Hello heat, I was not expecting to see you for another week. I don’t think I will be spending much time outside today. One of the indoor chores I will be doing today is registering for the NC Mountain Ride, which means that I am going to have to find more time for riding again.
Last night I had WLF potatoes and a WLF jalapeño as part of my dinner. The movie I watched for Monday Night Dinner and a Movie was Saving Mr. Banks.
Wordle: four, my starter was SCAPE
Wordle in 5.
Miami trip rescheduled for next week as the contractor pulled the wrong type of fiber. Oops. I keep saying I don’t want any project delays because of network, but this one they can’t blame on us. It won’t be a delay, just takes up some of our spare time.
Otherwise a fairly quiet day. Got a sort of run in about 7 last night. Nice and toasty even then.

Allan decided in light of current events – to have the people in the Hyox hyperbaric chamber watch the movie Argo yesterday. A couple people remembered it, and thought it was a great idea, and I think most everyone enjoyed it.
Out sweating in WLF, in lieu of cycling. I’m debating on whether or not to ride tonight, given the predicted temperatures.
“Back in the day” I remember doing training rides in this sort of heat. Of course, I was fit AF and 30+ years younger!! If you go out, don’t be afraid to call it early. Take your time and hydrate!
I’m leaning toward staying home, because let’s be honest, I’m good at not riding.
Oh, does anyone have a vacuum, the push type, they love? I’ve not owned one in many years, and the time has come to buy another since my back doesn’t like bending over to use the shop vac for long periods of time. FWIW- This vacuum may get quickly destroyed by the degradation of my sixty year old carpet in the basement.
We replaced ours in the last year, but I couldn’t tell you what I bought, only that it works and that I haven’t used it enough!
ours is a Shark – it works well- doesn’t weight much. Allan uses some of the attachments – as he’s much better at truly cleaning – I do the easy 80% job. Got it at Home Depot or somewhere like that one day out shopping.
Thanks
In this heat, once I get to the office I do not leave it until close of business. Fortunately I made a big pot of soup on Sunday so I have lunches for days. Italian sausage, kale, and barley in a creamy broth. Yum.
Sushi for dinner at our usual Monday place. Sushi was a very welcome change after two weeks of schnitzel. 🙂
For me it’s schnitzel over sushi ten out of ten days. 🙂
More sushi for us!!
I tried the schnitzel and German potato salad at one of the food trucks at the rally. My mom used to make a warm vinegar based German potato salad- this was not it, not bad, just different. The Schnitzel was OK, but not as good as mine.
I used to make schnitzel all the time, I have no idea why I stopped. I have a great story about how one time on my late 20s I moved to a new apartment and didn’t have all my kitchen utensils. I went to make schnitzel but I had nothing to pound it with so I used a full bottle of seltzer. It worked just fine!
I was fully expecting that story to go into “and the seltzer bottle cracked, spraying seltzer all over the kitchen.”
Well, I was very worried about opening the bottle after that so I set it on the counter for a couple of days before attempting to open it very gingerly.
You can have all my allotted sushi, and I’ll even throw in all of my life’s allowance of oysters! 😀
If I had to choose between schnitzel and sushi forever I would choose schnitzel, but it was nice to have a light meal. Also, we took a chance and ordered a couple rolls for Finn and he ate them!
what does Finn usually eat when you go to out for sushi?
We had fun at revolving sushi – Finn would probably like watching it, and of course ordering from the ipad menu & having the little hello kitty tram delivers it to your table.
It’s also a Thai place so he gets fried rice with shrimp. But we almost never have him on Mondays so he doesn’t usually come with us for sushi. However, in the summer the custody schedule switches to week on, week off.
For any of you “Welcome to Wrexham” fans out there, this is not a spoiler, but I just saw that Wrexham transferred “Super” Paul Mullin, the player who helped lead Wrexham up the leagues, to Wigan for next season.
BOOOOO! He was the best player on the team!
Yep. Unfortunately sport is “what have you done for me lately” cutthroat.
BUSY MORNING –
Went to a wine tasting at the Smyrna village – I think its called The Vineyard – with Annette for their monthly wine club wine tasting. They pick 8 wines to taste – the members (who pay a monthly fee) then decided on 4 bottles to take home from that group. Since Mark was out of town, I got to be the +1. None of the wines were that great – but they are all in the $20-$30 range.
I need to get packed – need to leave for the airport by 8am tomorrow.
Safe travels and have much fun!
On YouTube I just watched a short documentary from 2018 about the life of the Scottish cyclist Graeme Obree called “Obree”. While not a household name now, Obree was an innovative cyclist and bike designer in the 1990s, winning multiple track world championships as well as twice setting the hour record, before the UCI banned his bicycle and riding style.
There’s a whole bio-pic where the UCI is not in a very favorable light- appropriately so.
Interesting. Were you familiar with this story?
