HELL! YEAH!

It should come as no surprise that I am a little late with the blog this morning…

One of the following two statements is true
1) This morning I stopped and bought a cup of coffee from the lovely Ellen
2) The Florida Gators are the BCS National Champions!

IT’S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!!!
IT’S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!!!

In January of 1997 I sat at home alone and watched my Gators beat FSU 52-20 to become National Champions. Last night I sat home alone and watch them destroy the almighty Ohio State 41-14.

When I arrived home from my first Composition photography class the score was 7-0 for Ohio State. I did not give up, and neither did my beloved Gators. The only downside to my evening was that I didn’t get to see the game in HD because it was on Fox and my off-air signal on Fox is iffy at best.

I thought with my loss in my office pool for the college bowl season, the car needing $550 in repairs, and the Jets loss to the Hateriots on Sunday I thought that 2007 was going to be yet another one of “those” years. I might have to reassess my theory.

Dewey Beats Truman? Nope! Buckeyes Beat Gators? Nope!

That is all for today. I need to get to work.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – hoarse, now well rested, happy as a clam
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Lily Allen — “LDN”
Website Of The DayGo Gator Nation, mostly because I saw a commercial for them during last night’s game.
Training Target – who gives a rat’s ass!
Exercise (b)Log – I sure got a lot of exercise jumoing around with glee last night. If only I had not had six beers. Aw fuck that, Florida won the National Championship!!!

January Goals
1) Lose two pounds. (starting weight 205 lbs)
2) Run no fewer than fifty miles.
3) Do twenty push-ups and fifty sit-ups at least three times a week.
4) See Manchester Orchestra in concert. [FAILED]
5) Read two books.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

boise state woulda blow you guys outta the water

    damn gators

p.s. Illinois will rise again … look for us in 2017. You heard it here first.

  3. Debbie says:

Congrats! Even a Georgia grad has to acknowledge what an amazing game the Gators played.

I spent some of my formative years in Gainsville (2-5) while my Dad got his PhD… but grew up in Cincy, so was a little torn last night as to who to root for. I’m going to call my Dad and ask “so, how bout them Gators?” Given his level of interest (and mine) in college football, I’m guessing the reply will be “huh? what?” Given that my Alma Mater, Miami of Oh, had a 2-10 season last year… that level is understandable. 😉

Damn! I just found out this morning that I finished in second place by one point in my office College Bowl pool, and I had the other guy beaten in both tie breakers as well.

@All non-Gators offering congrats: Thank you. For those who have degrees from Miami, FSU, and non-Florida SEC schools I know that it is difficult to pull for Florida.

@Gentri: Sounds like the family should have never left Hogtown (aka Gainesville).

  6. Steve says:

I must say I thought (like everyone else) after the first 16 seconds of the game, it was going to be a long night. Little did I know for whom the long night was just beginning. While the Bucks didn’t have their A game, the Gators certainly had theirs and a couple of other teams’ as well. Well done.

My stuffed gators were beaten, sat on, and hidden away by the Buckeyes in our group of viewers last night but they all made it safely home with me to celebrate! WAY TO GO GATORS!! Seriously, having Ohio State fans to raz while watching was like icing on the cake.

For all the fools who call me “not a real Gator fan,” I just need to point out that although I’m a Badger, Florida’s been my “southern team” since I moved here nearly 10 years ago now — if I could root faithfully through their crap seasons, I should be able to claim fandom now too!

But…Gainesville is called Hogtown? Why on earth is this?

  8. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    according to Wikipedia

Gainesville is informally called “Hogtown” by many current and former residents, after Hogtown Creek, which runs through the city and was the original name of a town nearby, which was eventually incorporated into the growing city.

  9. Hope you reach your goals.

FYI-rats LUV carnations–a pal worked for a flower shop and the rats ALWAYS went for the carnations (even the old wilted ones).
I agree–ginger bread mix makes for an AWFUL gift–perfect for regifting!!! (Oh–Smoove D already said that.) I would have liked to try the thanksgiving soda!
It wasn’t until my junior year in college that I learned my school even HAD a football team—I’m not a sporting fan (unless it’s hockey), plus my school had a pretty crappy football team that wasn’t (and isn’t) in any of the big school’s AAA or ACA or whatever sports classification universities get. However, congratulations and, what the hell, “Go Gators!” (oh—lookie there—you already thanked the non-“gator” fans for saying ‘go gators.” How ‘bout a thank you for the non-FOOTBALL fans?!?!

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

@Halfrida: Thank You. btw- the Thanksgiving sodas were awful, especially the Brussels sprout flavored one.

  12. Sigfrida says:

    Mumm…Brussel sprout soda
Mumm…donuts (now where were all these FREE donuts and what time do they throw them out??)

  13. Susan says:

Congratulations! I’m not a Gator fan, but I’m just really glad to see Ohio get trampled on like that!

  14. Stacey says:

I may not be a fan of Florida, but DAMN I hate OSU!

  15. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

You hate The OSU? Does the hubby know?
