While being lazy on Friday, July 11, I realized that on July 11, 2022 I drove my bike up to Blue Ridge and rode a tough 35-mile ride up there. I wish that I currently weighed what I weighed in 2022.

On Saturday I drove to Fayetteville to try a new-to-me brewery, Awkward Brewing. While sitting there talking about beer, I learned that Southern Brewing in Athens closed last year. Here is my updated list of Georgia brewery closures in the past three or so years:
Orpheus
Second Self
Burnt Hickory
Anderby
IronShield
Hippin’ Hops (East Lake)
Kettle Rock
Sabbath
Biggerstaff
Schoolhouse Gymnasium (Emory)
Elsewhere
Eventide
Steady Hand
Best End
Torched Hop
Red Hare
BlueTarp
High Card
Jekyll
Monkey Wrench
Hixtown
Southern

Sunday was a wash since I enjoyed Awkard Brewing a little too much, and I felt like ass most of the day. I did make a pasta dinner in which I used some WLF vegetables, as well as a jar of tomato sauce that I made a few months ago.

  1. Happy Bastille Day to anyone who celebrates. šŸ˜€

Also, last night I started watching the movie ā€Urban Farmersā€, a documentary primarily focused on the rarity that is farming in New York’s five boroughs.

    Wordle in 6!

You were in Fayetteville and didn’t call? That’s not too far away and we were just down the road having an early dinner at Mellow Mushroom.

Saturday, I successfully diagnosed the power issue with the trailer- the generators were not working as expected. When I plugged back into “shore power” everything was fine. Debbie has wanted another generator with an electric, instead of pull start and we need something that can run the house in a pinch.. so.

After the above mentioned dinner, I rode 18 in the fading evening heat. It was still plenty hot.

Sunday, I made omelets and home fries once Debbie returned from her ride. A little puttering in the afternoon, but not much all day. It was lovely.

    Hi from Boston.
Saturday we left Boothbay Harbor, it was a lovely area.
We hadn’t had a clam chowder yet, so stopped at this little tiny place in Portland area called Harraseeket Lunch & Lobster.
Long enough drive to a Danvers hotel. Maya wanted to go to Salem – hotels there were way, way too much. Salem was interesting, learned some interesting history.

Sunday we packed up & headed to Boston. Hotel let us check 8n early, that was awesome.
Decided to do the Hop on, hop off trolley tour bus, to see more of the city. Good guides, good stories, I think it was worth it.

Today we will walk some of the Freedom Trail, and head to the airport mid afternoon.

  4. I keep hoping that Mother Nature will bless Wee Little Farm with a good watering soon, so I don’t have to spend so much on irrigation. I’m capturing over a gallon of water every day from my AC, but that’s hardly enough to water the entire farm. And since I can’t convince myself to get back on the bike and ride, it can rain all it wants.

And someone on my gravel FB group was giving away a recumbent bike!! I was a few minutes too late. F. I’ve always wanted one, but my chiro has gotten my back ino order, so there is a lot less pain as there used to be. Still…

TdF coverage started early- normally, Monday would be a rest day, but since it’s Bastille Day, the UCI let them race- 10 days straight in a grand tour had to have an exception.

  6. I just did something I rarely do, ordered clothing from Amazon. I usually want to try on my clothes, especially shorts (which is what I ordered) but the convenience of having it delivered Wednesday with my other items was too tempting. I hope to wear these shorts on Saturday, but you will have to wait a couple of days to get the details on that…

Quiet weekend. Saturday the big activity was making a Costco run. Costco on a Saturday is fucking crowded. Like Ikea was when it first opened (maybe still, I wouldn’t know). Like YDFM on a weekend. Ugh. We rewarded ourselves with lunch at the General Muir afterwards.

Sunday I spent the afternoon in the kitchen. Paulie, I made zucchini bread! And it was delicious! Finn devoured two slices and would’ve eaten more if I’d let him. Then I made a meatloaf, in which I put onions, bacon, and some leftover shredded zucchini that I hadn’t used. Baked the meatloaf, cut off a slice and fried it briefly on both sides to crisp it up, and served it to Finn with a mushroom sauce and some roasted Brussels sprouts. Kid doesn’t know how lucky he has it! LOL!

  8. Jenka says:

Also, with my boss away I am working from home today with an iced coffee at the dining room table in my jammies. Finn doesn’t have camp this week but one of his teachers at school is going to take him out to do things every day. He will be here in a few minutes and the sound of the iPad playing Sonic for the 18,000th time will be silenced!

  9. Steve says:

Just caught a full moon on the TdF coverage! Clearly, his best side.

  10. Steve says:

    TdF finish!! Wow!

    • Agreed. Normally I turn the television off immediately after they’ve crossed the finish line, but if Peacock shows the podiums, without making me sit through ten minutes of ads, I will watch that today.

      • If I were a world class cyclist these days I’d be bummed that there were half as many podium women, and I didn’t get to kiss them on the cheeks, as the riders did long ago. Heheh

  11. I must officially be entering old age, Amazon recommended a walker to me…

    • Steve says:

Now THAT’S funny. I’ve never gotten that.

    • Jenka says:

I am just waiting for my AARP flyer in the mail. Doesn’t that usually come when you turn 50? Although Kevin handles the mail, if it did come he’d just throw it out.

      YIKES!!!!

Barb, good luck getting back to Atlanta today. I’m hoping that the forecasted thunderstorms in Denver don’t wreak havoc with getting back to ATL.

I’ve been out here just shy of a week, but it feels like I’ve been out here for a month. The level of bike infrastructure in Denver and also out along I-70 and in the ski towns is gobsmacking. My whirlwind tour included spending a night at the Great Sand Dune lodge (the accommodations are just so so, but the view and row of highly active hummingbird feeders more than makes up for it). We spent a night in Snowmass Village, and got the vibe of Aspen, way, way too hoity-toity for me. We had a lovely afternoon in Breckenridge, which is far more my speed, including some e-biking. Back to Denver last night to slump in the hotel. I had a work thing to do this morning, which is now done, and next it’s time to drop off the rental car and then cross my fingers and toes that I’ll get home without issue tonight.

  12. Barb says:

We just walked the Freedom Trail & more, watch says 6.47, but I’d guess it wasn’t really that much.

    • Jenka says:

You taking the T to the airport? When the blue line dumps you out at the airport station you have to take a bus the rest of the way. Make sure the bus specifically says it’s going to your terminal. Terminals A, B, C, and D, some buses only do A and B, others only do C and D. Ask me how I know…

      • Barb says:

We had the rental. So fun traffic to get there.
But we made it with plenty of time to spare.
