technical t-shirts. I’m just reducing the amount of stuff I will bring to the laundromat next week, and getting some manual choring done in the process.

  4. Jenka says:

Last big meeting of the year this morning, then the summer is free and clear! Woo hoo! Today is Emory’s Staff Fest where they give us bbq lunch and have activities, most of which I will skip. Tonight we are going to see the comedian Tom Papa at the Tabernacle. We’ve seen him before, he is very funny. Tomorrow morning is Finn’s last Buddy Baseball game, thank the lord. I wish it would rain.

  5. Prepping the tools necessary to make a marinara with the Roma tomatoes I bought at Your Dekalb Farmers Market the other day. I only bought five pounds, just enough to do a test run since I’ve never made tomato sauce from scratch before.

    • Barb says:

make sure you have some tomato paste – I’ve made it from scratch before, and its been thin & watery – the tomato paste helps thicken

  6. Barb says:

Bob – still thinking about Silk Sheets tomorrow morning?
    I hope not too early………..

    • Steve says:

      Yeah… what she said.

    • Bob says:

      Yes to silk sheets!
How about meet at Cochran Mill park at 10? Will that work?
I have not ridden down there in many years so I don’t know any routes by memory. I have downloaded a 43 mile route to my Garmin that I plan to follow.

      • It’s been about three years since I’ve ridden there, where does the time go? On my last Silk Sheets ride I was discouraged by the number of houses being built along the route I took. I’ll be interested to hear what you all see/think.

Sadly I’ve committed to riding in Tucker, so I can’t join. As I mentioned , I will be at Sosebee on the 24th, however!

      • Steve says:

I don’t know if I’m up for 43, but I can find my own way. Guess I’ll get the road bike off the trainer. Is that wheels up time or meet up time?

      • Barb says:

We should be ok with 10am, I’ll ping you of we are running late.

Last time we rode down there, we just winged it – I think we rode 29 or so – but I think we should be ok with 43, or if not – we can find a short cut back.

Bring a beer or 2 in a cooler for after?

  7. Harrumph! Some asshole critter chewed the two-year old oak tree I’ve been growing in a pot. It now has no leaves, so is bound to die. Fuckers!

    • And given the frequency with which I hear chainsaws and chipper/shredders, future generations are going to need the trees.

      • Actually, it won’t matter. We’ve passed the tipping point where the world can be saved because we have too many people, who are creating and disposing of too much trash.

        • HamWithCam says:

There are near 8 BILLION people in this World.
          They all need:
          – something to eat
          – something to wear
          – some place to sleep
          – and a way to charge their smartphones.

I’m sincerely sorry, but that’s just not going to happen with organic farming and solar/wind clean energy (that sounds good but requires orders of magnitude more energy to create than it ever produces).

          • While I agree, it might be wise if we stop producing so much single-use plastic, which at best spends an eternity in a landfill, and at worse washes into our waterways, seas, and oceans.

I figure I have twenty or so years left at most, so this won’t affect me, but theoretically there will be generations of people living on this planet after I die.

  8. Just discovered the idiot company from which I purchased my big canning pot glued a paper label onto the pot. Trying to get that off now…

    • Realized that this small batch of sauce doesn’t need the big pot. So, it’s in process, and I can can in jars using another pot that I own.

      • And I may have just had failure! I saw people using a towel in the bottom of their canning pots to keep the jars from being in contact with the bottom. However, my towel caused the jars to tip over! Fuck. Me. I don’t know if I will let the final canned jars sit out, or if I will just put them into the refrigerator and use them soon.

      • As I sit here, I think that I will process the jars per the instructions, but refrigerate them afterwards, and use them before any harmful things can grow within them.

  9. Tomorrow is the final weekend of the 2024/2025 Bundesliga season. Thankfully Werder Bremen will finish mid-table, thus avoiding relegation again.

  10. Oh hey, there is a new season of “Welcome to Wrexham” on Hulu. The episodes available are S4E1 and S4E2.
