As we hurtle toward the end of August and look back to my growing season, I have to consider it to be a failure.

I didn’t grow enough cucumbers or jalapeños to do the fermentation experiments I envisioned. I didn’t grow enough herbs or vegetables to use the dehydrator that I’ve purchased. And my corn pollination was so poor that I neither had a single ear to eat, nor enough to turn into cornmeal. I had mixed success with bell peppers but had a handful rot on the vines, and suffered the critter damage that I mentioned on Monday (the same could be said for tomatoes). Okra production was okay, though there were never enough pods ready at the same time to do more than cut them up and add them to recipes.

For some crops I have to blame the farmer; I had a sufficient quantity of yellow squash and eggplant, but failed to do anything with most of these before they rotted in the refrigerator.

    Wordle in 4.

Dragged my butt out on the bike for 17 last night. I could see thunderheads in the distance and know the city got drenched, but we seemed to miss it all. There has been some rain in the afternoon.

Our division finally admitted they were giving out the WFH option here at the end of the month just because they can as the 4 days in the office starts after Labor Day. We still have stuff to do on site, so we are going in as needed. I will not be going in 4 days a week!

Your focus on your garden has been commendable. You have a less than optimal spot and an abundance of obstacles, yet have persisted. I’m sure it has been incredibly frustrating to see your efforts be swallowed by the critters. Well done.

I tried to grow corn a couple years back in the day & it never did well. The pollination seems to be very important.
I have not even gotten my money’s worth out of the tomato plants – critters I guess have stolen most of them.
The zucchini seeds I planted grew, flowered, but not 1 zucchini – I figure that is a pollination thing too? and zero green beans – Sal’s seeds she gave me must have been duds.

Went to dinner with Kevin last night over in Sandy Springs (near your old office Paulie)
A place called Culinary Dropout. Interesting menu – it was ok, but a little on the pricier side. Good to catch up with him.

Woke up a little after 4am, couldn’t get back to sleep until about 6am, so now I’m tired today. I thin k I’ll be yawning all day.

I mean, the only good thing to do with eggplant is to let it rot in the fridge and then compost it, so in that you were right. Honestly being able to make recipes and meals with what you grew is very successful, you would have been buying produce from Mexico otherwise.

It’s August in Atlanta, of course it rained.

I made Italian sausages and roasted veggies last night, the Sox were off but we watched the Braves. The Braves have now won 10 out of the last 12 and things are looking up!

  5. Trying hard not to let the small chip and grazing on the M6’s windshield thanks to the rocks kicked up on I-20 west ruin my day.
