Well, my day is off to a disappointing start. Today I planned to make a group lunch, this time I planned to make Crockpot Coconut Curry Cashew Chicken. Because the recipe only requires four hours of cooking time I decided to drive everything in raw form to the office, prep my food here, and then cook it the necessary time. Even though I woke up late I was able to rush around the house and get to the office with ample time to execute my plan.
I had three reusable shopping bags — one containing raw vegetables and spices, one containing the crockpot a cutting board and my chef’s knife, and one containing a container of raw chicken and two containers of cooked white rice (that I made after getting home from German class last night). Everything made it to the office as expected. The plan was to wash and chop the potatoes and red peppers, and then chop the onion; once done all of this was going to into the crockpot. I’d then cut the chicken and add it along with all of the spices into the crockpot. Four hours later a delicious lunch would emerge from the crockpot.
In taking the cutting board out of the bag the chef’s knife raised up, and then fell. Fear not I was not injured. However, the knife fell butt-end back into the bag, landing directly on the bottom of the ceramic insert of the crockpot, and cracking it. I checked, the crack went all the way through to the bottom.
In-con-ceivable!
There is no way that I can obtain another crockpot and make this dish by lunch today. So, instead I’ve had to email the seven coworkers who were relying on me to provide lunch and inform them that I cannot today.
Can you tell how pissed off I am right now?
Not only can I not provide lunch, I have to go to a store and buy another crockpot, all because I was too careless when I packed/unpacked my stuff. Even more maddening is that this is the crockpot whose life I prolonged last year by purchasing a replacement handle for its lid!
Perhaps Two Options For Tonight?
I have a ticket to the sold out Beirut concert at The Buckhead Theatre. I purchased my ticket long before finding out that another band I want to see, Eskimeau, is playing The Masquerade tonight. The parking at both venues stinks, so I can’t use this as a measure for which show I should attend. I am leaning toward the latter since I like the band better and Masquerade is closer to home than Buckhead Theatre.
If I had to make a choice in my current state of mind I’d choose neither and go directly home and just stew, but not in the new crockpot that I will possess, because now all of the ingredients for making the Crockpot Coconut Curry Cashew Chicken are here at the office and will remain overnight for an attempt at making it for tomorrow’s lunch.

It’s still way early – can you not run over to the Walmart for one? Or could they bring one in? You’d still have lunch ready by 1pm. But, hey, either way: at least you have the fixins for lunch tomorrow! And it sounds REALLY good (although you never mentioned when you would add the cashews). 😉
I had a productive morning. Had some salmon marinating in a honey glaze last night and baked it up this morning to add it to my salad of greens, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, olives and cheese for lunch.
Last night we pulled out another 1st place win at Joe’s on Juniper and I was ON FIRE, if I do say so myself. Just knew random stuff about Bon Jovi and Muammar Gaddafi (quasi-related even). Heads up that I’m game on for trivia tomorrow but next week (4/14) I’m out. A vendor is taking me to the VIP experience at KURIOS cirque du soleil that night and, um, YES PLEASE. Have never seen a cirque show before so should be fun.
Well $hit, Paulie. You just can’t win. I think Stacy’s idea of a backup crockpot would be your best bet, but since you’ve already said there would be no lunch…

I tried to fix our ongoing plumbing issue last night, but was defeated. After reading up on it this morning, I think I was on the right track attempting to clear the vent pipe, but a metal roof and pollen made it impossible for me to stay on the roof. As Debbie had gone riding, I was home alone and decided not to risk breaking my neck.
A rare opportunity to work from home tomorrow. Paperwork to catch up on, so that will be nice.

Unfortunately 1pm is too late for lunch for this crowd so there was no hope today. Fortunately for me the crockpot shouldn’t be too expensive to replace since I’ll be buying a no-frills version. I considered popping into Goodwill. Damn, I wish that I had a coupon for Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
I’m for trivia tomorrow night as well. Hopefully by then I’ll be in a much better mood, after serving a successful lunch from my new crockpot, and my defunct-LLC tax issues settled.
I’ve not been to a Cirque show in some time. If memory serves my first Cirque show was with ITP-Reader Steve and the Cheese Sisters, who still lived in Atlanta at that time. Wow, that was a long time ago… They are fun, especially your first one.
I understand plumbing is tricky Steve. For some people it takes over a decade to correct! 🙂
Order a new ceramic insert for the crockpot – a whole new crockpot is probably cheaper – but hey – having 2 isn’t a bad idea – you could leave 1 at the office so you don’t have to cart it back & forth.
I have lots & lots of BB&B coupons – I’m sure if you look online you can get 1, or get 1 emailed to you.
Stacy – that’s awesome to go to Cirque for FREE! I want to go, but its a little pricy for the good seats, and I’d like good seats.
Hey Paulie- did you want Allan to look at your bike before STU? Tuesday Sarah is coming over to get her handlebar tape redone, tht could be a bike fixing night. Or – if you are bored & want to try to help with the metal roof – Saturday is the day, bring the bike.

Tuesday is a no-go for me due to German class. Saturday may work. I am signed up for Tony Serrano but the weather forecast is for cold and gusty winds, not exactly what I want for 62 miles of riding. I will let you know on Friday. If I come over on Saturday I’ll be glad t help as best I can.
It’s not easy to get a replacement ceramic insert for an older crockpot, given the changes in capacities and shapes over the years. I will buy a new one, and start looking in Goodwill. If nothing shows up I will donate the remains of mine somewhere…
I forgot about the roofing party. What time might that be happening?
We went to see Cirque with the Cheese Sisters? That’s the problem with going somewhere like that with someone- you would remember the show, but not necessarily the company. Remember anything about the show?
And happy anniversary! As long as you guys always remember yours, I hopefully won’t forget mine. Tomorrow- 10 years!
Here’s all that I remember Steve… we ate at Panita Thai Kitchen in Virginia Highland and the service was so slow that we were concerned that we’d miss the start of the show. I believe the show was in the parking lot of Turner Field, but not recall which iteration of Cirque we saw.
Speaking of Turner Field, I am debating going to Braves games this year in silent protest of their pending move to Cobb County next year.
Of, and if don’t ride on Saturday I will pop into Colony Square for awhile to watch soccer and buy some German books, and then I will make my way to Marietta after swinging by my house to get my bicycle, unless I lock it to the bike rack or shove it into the trunk.
Cold & gusty winds on a roof – that sounds even more fun – but it needs to get done! As for a time frame – late morning start. I think TJ is in for helping. And me of course, as well.
Tonight we are going to a wine tasting in Roswell (the address says Alpharetta, but its on Holcomb Bridge, so I’ll call it Roswell). Allan is working at Cycleworks. Half of my office is out – so we are having a blast here.
If you’re popping around Colony Square this weekend, Paulie, be advised: it’s the Dogwood Festival at Piedmont Park, so traffic’s gonna be a zoo. Yeah….ALREADY. It seems too early too be the Dogwood Festival, doesn’t it?
If it’s nice, I might do a walkabout. The newest Tiny Door opened in Inman Park and I want to go see it.
Regarding the Ted: I have a tradition to make it to one Cubs-Braves game every year with Suzanne (Crip Teaser) and I’ll do it again this year. I think a bigger protest will be not to attend NEXT year….which, honestly? I doubt I will anyway unless they can figure out some reasonable public transportation there.
Thanks for the reminder, Stacy. One saving grace is that I can get my parking validated at Goethe Zentrum so I can park there for free while I am watching soccer or perusing books at their book sale.

I have no recollection. Hell getting old. Of course it was almost 20 years ago.
Suntrust Park is the name – and I think it is funny how many people (not you guys) bitch about the new stadium. There is no parking with out a pre-paid pass at the current stadium, and if you take Marta – you have to take a shuttle – just like you will at the new place. So – please tell me the difference? I don’t go to games now because its a PITA to get there (and, I really don’t like baseball).
I will maybe go to 1 game a thte new place, if someone gives me a free ticket.
Barb, for me it’s that I haven’t heard of what their shuttle service up there will be yet. Like, from what station? Lindbergh? (I think that’s the closest) That’s an awful long shuttle ride if so. Or do people need to transfer to a Cobb County bus somewhere along the way? That would be a nightmare too.
The current shuttle is only a couple of miles’ ride (which, btw, I HATE that the shuttle is from the West End now instead of Five Points) — and even that seems a little long sometimes.
(though for the record? directing the traffic up there works out much better for me and my commutes on game days! so I’m happy about that) 🙂
There are Cobb Transit busses that already connect at Arts Center, but that’s still a long way to shuttle folks. I think taking bikes from Barb and Allan’s would be a much better commute! 🙂
its a year away- I’m sure they are still trying to figure out how all the shuttles, etc. will work. There are some good hills from my house to the Park, but its only bout 5 miles.
I really think they feel most people will drive to the area & then take the shuttles from Cumberland or wherever they set up all the parking lots. Look at the traffic downtown on game days.
Sadly, the new place isn’t set up well for mass transit of any kind. Think how many Marta trains’ full of folks went to every game. Even when you counted the bus traffic from the shuttle, the number of cars were a fraction of what will be added to the new stadium. The Braves said Cobb was where their fan base was, but I can’t imagine they have predominantly more than Gwinnette or Rockdale or Douglas. I’m sure it’s where they found the land and struck a deal.

It just sort of really makes me sad. I think of little kids, perhaps those who parents don’t have the means to have cars, who won’t make it to games now (because, yes, there are still affordable nose-bleed seats…which I prefer honestly) only because they won’t have a way to get there.
I’m sure that’s not a big deal to the organization (those aren’t the ones they’re making money off of anyway). And I know there are cities where stadiums mostly are only for drivers — Milwaukee’s Miller Park is a prime example, but then they have always been on the outskirts like that. It just seems a shame to me this is changing.
But, like Barb says, who knows. Maybe there will be some transit options opening up. I’m sure they’ll do a study as to whether it’s even worth it. Just like in refusing MARTA, they probably want the “undesirables” to stay away and this is a way of doing that.
I don’t want you all to think I really care about baseball, because I don’t.
But how many people took Marta, because they felt they “had” to, when going downtown, because there was no parking? That is/was one of the reasons I never go to games (besides the fact that I don’t like baseball). I hated the extra time it took to take Marta to a game. I’d rather walk a little way than deal with taking buses & shuttles. I’m hoping they build a parking structure or 2 or something like that to accommodate all the cars.
Barb, I’m assuming most did because they felt like they had to. Because, really, for a family to take MARTA too? At $5 round trip per person? It’s CHEAPER to drive! Plus the tailgate in the parking lot is a blast. I just think it’s nice to have an option — any option — other than needing to have a car.
And hahahaha, yeah. This makes me look like I really care too. Not so much, if I only go to one game a year. 🙂
Think about how big that parking structure would have to be… all the lot space at Turner couldn’t accommodate all the cars. I think some space at Lockheed might come in handy. I think it’s going to be a major cluster.
That’s why I’m thinking more than 1 structure right there near the stadium.
And – I think plenty of the businesses nearby – they might run shuttles from their bars/restaurants. There really is a lot of parking space around Cumberland too – if they use it right.
I can’t wait to see how it all works out – and just like Stacy – I’m excited for all the non game days – all the new roads & improvements – it is going to make a huge difference.
