A Case Of Mistaken Identity

Stomp The Grape, Ascend Rocky Mountain
Last night I joined a small group for drinks and food after work.

Our first stop was The Grape (they have no website?), the new one across the street from the movie theaters in Atlantic Station. Back in the day (when I had the skills necessary to get women to go out on dates with me) I used to go to The Grape up in Vinings (OTP? Paulie? Yes, I was really trying to get “some” back then… it didn’t work). Meet the new Grape, same as the old Grape. The place was filled with whatever today’s classification for Yuppie is, they still have a menu which categorizes wine by number, the appetizers are still decent, and the $47 bottle of Syrah I ordered still tasted better than the $19 bottle of Syrah ordered by someone else at the table.

Once our veneer of class wore off we headed to an establishment in which we could be ourselves and hold our pint glasses without sticking out our pinkies, Rocky Mountain Pizza. At Rocky Mountain Pizza I dined on two glasses of Anchor Steam and many delicious hot wings from the pile of fifty that we ordered for the table. I believe the next time I need a wing fix I’ll be heading over to Rocky Mountain Pizza. At Rocky Mountain I saw my friend Crissie leaving the bar and when I said hello she looked at me as if she had never seen me before. After a few seconds of processing, she recognized me. It was then I realized that she has never seen the bearded Paulie, and was thus appropriately confused by this strange guy saying hello. 🙂

To Show Or Not To Show, Yet Another Question
I am contemplating buying a ticket to the Minus 5 show at Smith’s Olde Bar on March 31st. While I would really like to see the show, as you can see from my calendar (try looking at COMBO #1, I dare you) I haev also committed to doing a fifty-mile ride in North Georgia the next day.

I faced this same decision last year, choosing to skip the And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead show and it snowed on us during the bike ride.

Do I dare tempt the Weather Gods again this year?

I Think JFK Has Gone AWOL
I haven’t seen my little feral friend JFK in a few weeks.

Given the fact that I have provided him food for the last two years I find it hard to believe that he decided that he wasn’t happy hanging out in my backyard. I can only come to the conclusion that he has been adopted by someone else in the neighborhood, or has met his maker.

In what might seem as unusual emotion for me to emote, I really miss the little guy.

I Guess There Is Still Value In Aluminum?
The person who raided my overstuffed recycling bin (believe it or not my third such bin since my Super Bowl party) must have felt like a kid on Christmas. When I arrived home the other day I noticed that the recycling team had not come to empty my bin, but rather someone had come and liberated all of the aluminum cans. Bully for them I say!

Big Birthday Shout Out!
Today is my mom’s birthday!

I called her this morning to wish her a Happy Birthday and she proceeded to confuse me with my brother. I had a feeling that this was going to happen since my brother is usually the “morning calling son” and I am usually the “evening calling son.” This was confirmed when she told me to say hello to my brother’s wife. I had a good chuckle out of the mishap.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – I am not sure. I am more than a bit disgusted, but perhaps things will get better as the day goes on.
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Belle & Sebastian — “Another Sunny Day”
Website Of The Day – I’ll be spending some time this weekend reading the American Counces on Exercise‘s website.

If you ever want a quick glance of the sites I’ve picked for my Websites Of The Day, you can check them out on del.icio.us, my user name is InsideThePerimeter (go figure), and they are all tagged as “blogged.”

Exercise (b)Log – nothing, I was too busy living the drinking life.

Cheers!

Sorry to post something off the topic, but I saw your post on atlmetblog about Tijuana Garage and wanted to let you know I went there last night on the info from one of the comments made. Guess what, it is nothing like the same place with a different name. It is now a tapas place. So please don’t go thinking you’re going to get a nice heaping bowl of Guac, or a grape crush margarita, or some tofu tacos. You won’t. Just thought I’d warn you. Wouldn’t want you to get all worked up for something and get nothing. On the up side, it looks much nicer in there, and would be a great tapas place if you were in the mood.

Thanks Gladhanding that’s really good to know. I normally never feel like I am getting enough to eat at a tapas place, but now that I am making an effort to drop a few pounds it is the the type of place I should eat at when I eat out.
