[UPDATE @1:05pm – No comments? Has anyone seen this today?]

Not all of these will be covered today…

Colorado Beer, Oh Boy! (No Music For Me!)
My friend Jill returned from Colorado with a car stocked with quality beers from the state. She had the fantastic idea to invite a group of us over to have a night of Colorado beer tasting. I had the bad idea to have many twelve-ounce tastes.

I wound up missing both shows I mentioned on Friday (The Long Winters, Magnolia Electric Co.). If anyone out there went to either of these shows I’d like to know what I missed.

Hello Old Age My New Foe
On Friday before heading to Jill’s I stopped in to Ella Guru, one of the better used CD stores in Atlanta. While there I picked up Atlanta-band Snowden‘s “Anti-Anti”, a promo release of Yo La Tengo‘s “I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Kick Your Ass”, and Muse‘s “Black Holes And Revelations”. Normally I don’t trust my memory so I drag my iPod in with me everytime I go into a CD store. Last night when I realized that I already owned the Muse CD, I wish I had done so on Friday.

Next stop, Senility Island.

Piedmont Park Wedding #2 — Complete!
This weekend my friends Laura and Bob tied the knot at the Park Tavern. Because the reception was also at Park Tavern I hoped that I would be able to drink some of their microbrew at the reception. Unfortunately, this was not the case — however a really decent red wine was provided so I made sure the get my fill of that instead.

Post-wedding many of us headed over to The Highlander (sound familiar?) to meet up with the end of Saturday’s Atlanta hash.

Following the hash ending I headed over to a party to help celebrate the impending 40th birthday of my friend Randy. Welcome to old age buddy.

You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown
Lately I’ve been compared to Charlie Brown. Fuck that! I am much more like Eeyore thankyouverymuch. Charlie Brown is a simpleton bufoon who manages to bungle even the simplest tasks; Eeyore is an intelligent donkey who is depressed, yet thoroughly overjoyed when people remember his birthday. Get it right…

About fifteen years or so ago there was a comedian who had a bit in which his girlfriend had just broken up with him. When he asked her why, her reply was that she felt that he lacked confidence. “Oh, and this is really going to help that!” he retorted.

I have said it before and I will reiterate, confidence is like work experience — when you have none no one wants you, but you have to have someone want you in order to gain it. Funny how that works, no?

I think you are #1…

You're #1

I’m Much More Certain About This…
My East Atlanta Deadbeat Dads are most certainly going to lose their first game. I have a player in tonight’s Monday Night Football game (Alge Crumpler) but I am soooo far behind (by 39 points by my count) that I think that it’s a moot point. One of the reasons I’ve disliked playing fantasy sports in the past occurred this weekend. My starting QB (Eli Manning) was playing against my starting Defense (Seattle). It’s such a quandary to root for one against the other.

As it turns out it really didn’t matter. I found out about fifteen minutes into Sunday’s second tier of games that another one of my starting players (Donte Stallworth) was scratched from the Eagles’ game. He was listed as “probable” up until game time. Arrgh!

Maybe I should try and acquire the Burger King, he seems to play really well in those commercials…

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – pissed off
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Arcade Fire — “Rebellion (Lies)”
Website Of The Day – Last week I was turned on to AccuRadio. I played around with it this weekend, and it seems pretty neat. Be forewarned that there is no Mac love yet… 🙁
Exercise (b)Log – none
Monday Morning Weigh-In – 203 lbs (Somehow I managed to lose last Monday’s weigh-in of 202 lbs. That means that this week I gained a pound. Um, that’s going in the wrong direction…)

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

I read your blog but became very frightened of your picture, seeming telling the world to f – off. Then I spent a good chunk of the morning reading about Charlie Brown on Wikipedia.

Good grief, Chuck. Drop the Eeyore and stick with CB.Has a lot more going for him then a chronically disappointed donkey. Charlie Brown has always possessed a je ne sais quoi quality. Probably because he has depth. And class. And likes baseball, red-heads, and beagles. And one day, he is going to kick that motherfcking football out from under the tilted snotty nose of Lucy van Pelt. Just you wait and see.

I hesitated posting the picture, but it really reflected my mood this yesterday and morning. Plus, turning it into a B&W almost gave it an artistic quality.

I’d rather be neither Charlie Brown nor Eeyore.

hmmm – wedding was fun, jager bombs are bad (and I didn’t even drink one, but Allan did, and that is why we never made it to the b-day party.) Or it could have been all the wine at the wedding, then switching to beer at the Highlander….. neither of us needed to be driving.

I won’t even comment on Charlie Brown vs. Eeyore. I agree, let’s pick a new cartoon character.

My question for Paulie – what about Amazing Race last night? Doesn’t Phil have the best job in the world?

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

No one who saw you and Allan at the Highlander was surprised that you didn’t make it to the birthday party. 🙂

Okay, I’ll pick Quagmire as my new cartoon character.

Now I must admit something I was hoping to avoid. I didn’t get to see Amazing Race last night because the weather blocked my satellite signal. 🙁 I was hoping to catch it on CBS’ Innertube today, but they don’t show the entire episode, and they use Real Player (yuck!) to show clips. I will have to read the synopsis tonight.

Keep the picture it’s cool in B&W, maybe photoshop in a different background… like an urban riot. The chicks will dig it because, hey, they all like a bad boy right?

Only problem is that image will disolve when you tell them that you are:

A: Gainfully employed, in tech no less
B: Tell them you own property and drive a Honda
    C: No tats

Ah well, some of them love the geeks too……… 😉

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

They may love geeks, but they don’t love *this* geek. Maybe I am no longer geeky enough for those who fall for geeks?

  7. Amity says:

No love from me. I don’t even get credit for turning you on.

  8. Smoove D says:

Thanks for the picture. I walked right by you on Flat Shoals before the Dip N Steam show. I thought it was you, but I was hungover and it didn’t process fast enough. Now I know it was.

In other news, is your friend Jill single? I realize you’re not running a dating service here, but a woman who brings back beer from Colorado and shares it with friends is certainly one I would like to meet.

  9. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

@Amity – My apologies for not giving you credit.

@Smoove D – Sorry to tell you that Jill is taken. I completely agree that anyone who brings back the sweet nectar from Colorado to share with friends is a keeper.
